I actually would have loved to have seen a female reporter come in to take Patty Glenn's place after Season 4 and have her become George's love interest. Even past Season 5, I think a female reporter would work. She could be Nellie Bly-esque, covering the various investigations of Station House No. 4, allowing her plenty of screen time. Her love of sleuthing and writing would make her a perfect match for George. I've only just begun to meet Emily and so far I have no reason to dislike her, but I always did think that a second female coroner was a little lazy on the part of the writers.

A female reporter is a great idea! Too bad it couldn't be Ruby. Alternately, a new character could become George's new squeeze. The George/Emily ship arc doesn't really work for me. I've been feeling like it's a copycat setup, or in your words, kinda lazy.

I definitely imagined someone other than Ruby in the role. She was a little too "jet setting" for George, IMO.

That's so nice that you are thinking of Henry too. I worry that George is going to feel a bit left out once Wm and Julia are married. Maybe he and Henry will get closer. There is an opportunity there for some crackerjack highjinks!!

I'm all about the George/Henry friendship! I think it's one of the great aspects of the show that could stand to exploited more and more. It adds a depth of human element, because I feel like everyone has that one friend that they can count on. I've mentioned it elsewhere, but the Brackenrieds' relationship is another element that can't focused on too much, IMO.

And one of the weird reasons I like it is I get no gay vibe about it at all which clears the field for my mind to wander around the meaning and joys of male friendship. It also kind of evokes a simpler time. (This is not to say I object in any way to slash pairings, which I'm not religiously averse to and I've bought into on other shows - in fact I've been wondering how MM excludes those notions so far for me...at least in pairings obviously presented like George/Henry). Anyway, the more George/Henry friendship, the better! |

There is definitely room in the budget to try someone in an occasional role to see how the chemistry works with the whole cast and George in particular.
