I had huge psychological dissonance issues adding Techtra3 to my Murdoch Mysteries video list, yet I felt obligated to do it since she does make so many vids. The problem for me was there was a whole category of vids on YouTube that I felt were being made by former Sue Thomas F.B. Eye fans, and they were really Yannick Bisson fans, and they weren't really Murdoch Mysteries fans yet...at least I wasn't getting that vibe through their vids because the music didn't jive with the Murdoch Mysteries videos they were making at all. Anyway, there are ways of applying "inappropriate" music in quirky ways...and I think Techtra3 is finally actually getting into the groove of Murdoch Mysteries with this Top Cops piece: This seems to be a genuine breakthrough piece to me. The theme is unusual, the structure is very creative. It made me laugh. I hope Techtra3 continues more on this vein! Btw, why does this have the Expo label on it? Was there a vid contest?

Techtra3 made several videos specifically for MME14, this was one of them I'll be sure to look for the others, but I really like how she finally broke out of the Sue Thomas mode here. This is not to dis Sue Thomas: I liked that show: it taught me a lot about deaf culture that I actively use. But the video style direct transfer from Sue Thomas seemed really disjoint when applied directly to Murdoch Mysteries. I can't describe why because it wasn't because the music was modern: you can certainly contrast the music, which was done in this video really well.

This is definitely one of her better videos however I don't like the 4:3 format she seems to do everything in as the show is in 16:9 and everything is squished. Not sure why she does this as she's supposed to be well versed in video making.

It might relate to where she is getting her clips from. For instance, Ovation might actually be showing The Artful Detective in 4:3. Perhaps this is the setting on her TV or DVR, and she doesn't know how or doesn't wish to changd it. 4:3 is the default for older TVs. Perhaps this is the default when setting up projects in her video editor, or she is using a cheap video editor. I wouldn't quibble much over it, considering how few people are making MM vids at all. Let's just call it a special effect!
I'm just so excited/relieved that she is fully in MM mode now. Now she can help introduce the show to others - whereas I think the Sue Thomas thing would leave people going: "Wuh...?"

I believe Techtra3 is Canadian so I doubt she'll be getting them from a US source. I know if I was making videos I'd be getting them off the DVD's, but that's me. There are several places to get reasonable quality 16:9 copies of the show....

There are several places to get reasonable quality 16:9 copies of the show.... Really? The Sue Thomas cult-i-ness made me think US, but it might be Yannick Bisson cult-iness via Sue Thomas. Are you sure? You don't know anyone's situation from the outside. The fact I have so much time to post here means I don't have so much money right now. I wouldn't be able to afford high end vid editing software, and I'd probably just used source material I'd recorded myself. Anyway, I'm just saying I'm grateful whenever someone does try vidding because it is a great "short" way to introduce the show around. But of course for that to be effective, the vids also need to be something that would attract people to the show. As long as Techtra's vids weren't really reflecting MM, they weren't doing that - and that's what was making me tear my hair out because chances were when someone searched YouTube, her vids would come up. But if she's starting to appreciate MM for the show itself, and not just Sue Thomas hangover or Yannick Bisson, then I'm feeling bit better about that.

Looked a little closer, she appears to be from Toronto and she's definitely a Sue Thomas fan. Thinking about it I think she wrote a ST/MM crossover fanfic. She claims to be a proofreader/videographer. I did see her at the MME and she's not that old, or at least to this old fart she seems young!

Sometimes amateur work gets you some sort of job which you can add to your resume. Maybe an American who moved to Toronto? (To be closer to Yannick Bisson, lol). Anyway, it's time-consuming to make vids, so I think it should always be encouraged. But if your encouraging it when it's not helping the larger fan effort, then you may be doing more harm than good - at least as far as the goal of helping the show goes. This situation was kind of a thin tightrope given how few vid-makers there are, so I'm just glad she's expanding her horizons a bit. XD
