It may be the sheer preponderance of circumstantial evidence, but we all suspect George is a fabulous cook. And thanks to Mrs. Kitchen, poor William has been starving for years. I doubt Julia has had much time to develop her own culinary skills in the mean time.
Given its two-professional lifestyle, Chez Murdoch-Ogden will probably have to hire some sort of cook/housekeeper: but in other threads we've discussed how incomfortable William would be with servants (for class reasons) and perhaps Julia as well (for woman's rights reasons). I'm thinking either Julia or William - in fact, perhaps William, would like to develop some culinary skills (beyond peanut butter and jelly) as a loving domestic gesture/chemistry experiment.
Who better to turn to than their best pal George? Under his supervision, whoever chooses to put on an apron will be turning out delectable pastries in no time!

No, no, no! Poor George already does all the running around for Station House No. 4, does all of William's filing, digs up every suspicious grave, and generally takes the brunt of the constabulary's grunt work. George may be a fantastic cook (or not, considering it may be something he left up to one of his aunts) but if he starts cooking for the Murdoch household, I'm afraid it will be a demotion from loyal friend to faithful servant. :/ Granted, he can try to teach William, but it would be too easy for William to inadvertently take advantage of him. I think Julia and William can figure it out on their own. It will be more fun that way...isn't cooking just a yummy form of chemistry, after all?

No, I don't mean he should serve William and Julia in any way! Quite the opposite - I'm thinking in terms of the Freemason Hierarchy. Outside Station House 4, George would be the recognized Master of Cuisine, and would enjoy renewed respect from both William and Julia for his expertise. William would be quite fascinated with what George knows and would want to know the theory behind it all. As for the actual cooking, I think William and Julia should do that for each other, creating many very romantic moments.

Well, I guess we can allow that...it would be nice for George to take the spotlight for a moment anyways. I guess I'm also not as confidant as you are in George's cooking ability. I'm sure he could do it if he set his mind to it, but if he lives in a boarding house as well, and was taken care of throughout childhood, he probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to learn.

I'm not that confident, actually. Perhaps it would be poor writing to create a stereotypical package of someone who can sew, provide the office with plants, AND cook. You never want to go exactly where the viewer is expecting you to go. I do love it when George shows how supremely he's been underestimated, though. He deserves a raise! And a promotion!

George deserves a raise for sure!!! He may though, be of a higher rank than the other constables. When I first started watching MM, I did some research on Canadian police ranks and found this list on Wikipedia:
-Chief of Police / Commissioner / Chief Constable -Deputy Chief of Police / Deputy Chief Constable -Staff Superintendent -Superintendent -Staff Inspector -Inspector -Sergeant Major -Staff Sergeant -Sergeant / Detective -Police Constable 1st Class / Detective Constable -Police Constable 2nd Class -Police Constable 3rd Class -Police Constable 4th Class -Cadet
Granted, this may not reflect rankings in 1899, but if William is a Sergeant/Detective, I would imagine that George is probably a 1st Class/Detective Constable. Then perhaps someone like Henry would be a 2nd Class, then the others on down the list.

In all this time, there was still room to promote William some more, and Brackenreid hasn't done that either? *stamps foot*

Well, I excuse Brackenreid since the sergeants probably have different duties than what William does. I think he called one of the other officers "Sergeant" at one point, but that guy was manning the front desk. William certainly doesn't belong behind a desk!

Yes, I'm almost sure I've heard "Staff Sergeant". Still, there needs to be someplace for William to go. =/ There was a glass ceiling 8 seasons ago.

Well, the first episode clearly showed us that William wasn't cut out for Inspector material. So it seems like the only other place he could go would be outside of Station House No. 4
