I believe it's 1902. "Twentieth Century Murdoch" is the end of S5 so S6 takes place during 1900, S7 is 1901 and S8 is 1902. Several Western US states/territories (i.e. places with lot of dudes) gave women the right to vote decades before suffrage became the law of the land in 1920. They did it as a way to entice the ladies move there-one of these was polygamous Utah! I'm assuming parts of Canada and Australia did something similar? Not sure that Canada did.

I did enjoy the multiple storylines, however. But I did have one question, and that was: What year does this episode take place in? I'm assuming 1910? Or 1905 or something. It says that "Australian women have had the vote for 10 years" or something to that effect. Women in Australia as a NATION received the vote in 1901. Although during Australia's colonial days, they could vote as far back as the 1860s in some states. I believe it's 1902. "Twentieth Century Murdoch" is the end of S5 so S6 takes place during 1900, S7 is 1901 and S8 is 1902. It's supposed to be 1902.

OK then it's just me overthinking things *meep* Still I liked this episode. Although I didn't enjoy the bit with Jackson getting whacked on the head. I would've preferred seeing one of the constabulary hold his own against a group of thugs.

What a wonderful opener to the new season. So much action both regarding the waterfront and the suffragette movement. I have to say that I love the storyline about Brackenreid, I wouldn't have expected for him to be so afraid but it is understandable and makes him so endearingly human, Thomas Craig was excellent showing all the different nuances of what his character is going through. I also loved the easiness and easy banter between William & Julia, their relationship appears so strong and sweet. This episode had a lot going for and I can't wait to see more next week. barbarama! missed you I know you don't like spoilers and pretty much take the summer off from this board. And for me, real life took over for the past three months or so and I've been only able to post occasionally. I thought this was a terrific episode. Loved the filming of the waterfront confrontation between the dockworkers and the police shown in conjunction with the suffragettes and the police..it was quite something to watch. It was very realistic for the Inspector to have what we would now call PTSD and I loved that Julia spoke with him. Not knowing about PTSD in those days, she did what she could. I wonder if that is it or will he still be haunted by it in upcoming situations. He wouldn't know until he's put to the test again. Yes, Julia and William so content and relaxed with one another. For now? Something about this show always makes me wait for the other shoe to drop.

Whenever I see William *too* happy, I know something big must be common. When I saw those 3 kiss scenes in Ragtime, I was expecting that to be the harbinger of the Apocalypse (Murdochalypse?)! In any case, there seems to be several episodes with a theme of "appreciation" going on, and William already had a major confidence "Jungle Law" moment in the Waterfront eps. These chalk up to the "Greatest Detective in the King's Realm" side. Which means, as they say in the stock market, a "correction" must be coming. Can't wait to see what that is! *bites nails* I still hope William ends up in a major showdown with the Church someday. Angst-o-rama!!!

I can't forget Peter Mitchell's comments after the finale last season where he said give them the proposal and then drop bricks on their heads (with the Inspector's beating). After reading that I've always thought the Murdoch store inventory should include Murdoch-themed industrial style hard hats.

By the way, I was pleased to see that the official 100th episode t-shirt had gotten down to a simple homburg design. They are getting closer to cool t-shirts people can wear!

Well it's not so much a great idea as an obvious idea. If you want a timeless, wearable t-shirt, go for the most abstract symbol possible. I'm not a graphic designer, so mine may not be the best attempt at it, but that's the general idea. One of the best t-shirt ideas ever was the t-shirt for cats - just the 2 cat eyes on the back! Or the t-shirt for batman with just the bat signal. Another good one would be the hat and the tie! The hat on my shirt has the Station House 4 badge on it, which is kind of cool. I think I just figured out I didn't have enough curl to the brim which is what makes mine looks floppy. Here is a good one for Clockwork Orange. But I think it's always better to have the design on the back or a small one in the pocket area for women. This one caught my eye because of Yannick's eyelashes, though, lol.

1. Is William really so clueless? He's been trying to marry Julia for 5+ years and he says "Don't worry it won't be on a work day." He's always had a hard time picking up on social cues which at times made him seem slightly clueless, but after his failed proposal in season 7 he fell into this over the top stereotypical clueless guy persona for awhile. 2. I just loooove the scene where William tells Julia to stay out of trouble. Too cute. He just knows she'll get arrested. As well as the stick in the mud conversation a bit later. 3. This episode (and possibly part two) is the one time I think the suffragettes worked. These two episodes felt like less of a "crime mystery" and more of a general drama though. 4. I'm pretty sure Inspector Slorach ships Jilliam harder than any of us 5. This is one of my favorite MM episodes! This is one where they just seemed to get everything right. The only thing I wish was different was the fact that it's split into part 1 & 2! It would have been epic as a two hour episode.

William was working the "Adorkable" thing for several episodes in Season 8. It's not my favorite William look, and it comes off as parody to me. I agree, the suffragette story-line worked in this episode. That's because there were big stakes and the women ended up in jail! In the other episodes, suffrage just results in talking heads and Lillian taking cheap shots at Julia.
