Someone mentioned there was a shot of the outside of William's boarding house in Convalescence. Maybe this is a clue? (per Google Earch) Ontario Street seems to go up to #20 where it meets up with a cross street. Straight ahead is a parking lot and a commercial building. Ontario St. continues on after a bit of a jog to the right and it seems to pick up at #49 Ontario St. I seem to remember reading an old interview someone did with Maureen Jennings and she mentioned that #22, specifically, does not exist. (She would likely do that on purpose so as not to cause any issues (book fans, etc.) for whoever lived there, had there really been a #22. Does the rest of the street have a brick/brownstone boarding house Victorian look?

I've been chatting with CosmicCalvalcade about how a television show set in historic Toronto gives modern Toronto a "sense of place". For foreigners like me, this backstory puts a pin in my cognitive map of the world like I have for other Cities of the Imagination - New York, London, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Cairo... Those are destination cities because you are mentally familiar with them whether you've been there are not. You've read about them in history books, in fiction. They've provided settings for movies and TV shows. Eventually they become the backdrop to your fantasies. A virtuous cycle occurs where these "destination cities" only get chosen as settings because people are familiar with them. But people are only familiar with them because they are frequently chosen as settings. Oy! MM has made a running start on envisioning Toronto as its own "setting". Even though I've never been to Toronto, it's a very particular place in my head now, and it's a place I might want to visit some day. And I'm not the only one. I just spotted this article about Murdoch Mysteries fans trekking across the border just to tour sites related to the show: www.brantfordexpositor.ca/2014/06/19/is-murdoch-mysteries-tourism-drawSo given the potential Murdoch Mysteries has for boosting tourism of "historic" Toronto, and even sites specifically related to the show, why don't I see a whiff of this on Toronto's official tourism promotion site? www.seetorontonow.com//Perhaps Murdoch Mystery theme tours would be a bit tacky and overboard, but perhaps more historically themed ones should be the order of the day? Someone is dropping the ball there. Perhaps Toronto Tourism is run by Ovation TV. Toronto is hosting World Pride and getting ready for the Pan Am Games next year, so it is basically a mess right now! However, it would be really nice to have some kind of historical tour. THe CBC is currently restructuring, with significant job losses, because it is loosing money badly, so I bet they are afraid of anything that is not a "sure thing" in their minds.

Haha, then this might be a nice grassroots thing for fans to figure out. We could post a map here for visitors to use.

Does the rest of the street have a brick/brownstone boarding house Victorian look? I just realized I was looking up 22 Ontario Street and he lived at 222 Ontario Street. That is residential. Homes, probably from that era but have seen better days. I also looked up the walking tour that Heritage Toronto used to run. Maureen Jennings actually led the way in 2009. The details are no longer on the web but here's the site: the-word-blog.com/?s=murdoch+mysteriesNo Murdoch tours in their 2014 roster----dang! Maybe someone can create a self-guided walking tour based on either Maureen Jennings books or the TV show or a combination of each. That would be interesting for someone so inclined.

I guess my memory was mixed up by all of 22OntarioStreet's fan activities. If we can recover the materials from the old tour and post them, that would be nice. Perhaps someone could ask on the CBC facebook page?

I'm planning a personal MM site tour through Brantford, Galt, Cambridge and Hamilton this summer. Because there is recon involved it will take some time but I'll let you know what I find. I'm at my cottage at the moment on Lake Simcoe so I'm currently looking for the Tour de Murdoch property and the proposal property, both from the water. If I can a) find them (quite likely) and b) post pics (less so), I'll do it!

Oooh, ok! Help would be good. I'm starting with the article written by the American couple who toured Brantford. I'm also going to get some screengrabs to show my aunt who lives in Brantford to see if she can point me in the right direction.
Hey carco, I have to go through Cambridge anyway, you wanna come?

Sure, I'm game. Send me an email when you decide to do it and if I can manage it, I will join you. We could meet at "William's" in C'bridge---seems an appropriate start, no?

Ok so I finally have time to go downtown. I have the address for station# 4 which is 2 Wilton St., and William's boarding house, 22 Ontario St. These are in easy walking distance from Union Station (I am taking the GO train.) Does anyone know of any other addresses pertinent to the show that would be located downtown?
