It's almost like so long as he's slightly uncomfortable and completely buttoned up, he's respectable and proper. But when the tie come off.... The hat protects William from danger physical danger, the tie keeps William's erotic urges in check. Yes! I believe that's it! The tie is only significant where Julia or another woman he's attracted to is involved.

He doesn't seem to mind the tie being off in situations where there are other people around. I'm thinking here of Midnight Train to Kingston, Stairway to Heaven and Bloodlust particularly, but that tie better darn well stay on when there's just the two of them around. Yes, this! That tie is truly starting to reach mythical powers status. If we ever do see him without it alone in her presence, is that going to be code for intimacy is about to happen or has just happened?

I liked the subtle sub-story plot of there not being a date yet as a viewer-it adds complexity and addresses a real concern between W/J and their socio-economic differences. But I want to throttle William for having cold feet-though I enjoy the story line of him having cold feet. Does that make sense? 3 months is a surprisingly long delay. An overly long delay. If I were Julia, I'd be getting just a tad concerned about what was taking so long. I'd certainly start dropping hints. Perhaps I'd start doing some stealth psychoanalysis to find out what's going on. But I do think the explanation of what's going on is really great. William passed over for promotion. Julia unwittingly setting expectations higher than William can afford. William has to be wondering if Julia will be happy with him over the long the term. Will she be willing to pay the price for the sacrifices he made?

Good points-quite true. But, I'm wondering if William thinks he's atoned for his sins through his service, and now that he's the Mayor's BFF, he has a chance for promotion now. But now he's been passed over after all that sucking up. Ouch! That's gotta hurt. I think William thought he had a chance to fix the mistakes of his past, but now it seems he is doomed to carry a ball and chain forever. And if he marries Julia, she will be weighed down by that ball and chain and well. I think that has a lot to do with the delay in the wedding date.

I think this might be why he was nonplussed about walking around in a form fitting bicycle outfit in Tour de Murdoch ( no Julia) and why he was freaked out at wearing a very similar fitting bathing suit around only her in Loch Ness Murdoch. Plus, the underwater shots show him very handsy with her, and he makes a scandalous comment to her (whispered unfortunately ).

I mentioned earlier that it's one thing to have a long engagement-but even then, people are pretty quick to set a date-even if it is far off! But, a long engagement makes no sense between those two.

Will she be willing to pay the price for the sacrifices he made? I think it's actually longer than 3 months. Brackenreid said he was in the hospital for 3 months, he was obviously recuperating when he left as he was in a wheelchair. He's now walking around and completely physically healed. I'm guessing more like 4-6 months. I think they wouldn't want to consider a wedding whilst the Inspector was in the hospital as it would seem somewhat disrespectful. What price would Julia be paying for the sacrifices William's made? For that matter what sacrifices has he made...? I don't really see anything that would affect Julia or their relationship. Maybe Julia will be making sacrifices, after all she is used to money and may have to tone down her lifestyle to accommodate William's more frugal ways. I don't think he'd be into spending unnecessarily. Though they have been out on some expensive dates ... French restaurant, opera etc.

Oh the powers that will be unleashed once she gets that tie off.

That affair alone prevented William from ever gaining a reputation for Unimpeachable Morals. Unfortunately William really needed that to overcome the prejudice against his Catholicism. Now, however, has multiple career-killing strikes against him. His charm-offensive to the Mayor didn't work. He has to be feeling like a failure and wondering whether Julia will ultimately be happy marrying a man of such poor prospects.

But, a long engagement makes no sense between those two. That's why I think William is actively afraid of something.

But I'm hoping Brax' comment has enlightened the situation for her, and now she can set his mind to rest. I'm hoping for a resolution on this matter by the next ep-I like the storyline, but I don't want the writers dragging it out the entire season.
