Lol is this my 'payment' for the innuendo vid? Also, what movie is this from? Sharknado? I'm not a big fan of shark movies. Never even seen Jaws. But it is quite a striking image.

Yep Sharknado - just thought you would find it funny! If I hadn't had a guest last night, it would have been great to grt something like this into the Sharknado tweetstorm last night!

I guess the enthusiasm for Sharknado must be an American thing...? Sharknado 2 was the WORST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! Meaning it was also the BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! The only thing that would have made it better was Detective Murdoch popping out of a Tardis in the middle of Yankee Stadium. www.themarysue.com/twitter-reacts-sharknado-2-the-second-one/2The first 5 minutes managed to combine Evil Dead 2, Airplane!, Jaws, Snakes on a Plane, Every Bad Syfy Monster Movie Ever, and a Wil Wheaton cameo. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, too. That's just the first 5 camp-o-licious minutes. Oh, and the protagonists are has-beens from 90210 Beverly Hills and Days of Our Lives. This is American the apotheosis of American schlock.

I think so...though I know a few people who saw the first one and enjoyed going on about how dumb it was.
I guess it'll be clearing out at the Razzie's this year.

Did the original Sharknado get a Razzie last year? I think it was so bad it was actually considered a masterpiece and a work of art in kitcsch and camp. Plus no one actually watches the movie - the event is actually the tweetfest about the movie. Besides with that many cameos in it, I don't think they're allowed to call it "bad" anymore.

I have no effing clue. I'm trying to think of the worst/best movie I've ever seen but the only thing coming to mind is The Room. There must be something worse than that.

Certain movies like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" or "Plan 9 from Outer Space" or "The Blob" are so bad, they are almost religiously revered in the U.S.. There are a couple of more modern films that have that status: the Evil Dead saga, especially Evil Dead 2 has that cachet - and Sharknado certainly lays on the tribute to Evil Dead, as well as just about everything else that's stupid, shallow, and gratuitously violent in American culture. Cameos include professional wrestlers, country singers, people who became famous for losing weight on TV, news personalities - the female lead seems to be a famous airhead of some sort (probably with a famously fake boob job). Actual news show hosts (already famous in the US for not delivering serious news) give updates on the Sharknado weather and I believe fight off a few sharks. I couldn't see the whole thing because it was the last night my guest was here, but I do hope to catch one of the reruns on Saturday).

Yeah I saw that first one as a kid and I was so confused the whole time. I should watch it again. Seen the first evil dead but that was enough for me. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't.

The first one is just a bad horror movie. It's the second one where Bruce Campbell loses the hand, rises up with a chainsaw, and falls through a hole into the Middle Ages that is considered primo schlock.

Hmm, might check that out then. If you like sheer silliness more than horror, go for the third one: that's Bruce Campbell trying to get back from the Middle Ages with his chainsaw arm! This is the guy that went on to play Brisco County Jr. - a feeder stream for Murdoch Mysteries.

Just settling in for the Saturday Sharknado marathon. First thing I saw on Twitter was a comment from SE Hinton, lol - The Outsiders vs. Sharknado? Here's a another: "I've seen Jaws so many times -- never made me afraid of the ocean. saw Sharknado 2 once and I'm never going into showbiz again" I'm trying to decipher this one: "Sharknado is white people". Does that mean white people are sharks, devouring all the resources of the world (and then crying "global warming" before anyone else can enjoy a high standard of living)? Or does this mean most of the cast and cameos are white? Are does that mean that mainly white people enjoy kitschy trash entertainment like this? I just wish I had some liquor on hand like SE Hinton so I could do my white person trash rut up right...! UPDATE: Sharknado 2 will be followed by "Sharktapus vs. Pterakuda"...how low can SyFy go? Apparently still searching for the floor, hahahaha. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy didn't I think to buy some liquor!

I have no effing clue. I'm trying to think of the worst/best movie I've ever seen but the only thing coming to mind is The Room. There must be something worse than that. I watched a bit of The Room - I'd actually seen this before but forgotten about it. IMHO this is an over-hyped bad film rather than a genuine cult film: the only cult features are how bad it is. In no way, shape, or form is it in the same league as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" - which some article (Wikipedia?) compared it to. This is the movie version of a Rick Roll. Sharknado, on the other hand, is packed with kitschy references - not just other cult films, but ones that were bricolaged from previous B movies themselves, creating a sense of American pop culture inbreeding going back to what boils down to being a shallow, but heroic American. Sort of like that line in Speed: "(I'm not smarter but) I'm taller!" Aw, dang, couldn't upload this gif. I was worried that would happen. Hope we can still upload pics. Later tonight I'll go back through the forum and replace some of my uploads (a lot of which are repeats) with links to create some room for other folks to use the uploader. Hopefully the forum will give the space back.
