Hi-like my title says-I'm an American living in Japan. I'm home for a few a weeks visit, and I got hooked on "The Artful Detective" while watching with my stepmom last week. As is usual, I'm late to the party, but here nonetheless. After a few days lurking I decided to join the fun.

It's a miracle you managed to discover Murdoch Mysteries here!

Hee! Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm from Texas, but as I said, I live just outside of Tokyo. The first episode I saw was the circus episode (can't remember the title just now) and there was something about the show that intrigued me. Predictably, I seem to be shipping Julia/William, but I do love me some angst. Nice to meet all y'all!

She predicts doom for poor William! D: MM has one of the most infectious ships of any show I've ever watched. I think it can be attributed to the cruel separations. However, I'm lucky to have viewed these separations, and their resolutions in hindsight. For the viewers who watched this when the show was in danger of being cancelled, they were truly traumatic.

I could see where that would be traumatic-a little bit of toying with is nice and angsty, but too much seems far too cruel. The first fandom I got involved with many years ago was Red Cap, a British military police drama. They had a wonderful second season cliffhanger and had set things up for an interesting third season when the Beeb pulled the plug for no reason given. It seems even the cast hadn't expected it. I've been a bit wary of getting involved in new fandom ever since. The only reason I got involved in the SG-1 fandom was that my fellow Red Cap fandom friends made a convincing argument with lots of angsty pic spam.

That's exactly what almost happened to Murdoch Mysteries, which was running on a smaller Canadian channel at the time. This fandom definitely needs more angsty pic spam! I'm trying to cross-fertilize some of the Tumblr bling here. There's one Tumblr with a lot of kissing gifs that I haven't even gotten started on, lol.
