Agreed. My husband was chatting with a colleague and her husband (also mid-30's) who said they couldn't get enough of period dramas, shows, mysteries, etc. particularly those that were foreign. My husband says he recommended MM to them, and they were most intrigued. We're having dinner with them this weekend, so I'll ask them if they had a chance to check it out yet. But, here's a question: If you're recommending MM to folk, what show do you start them out on? Power?

I was hooked by Season 2 (Starting with Snakes and Ladders). There is an ENORMOUS built-in audience for quirky period drama out there - it's just a matter of reaching them. What is Cosplay after all? What is MMRPG gaming? What are Steampunk balls? Seriously - San Francisco has an EDWARDIAN BALL!!!! That's why I was so frustrated about the lack of advertising of The Artful Detective in the US. That audience is seriously here. I'm not sure that they will even find the syndicated episodes, though. And when they do, key bits of the eps will be cut out. San Francisco Edwardian Ball: edwardianball.com/Their facebook page is quite fun, too: www.facebook.com/TheEdwardianBallThey are teaching people to waltz... (William, get in your Tardis right now!) What do you want to bet that NONE of the people who go annually to this know that MM airs on KRON 4, or that MM even exists in Canada? Total fail to reach the right audience.

If we weren't going to Thailand for Christmas, I'd seriously ask my husband to take time off work so we could fly to SF for this! Are you going? I would if I were there...in fact, if I'm not working yet, I wonder if I could go. But only if I get a fabulous dress... Seriously, it's actually the little things like this that I miss about living in the States. I mean, we may have a Steampunk Neapolitan pizza joint here in Tokyo, but no Steampunk balls so far as I know.

I've never been, though it's been on my list of things I'd like to do for a few years now: no money, no date, no waltzing skillz etc. There's actually quite a lot of steampunkery in this area though - probably because the proximity to Silicon Valley causes some sort of "retro" reaction to high tech. I do kind of wish I had FB so I could make an MM post there, though. (Complete with pic of William's waltz phail?) But I did make my usual effort by emailing the eventmeisters and pointing out MM's existence as an aid to helping people get in the spirit of things. Perhaps that will produce an FB post from the Powers That Be.
