He didn't seem too concerned about being rebuffed when she said it was time to retire to the bedroom I like the theory of kiss-transfer of champagne making him tipsy! Perhaps more shy/proper than fearful? Habit from being raised by nuns?

He didn't seem too concerned Henry 's money was on the wedding being consummated before the waltz ended. William was probably so eager that their girst time beat all known land speed records. No one is arguing otherwise, Ziggy!

Snacky and I were discussing that William has always seemed a bit insecure around Julia I've been thinking that if an entire bottle of champagne was consumed and the afternoon went by, William may have missed a dozen subtle hints before Julia had to say outright "let's take this to the bedroom." But she didn't say let's take this to the bedroom as if he needed a prompt. The champagne was finished so what do you do now? "Seems it's time to retire to the bedroom Detective."

But they had been hanging out on the couch since that morning. Julia had invited William up to the room to do "other things". And all he did was pour more champagne and chat? He didn't make a move himself?

They'd been there since the afternoon or at least that's my interpretation of the timeline and they were supposed to go to Delmonico's for dinner.

I'm thinking they skipped Delmonico's since William never got the Canadian money. But I'm surprised they spent so long on the couch rather than getting on to the "other things". That's why I think William may have missed several blatant openings. Julia finally had to spell it out for him.

They arrived at the hotel and checked in, went up to the room and didn't tip the bell boy. Got the phone call, went out to the museum which was closed then returned. William went for the ice and saw the two assassins in the elevator. They talked to the hotel detective, it was still light. They supposedly went to Delmonico's, presumably came back and finished off the champagne, it was dark out by then. Not sure they had time to sit and talk, maybe they weren't talking.... You yourself said just because we didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Or did they have a champagne-fueled nookie-session before Delmonicos and one after...? Also, for those wondering just how flexible (and serious about it) William is...

Yes, the ice is somewhat confusing but I think the key here is the guys in the elevator that set him off on detective mode. I think perhaps the champagne got forgotten when they called the hotel detective. I was wondering about Delmonico's and no US currency but presumed as it wasn't mentioned that they hadn't gone that maybe he let Julia pay ... until he got his American money.... Where did you find that pic??

Where did you find that pic?? I randomly remembered seeing a pic of YB doing William in a James Bond pose that would go with my James Bond post, so I was searching Google Images for that. Interestingly it was on the Sky TV site. I think it was part of YB's "dance" series from last year. pages.skytv.co.nz/programmes/murdoch-mysteriesOkay, so the original ice bucket melted while they went on their snipe hunt - good hunt. I doubt William would let Julia pay for Delmonico's. Either they didn't go, or William was lying about having Canadian money later because A) he's cheap about tips and/or B) that American bellboy's shakedown tactics were really getting on his nerves, and he didn't want to buckle to them. So let's say the champagne drinking didn't really get started until the evening. Don't you think Julia's invitation was rather blunt? That's what makes me wonder if there were previous more subtle "openings" that William failed to grasp.

Maybe he did get his American money but just didn't want to tip the bell boy by that time. I don't actually see him as a bad tipper, just not enamoured of this particular bell boy. No I don't read Julia's invitation as blunt, to the point, but not blunt. I hear nothing in her voice that makes me think this is anything more than her suggesting it's time for bed ... as the champagne's run out.

The fun part the champagne kisses theory is William's tolerance for alcohol is much lower than Julia's.

It does challenge the sexism of the assumption that it's the woman who is the double-jointed one... Also, it's kind of amusing to think of William doing early sexual yoga-calisthenics (theorized by the whole Kellogg cult) in anticipation of marrying Julia, hahahahaha!
