Another terrific episode!
With that first scene it occurs to me that we have seen more of George and Nina's skin in only a couple of episodes than we have of William and Julia's in the whole series! I'm not complaining. They are 2 couples experiencing very different romantic paths. At least we don't have to feel that George is missing out. He is such a good guy, trying to do what is right, even when it is hard.
There was definitely more W/J. That little walk, holding hands to Mr. Ducharme's shop was sweet and a little flirtatious. Yes, I would agree with the majority that W/J have been rather tame since 918 but at least this was something. Ducharme=charming, lol! It makes a difference when Rebecca isn't in the morgue. Love it when Julia is sculpting...maybe one of her forensics lectures?
I quite enjoyed the Ugly Duckling storyline, and leave it to George to put it together.
Higgins....what kind of a line was that???!!!! And what of woman would think twice about it? "That's not the outcome I was expecting"....touche Jackson! I miss the keystone constables that George and Henry used to be. They were funny and this version of Henry is rather sleezy...he nicks trickets from crime scenes, leers at women and generally acts like a jerk. Sigh.
It\s interesting how each episode this season has focused primarily on a different main or secondary character and how non-players in the ep are completely absent. IMO it feels like the MM 'formula', for lack of a better term, is off kilter.

I believe that was Rob Carli playing the piano for Nina's act........loved Ducharme.......
Enjoyed the episode......and good for George for insisting the swan theory be taken seriously.....(his pause when telling the Ugly Duckling story was priceless....."You usually don't let me get this far....")

Starting at the end here. I agree, other than the first two eps, this season has a totally different feel to it. I like it but there again it doesn't feel like the MM I love, not sure what to think of this idea. I have to admit I did like tonight's ep very much, THE EDGINESS IS BACK!!! It was a good "tight" ep, I didn't mind the B plot but don't like Henry's recent persona, I used to really like him. I did like him actually admitting he usually fails at romance. Another bit of honesty from him, maybe we're seeing the beginnings of growth. I really can't say I'm a fan of George and Nina, can't put my finger on it but I am glad he's enjoying himself. As for W/J I really liked them in this ep. This is the W/J I want to see more of, I loved the walking hand in hand and W actually joked about not noticing J's lip rouge. I also got a kick out W commenting on the suspect's figure, it seems J did too, and being bribed into buying the jewellery. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I really like seeing them working together and they seem to be doing a lot of this in S10. I hated when J wasn't in the morgue, she really didn't have a reason to be part of the story-line other than as a love interest for W and she's MUCH more important to the show than that - even though that's my favourite part. I loved W in this ep, everything about him was spot on, I like when he has an opportunity to be funny. Yes, Mr. Ducharme is charming - other than recommending tape worm, what a great character!

