Brackenreid is always drinking and no-one thinks he's an alcoholic. People read too much into every little detail on MM. I've seen mention of it, and would say that he's probably a functioning alcoholic. Of course, he's also seen the horrors of war, and even amongst veterans today, self-medicating is an acceptable way of dealing with your demons. Plus, I don't understand why people think alcoholics are bad people. They're not, they just have a problem.

I can understand that it might be hard for Julia and William to let Roland go. The writers showed us that they loved this baby. So I can understand their pain/their sadness because of the separation. But this ordeal created a distant between Julia and William. I think that Julia can't blame herself for asking Miss Freddie PINK to investigate and I also think that William can't blame Julia. It would be absurd because he would investiagte by himself, he couldn't help it. From the moment that they both knew that Joanne PERLY couldn't be the natural mother of Roland, they both knew that he surely had parents expecting his return and so they couldn't keep him. And objectively, bringing Roland back to his natural father was the best and the only thing that Julia and William could do. And no one can deny. According to me, the separation is the origine of this distant but not its cause. I think that the ordeal made Julia remind how much William wanted to be a father and maybe made her feel guilty for not being able to give him a son. She must have remembered " his joke " when William said to her that he would go with Captain BERNIER to the North Pole, a four years expedition, if he wasn't a father. What a modern husband! She can so easily think that he wouldn't stay just for her. OUCH! And it could explain the reason why she needed space and time. And I was disappointed to see that one more time, William put his work first and let Julia leave. I just hope that Julia -as a psychiatrist and as a doctor- will not fall into depression and become alcoholic. To finish, I also thought about a possible solution to their problem but I found no one. According to me, they just can not adopt a child to remplace another one. And Julia being pregnant seemed not to be an idea for the writers of MURDOCH MYSTERIES. Dommage!

Dear fan2TV: I'm with you on this one--PM has a lot of back-story to pull from-- they do tend to drop in little tid-bits to use later and I like your overall assessment...I did notice positive affection between W&J in the subsequent episode and I was relieved-- but I don't trust it...on the other hand if PM is not torturing W&J maybe he is just torturing "us" ...-rg

I don't know if the writers want to torture "us" but I note/notice with regret that they spoil the romantic and humoristic potential of the relationship between the two characters. I saw in the "Bl**dy h*ll" episode that there is no distance between Julia and William anymore. It would appear that they are now returning to their everyday life. A good thing! But I can't help thinking that there is a distance between the two actors. According to me, their performances were better years ago. Now, they were often frozen in one or two positions as if they didn't dare move/as if they avoided to move or touch. I liked their interactions which were subtly integrated into the stories/the middle of investigations and they didn't make the MURDOCH MYSTERIES show a soap opera. I miss them.

I loved the groundwork for "corruption at the top" laid in this one. I think they could have reeled out this arc for more than one episode, though.

Did we ever find the second body? The one of the Constable that found out about Peet's corruption. I know it was sermised to be cut up but did they ever find it? Well, now, remember - dey mentioned da woodchipper in da basement. Put a body through that, it don't leave much behind, doancha know. And yes, that's my attempt to phoneticize the strong Minnesota accent from 'Fargo.' Which was probably what was being referenced. *grin*
