This is the first filk I've ever been inspired to attempt. A filk is a fan parody of an existing song - sort of what Weird Al Yankovic would write. This being my first attempt, I don't claim to be good at it.
This is based on "American Boy" by Estelle with Collaboration by Kanye West. I love this song despite the Kanye West participation. Lyrics can be found here (click here).
If anyone can think of a way to improve this, please let me know. I'd rather have this song be as funny as it can be than take credit for it. If I change any lines due to suggestion, I'll add credits at the end.
Canadian Boy - The William/Julia Let's Get Married Now Version
[William:]
Time to get this plan nailed down
Yeah, Julia, we 'bout to get down (get down).
Let's stop waltzing round each other right now!
Time to get married in Toronto town.
All ready to lay the ground.
I'm going to pour our house foundation right now!
Meanwhile Jules will be happy with me,
At Mama Kitchen's place, in my fantasy.
[Chorus (Julia):]
Take me to the place where we will live some day.
Take me to Rosedale, or up Forrest Hill Way.
I really want to come kick it with you.
You'll be my Canadian boy.
He said "Hey Missy.
It's really really nice to meet you."
I just met this 5 foot 11 guy who's just my type.
I like the way he's speaking his confidence is peaking.
Don't like his natty suits but I do like what's underneath them.
And no I will never obey
But I think morgue dates are fun and I've tossed the rules away.
First come to the West End.
So you can meet my Club friends.
I'm liking this Canadian boy, Canadian boy
[Chorus:]
Take me to the place where we will live some day.
Take me to Rosedale, or up Forrest Hill Way.
I really want to come kick it with you.
You'll be my Canadian boy.
Can we get away this weekend?
Take in the lake shore spray.
Let's go shopping, sweetheart, then we'll go to a café.
Let's go on the tramway.
Take me to the promenade.
I've not been to the boardwalk and I'd like to see what's good.
Dress in all your fancy clothes.
Homburg looking jaunty, stepping out with polished toes.
Walking that walk.
Talk that slick talk.
I'm liking this Canadian boy, Canadian boy.
[Chorus:]
Take me to the place where we will live some day.
Take me to Rosedale, or up Forrest Hill Way.
I really want to come kick it with you.
You'll be my Canadian boy.
I shall let you have your turn now, William
[William:]
Whose Killing 'em Toronto way.
Everybody gonna say you K,
Reluctantly 'cause most of this press won't dabble with me with me.
Julia once said to me, "Cool down, down, don't act a fool now, now."
But I'm a fool for her love oww oww.
Isn't nothing new now now.
He's crazy, I know what you're thinking.
Hey Brax, I know what you're drinking.
Gear Tinker, Trouble Bringer.
Solve the next puzzle soon as you're blinking.
What's your persona.
I'm a Canadian, no drama.
Am I improper if all my clothes aren't designer?
I dress as smart as a London bloke.
Before he speak his suit bespoke.
And you thought he was cute before.
Look at this homburg, tell me he's broke.
And I know you aren't into all that.
I read your poets, I feel your spirit.
You know I won't talk CASH.
Just 'cause those toffs want to hear it.
Now that we're engaged, I'm the gladdest
I'm going to pop if I don't have this!
Don't laugh, I know you love it.
So to heck with all that rubbish!
[Julia:]
Would you be my love, my love?
(Would you be mine?)
Would you be my love, my love?
(Would you be mine?)
Could you be my love, my love?
Ooh, would you be my Canadian boy, Canadian boy?
[Chorus:]
Take me to the place where we will live some day.
Take me to Rosedale, or up Forrest Hill Way.
I really want to come kick it with you.
You'll be my Canadian Boy, Canadian boy
You'll be my Canadian boy.
(Be my Canadian boy!)
Canadian boy.
[Julia:]
La la lala la lalala
La la lala la lalala
ADDITIONAL NOTE: I think this should be envisioned with both William and Julia wearing ties, and performing what shall henceforth be imagined as "the tie dance".
