Scenario 1: The writers are stupid and cut Helene's role so much that she has time to pick up another series. Don't forget she managed to do Durham County at the same time as MM, so there's still hope IMO. Scenario 2: The Murdochs open up the first ever crime lab (LOVE this idea) with Julia doing the lab work and William goes on a lecture tour to promote forensic science in general and their lab in particular. This is the nucleus of William's personal fortune so he can feel equal to Julia in this area. I like scenario 2! We know William can lecture, he did a great job in Big Murderer on Campus. This would be a way for him to break out and do more than just be a detective as we know he'll never break through that glass ceiling. Unless CC Giles finally puts his prejudice aside and admits a Catholic can make a good cop too despite their beliefs, which in reality aren't all that different from Anglican beliefs. I like scenario 2 or something akin to it -and they need to do it sooner rather than later! The show is more than capable of taking steps to fix Julia's character, but for me, the questions is will they? The longer they go without doing it says that they don't have any plans to do so. That's a major concern for me!

Not at all: the first Forensics university program is already in play in France. There's absolutely no reason why there can't be world's first dedicated forensics lab in Toronto. It's already a thing because of that Bertillonage thing.

Modernizing police the police department with motorcycles and such! I like it!

Per CBC: www.cbc.ca/programguide/daily/2015/03/30/cbc_television/?t=1426897830298Murdoch Mysteries (HD) (DV) - Series 8 - Eps 18 - Artful Detective (Season Finale) While pursuing a sequential killer who collects macabre trophies from his victims, Murdoch becomes a target. Well, that sounds darker. But we know Murdoch obviously survives, or there wouldn't be a 9th season. So, if someone dies, who is it? I'm thinking it's one of the women, since they've both been getting the character about to be killed off treatment the majority of the season.

Yes it does sound pretty dark. I wonder who the sequential killer is? Could it be Leslie Garland? Unfortunately the description says"he" or I would be thinking Sally Kendrick or Eva Pierce. It's the reference to "art" that has me thinking of Sally Pendrick. If someone gets killed, I hope it is not one of the main cast! I know a lot of people will hope it's Lillian.

Hope William doesn't lose anything relevant to child-bearing. Also I'm confused about that other ep description last week about William ending up in the hospital. Would that be this episode or Election Day?

I'm voting that the sequential killer is either Sally Pendrick (less likely) or Eva Pierce (far more likely). Both these women have a 'thing' for William and they enjoy the cat and mouse game of trying to outwit him.

I also agree with Snacky that it doesn't mean that one of the main characters has to die. But William will surely be in danger, maybe even Julia as well.

I hope that these women remain a mastermind and not the killer. That would put them on the same jail merry-go-round as Gillies, and the audience would get frustrated at the ridiculous of the repeated escapes. They should enable patsies instead like the Waterfront woman did. (Her biggest mistake was to get involved herself).

Combined with Yannick's #HoldOntoYourHats tweet, I wonder if the trophy that gets mailed back is his hat! Also still wondering why this is called The Artful Detective. Any sign of an art museum being involved? That might actually suggest a return of Sally Pendrick since she was an art thief, though there's nothing to suggest she's a sequential killer. Also it might mean William is able to fake a "macabre trophy" in order to set the killer up (and make the audience go "wtf" during the entire hiatus period...), Shades of Sherlock and The Reichenbach Fall.

But William will surely be in danger, maybe even Julia as well. If William is missing, that would give Julia incentive and perhaps a right to get involved as a detective herself.

I come back to my idea of Brackenreid being The Artful Detective. His painting has been prominent all season. Maybe he is the one that saves Murdoch by being smart, thinking, 'artful'. He then comes to the attention of whoever appoints the chief constable. He becomes CC, he makes Murdoch inspector (let's be honest he is the only one who would make William an inspector) and George becomes detective. George gets his well deserved promotion but can stay at SH4.