I loved W in this ep, everything about him was spot on, I like when he has an opportunity to be funny. Yes, Mr. Ducharme is charming - other than recommending tape worm, what a great character! First of all, I think this was a fun episode and I enjoyed it. The show did a good job of hiding who the killer really was until the end, and the idea of the ugly duckling turned into a swan was well done. Ever since I read about the Flirtation Cards a couple of years ago, I was hoping to see MM put them to use, and they did so cleverly. I liked Jackson and co. trolling Higgins, he does deserve to be taken down a peg. Henry didn't used to be so douchey...I guess he's supposed to represent the Edwardian version of a F@ck Boy, but still... I also enjoyed George and Nina, I'm not ever going to ship them, but they're fun to watch. I like what she brings out in George... I was also rather annoyed at William for immediately fixating on Nina when she was just one of many clients who'd purchased the lipstick. He still thinks rather lowly of her, which is ironic considering she's not all that different from Julia, who's not exactly the feminine ideal of the age either. I also groaned when Julia told William that there was cyanide in the lipsticks, but only a trace amount. Since she buys from the same purveyor, she could have tested her own to see if similar amounts were found in hers as well. I enjoyed Mr. Ducharme as well, and it actually made me think of Andre Leon Talley, and the tapeworm was a common weight loss method employed back then, so I liked that bit as well. This was a good episode, and I enjoyed it, but... There was some flirting between W/J, which I appreciated and was fun, but so many opportunities to take it up a bit more were missed. We're more than a 1/3 of the way through the season and the romance has largely been missing since the adoption of Roland midway through last season as they adjusted to him, then mourning his loss, and of course when she was shot, all of which are quite understandable, but once again, they're back to being little more than mere coworkers with one another. I can't say that I have disliked any of the episodes from this season. They're quite good, and individually, one can't really find fault with them. However, the season seems to be disappointing as a whole, and as other have already stated, it's not quite the same MM that we've had previously. It's lost what made it addicting and special, and I miss that element. I still enjoy the show, but it's not quite as evocative as it once was. Look at the discussion surrounding episodes from previous seasons and compare them to this season and and the last bit of season nine-we haven't really found anything to analyze as much. We're super fans and we're finding it difficult to discuss and analyze the show as we once did. That's a sign, IMO. What's going on? Who knows. Is it because they're trying to attract a younger audience? Well, I hang out on Tumblr as well, and even the high school/University aged ladies love them some Jilliam, and they're also wanting to know what happened to them, so this can't be for their benefit. Yes, I am an unapologetic shipper, and I ship Jilliam hard. However, that's not the only reason why I watch the show, the ship was a piece, and MM has always been a show that benefitted from the sum of its parts. The growth and evolution of William Murdoch has been a fascinating journey, but we really haven't gotten that either so far. It seems that minor and supporting characters are getting the storylines and character growth this season, and the brilliant Detective William Murdoch is just now a wooden character. He's not particularly compelling anymore, and as a whole, this entire season has been rather William lite. I think these missing pieces are hurting the show, and it's troubling that the show has lost the thread again it seems so soon after season 8. The show is good in its current format, but it still leaves you wanting something more that was once there but is now gone. Like I said, I enjoy the show and I still plan on watching it, but it's no longer the compelling work it once was..

George and Nina have an unhealthy relationship. Nina is always having to change how she deals with situations or appease George for things he thinks aren't acceptable. George spends alot of his time judging her, and I can't support an unequal relationship like that. Most of the time I dislike George's behaviour when he's around Nina. It doesn't make him look good.
The killer was way too easy to pick out with there being basically no other viable suspect. The wife was too obvious, and no one surely believed Nina could be guilty.
I really liked William and Julia working together and their banter is always fun to watch. I enjoy when they tease each other. It was also cute to see Higgins finally get a chance with a girl. I felt sorry for him when he confessed he never has luck with women. Though knowing his luck with them it probably isn't going to last very long with the waitress.
I wonder if Brackenreid will be missing for more episodes this season, it really does seem like the actor needed/wanted a lighter schedule.

I really enjoyed this episode. It was funny, witty, interesting, more lighthearted (if there is such a thing in MM?). I believe that was Rob Carli playing the piano for Nina's act... In case anybody was wondering, the song was "Waltz of the Flowers": By the way - I also LOVED the joke about the alarm-clocks. It's rare that we see William really making a joke, or being sarcastic for that matter. It was very refreshing

I liked that little touch as well as Julia gossiping with Mr. Ducharme about some lady's nose job.

Like I said, I enjoy the show and I still plan on watching it, but it's no longer the compelling work it once was.. I've been thinking about this and I've decided that if we're getting a S11, and I very much hope we do, the writers need to be locked in a room to watch the show from the beginning to see what made the earlier seasons great and to see how it has changed. I agree, it's not as compelling as it once was. When I saw my first episode I was completely hooked. It's the only show that's happened and if I was new to the current season I don't think I would be hooked now. I'm not going to stop watching, it's still the best show on TV, but that's not saying as much as it once did.

I think the show will know in advance if its their last season, and I think the last season will be quite the deal. Just my .02.
