It''s coming. Both of us are pretty busy this weekend. Suffice to say it was great to meet each other (lovemeondays and I) and we did find our locations in downtown Toronto. This means the addresses, so what was there bore no resemblance to what is in the show. For instance, 2 Wilton, the police station address, is a parking lot. It would take some digging through the archives to find out what was there 100 years ago. We did take pictures and when I get a chance, I will try to upload them.

Aw so carco didn't hop on the wagon?
If I have time I'm still hoping to do something like an illustrated/photo tour map that we can post here, and people can use for their own tours.
I'm getting more tempted by the minute to go for an absinthe tasting...
Sounds like your experiment was interesting! We have 2 types of absinthe in the liquor store here and they are pretty pricey. I think I will just stick to wine and beer.

It's expensive here, too, even if you get it in a liquor store instead of a bar. But TokyoFallenBelle was right about watching what a professional bartender does with it first. I guess it's kind of obvious, and it was on TV, but if you've never done it before, it's nice to get a "walk-through".
lol there are almost a thousand pics of the place on Yelp - I presume a lot of it is the Absinthe. Hopefully there are some interior shots of the restaurant itself, since it's also nice.
Let's see if I can do this. Sorry it has taken so long. This is 4 Wilton St., where Station #4 was located. Yes it is a parking lot, behind the St. Lawrence Market.
Ok it seems like I can do this only one picture at a time. Really I am not trying for God status tonight. This is the only way I can figure out how to do this.
Here is the sign for Ontario St., and the building that stands at where 22 Ontario St. would be: William's boarding house.
And last but certainly not least, here's one for you Snacky. A homburg I found in a store in Niagara on the Lake. Yes I tried it on but my fashion advisor, aka my daughter, gave it a thumbs down. I am no Murdoch.

LOL - I'm wondering how I will look in a homburg now!
What I was thinking of doing was making some sort of tour map and overlaying these pictures on it. Could you find some sort of area map and trace out the path you took on it? Then I can overlay the pictures you took!
I also think it's worth noting that Toronto is an uncredited character in the show. Honestly, I'm so over American shows all being based in LA, or NYC, that I'm extra intrigued when a show does establish itself these cities. I cite CSI Las Vegas, and Miami as wonderful examples of this, and I think other Americans really enjoyed a new locale as well. Too bad they broke their format with CSI NY. Another NY cop show, yawn.

I think Toronto is the breakout star of that show! I posted an interview elsewhere that showed Yannick is very aware that MM does introduce Canadian culture around the world, and in a way it's a vessel of "Canadian pride". That's a lot of responsibility! But it sounds like he's up to it!
As a historical major, I have to point out that what gives New York, Paris, London, etc. a familiar "sense of place" (and a destination for tourists) is their widely known history. Everyone has a vague sense of the highlights and major landmarks - like they might know a friend's face and backstory. Canada didn't have that. Modern shows couldn't give Canada that. MM can.
That's why I've been saying all along that MM is a great ambassador for Canada, and CBC probably had a vague sense of this when they picked it up. Once people get to know Toronto, other shows and movies can be set there. MM fans are loving Toronto! Let Toronto be a diva!
For those of us who live in or near Toronto we would love the attention but we also would like the city to clean up its act! Get a real mayor, not a buffoon. And fix transit and roads so that getting around the city is not such a headache. I will not drive in downtown Toronto: it is completely crazy. And I am ok with taking subways and buses but the service has deteriorated greatly over the last 20 years. That's why RoFo got elected: he talked big about subways. Then he got in and very little has happened. Transit is a major issue in the election that will take place in Oct. Everyone wants it but no one wants to pay for it. MM has and should continue to focus on the rich history of Toronto and the surrounding area as those who have run the burg for many years have held little regard for the city's past. I am sure you know that most of the exterior shooting for the series takes place outside of Toronto, in smaller towns and cities that have been more diligent about preserving their older buildings, parks and shorelines. It is like the city wants to erase its past in an effort to become "one of the big boys" on the world stage. So sad.
