I've been chatting with CosmicCalvalcade about how a television show set in historic Toronto gives modern Toronto a "sense of place". For foreigners like me, this backstory puts a pin in my cognitive map of the world like I have for other Cities of the Imagination - New York, London, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Cairo... Those are destination cities because you are mentally familiar with them whether you've been there are not. You've read about them in history books, in fiction. They've provided settings for movies and TV shows. Eventually they become the backdrop to your fantasies. A virtuous cycle occurs where these "destination cities" only get chosen as settings because people are familiar with them. But people are only familiar with them because they are frequently chosen as settings. Oy! MM has made a running start on envisioning Toronto as its own "setting". Even though I've never been to Toronto, it's a very particular place in my head now, and it's a place I might want to visit some day. And I'm not the only one. I just spotted this article about Murdoch Mysteries fans trekking across the border just to tour sites related to the show: www.brantfordexpositor.ca/2014/06/19/is-murdoch-mysteries-tourism-drawSo given the potential Murdoch Mysteries has for boosting tourism of "historic" Toronto, and even sites specifically related to the show, why don't I see a whiff of this on Toronto's official tourism promotion site? www.seetorontonow.com//Perhaps Murdoch Mystery theme tours would be a bit tacky and overboard, but perhaps more historically themed ones should be the order of the day? Someone is dropping the ball there. Perhaps Toronto Tourism is run by Ovation TV.

A lot of the show is filmed outside of Toronto, but it would be cool to visit, say, William's home address: 22Ontario St..

Hehe, I hope I've created a monster. My mom has Canadian roots, which is actually how Murdoch Mysteries (in it's super secret guise The Artful Detective) caught my eye in the first place. So this is conceivable family trip some day. I already gave my Mom all 6 MM seasons that are on DVD already, partly BECAUSE the show is set in Canada. Ps. Post the pics here. >.>

There was a walking tour at one time, based on the books. You're right though, it would probably be a good time now, to start those up again. Particularly around the time of the Murdoch Experience, if it's on again this year. I seem to recall reading somewhere that 22 Ontario St. doesn't exist. But that's kind of depressing news for a Murdoch Mysteries fan so let's assume that was just misinformation.

Here's the Wiki site about last year's and the panel discussion is on you tube, (and facebook I think). murdochmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Murdoch_Experience_2013It was all things Murdoch and meet and greet with the cast, etc. It was held in Toronto.

Does anyone remember the address for Station #4?

If I can figure out how to. I am basically helpless with computers. And my computer is acting up right now so I am doing this on my cell. I'm not sure about the cellphone, but here is how you post pics. Use the "Add Attachment" button above all the little buttons on the reply text box. After you upload the image, there is a button to "insert" the image into your reply.

Someone mentioned there was a shot of the outside of William's boarding house in Convalescence. Maybe this is a clue?

Someone mentioned there was a shot of the outside of William's boarding house in Convalescence. Maybe this is a clue? (per Google Earch) Ontario Street seems to go up to #20 where it meets up with a cross street. Straight ahead is a parking lot and a commercial building. Ontario St. continues on after a bit of a jog to the right and it seems to pick up at #49 Ontario St. I seem to remember reading an old interview someone did with Maureen Jennings and she mentioned that #22, specifically, does not exist. (She would likely do that on purpose so as not to cause any issues (book fans, etc.) for whoever lived there, had there really been a #22.
