The characters have aged more than the actual actors in person/off season - I think because of the exhausting way the series is filmed. I also think it's a problem with the way they do lighting, especially outdoors. There seems to be an attempt to remedy that problem a bit this year with mini vacation breaks (maybe because Yannick is now one of the producers and can advocate from an actor's perspective) but I'll doubt it will be enough. To the chagrin of ladies everywhere, Yannick will probably age early also because he's such an outdoor enthusiast, and the sun is not kind to skin. Helene, on the other hand, professes to be obsessed with skin care these days: let's see if that plays out as a visible "age difference" between William and Julia down the road!

Isn't ITV only handling global distribution, nothing to do with funding of MM?

I used to watch "The Graham Norton Show" on BBCA, which at that time was Channel 4 in the UK. I also caught part of a marathon of Footballers Wives on there as well, which was ITV. I couldn't get into it, but at least when I hear references to it, I generally know what they're going on about.

Yes, I believe they are only handling distribution but the rivalry was pretty great at one time. I hope it does happen for US viewers.

It’s good to know that they are showing S1 now and MM in general is getting to more people more easily. But I hope they are not doing what TV stations are doing in Canada where they edit out bits just to replace with adverts that no one wants to see, without a care as to plot continuity or viewer pleasure. It can be most frustrating when your favorite bits (or any bits for that matter) of the episode are skipped. Not everyone has the DVDs to fall back on.

Someone claimed Ovation was doing this. I thought this is why Ovation changed the name - so they could cut out sections. By the way, I noticed that in Atlanta they were syndicating MURDOCH MYSTERIES, not THE ARTFUL DETECTIVE. So apparently that distortion is unique to Ovation. They should have just made that a subtitle.

Some of the scenes weren't that important but they cut off the wrap up scenes from several episodes which ruined them.

I don’t know why they would do that as they have enough time to do adverts even if they aired the full episode. Cutting them back not only ruins the whole thing in most cases, they often end up with 7-8 minutes left in the hour after the episode ends and they just do more adverts right up to the top of the hour when their next program is scheduled to start. And they are even doing that now with the reruns of the regular episodes, not just S1. Senseless.

CBC has a lot of ads for it's other shows so ultimately has more ad time than CityTV hence the older shows are edited down. From S6 the shows were filmed for CBC and are slightly shorter. CBC doesn't have time at the end of the show, they go right into the next show. Different channel, different schedule and the older shows have to fit the new schedule. The problem isn't the fact they're edited down, the problem is what is edited out, it sometimes doesn't make sense. I'm sure the editor isn't a MM fan and therefore doesn't know what is and isn't important to fans, not that any of MM isn't important! There again, perhaps they don't care....

While the editors might not care that much about MM, CBC probably does care about hooking as many new fans as possible through syndication. People should write in and complain specifically about the end being cut off.

This was a complaint of mine about BBCA and the show Red Cap that I've mentioned before. We found out from British fans that we weren't getting key character development scenes, and that the shows were edited for time. The scenes surrounding the actual mystery were left untouched, but as we've discussed on this board, some of those character development scenes were amongst the most delicious and were the reasons we tuned into the show week after week. Luckily, our fellow fans across the pond taped them for us and sent them to us. Of course, we then had to get the tape converted from PAL to NTSC, but we each contributed money for the cost, and it was negligible in the end.. .such was life before Youtube and streaming on demand video services.
