There are a few big Steampunk conventions in the U.S. every year. I believe Teslacon, which takes place in November, is one of them. It also takes place in Wisconsin...not all that far from Toronto. It seems to me Team MM should send an ambassador or two to events like these. That's where the Word of Mouth starts. I also think it's important for MM to connect with this niche because otherwise they will easily fall into the category of "PBS mysteries" and their US audience will have only two segments: elderly somewhat pretentious PBS mystery watchers and Yannick Bisson stalkers. Murdoch Mysteries gets absolutely no reviews down here. There's no discoverability. But these steampunk conventions offer Team MM an opportunity to define themselves as a cult show for a younger audience. Hey it's just a few hundred miles. They could send some writers or members of the production team if they can't send some actors. www.teslacon.com/

What's the best way to do that? I usually just hope Shaftesbury has a social media coordinator that jots stuff down from web sktes. Perhaps that's a tad optimistic of me, though.

I know they're on fb not sure of anywhere else. You could send a tweet to Katie Wolfgang, @katiewolfgang, head of PR for Shaftesbury, don't know her email but I bet it's on the Shaftesbury website. It may be too late for the event in Wisconsin but they could look out for others.
