I'm so glad that there will be another season of Murdoch Mysteries. I'm anxious to find out what will happen next in the story.

No, the people who won the contest were different than the Murdoch and Ogden impersonators. One of the winners was a man dressed as a doctor. The other was a women dressed up in traditional Victorian garb.

I wonder if the writers want to explore the idea of a woman trapped in a marriage. That would have been a relatively common problem for women in this era. It's sad to think of Julia being caught in an unhappy marriage that she can't get out of. It will be interesting to see how they do get her out of it (since they surely will eventually). I also wonder if for part of the season William and Julia will take a backseat to George's romances. I want to see who he ends up with, too. And his romantic misadventures will probably be very funny as well as sweet.
I would like to see Ruby be more of a regular character this coming season. I wonder if they might have her take Patty Glynn's place at the Toronto paper. He probably wouldn't be in jail too long because he gave the money away and didn't hurt anyone but he likely would lose his position at the paper. And I'm sure William's absence from the station will only be temporary (kind of like Julia's time away from being coroner) but I wonder who will take his place for that time. I hope George will get to be detective for awhile. He'll be all loose ends and want William to take over again.

Hi all, I've been reading all of the great comments and decided to jump in as well. I'm soooo excited for season 5 of MM. But as for W/J I'm not so sure. As others have pointed out, she didn't really check in on William at the Wonderland Party. Also, the letter she wrote to him wasn't a profession of her love rather an opportunity/incentive for William to marry her. And if you think about it, Ruby was the one that invited the detective to the party not Julia. It was Ruby in season 3 i think who had the dinner with William and expressed interest and awe in his job. Perhaps the new couple to watch for could be William and Ruby. Yes, I know it may be a stretch but Ruby possesses a charming quality that puts even William at ease. Wasn't it also Ruby that convinced William to drink at the party as well? I also liked that Ruby had the courage to approach William about his love for Julia and even call him "feeble and dim-witted". She is blunt but caring at times but her point comes across clearly there's no ambiguity like with William and Julia's relationship.

huh, yeah that'd be a twist for sure! It could also be possible. someone else speculated that Ruby might take over that reporters job (the rest is my idea) and do an exclusive on William and then he'll let her comfort him because he'll be like what the hell, i've already lost the love of my life, i might as well get the next best thing (her sister). then the series could end with a double wedding of William marrying Ruby and George marrying Tess (i think that was her name). and George and Tess would open that detective's agency and occassionally consult on cases with William. And Julia would be all but forgotten (except during those awkward get togethers with her sister and ex-lover). but i think most fans would be out for blood if they did this (me included). then again if it was the end of the show they could sorta get away with it.
BTW for all you Brits out there, i've been wondering about something for awhile now. Okay, so in Canada/US a year of a show is called a season and the entire run of a show is called a series. but you guys call a year of a show a series, so what do you call the entire run of a show?

Yes, I've wondered this too!! It was Julia who convinced William to drink at the party. And Julia who convinced William to go to the party in Darcy's place. It's possible Ruby thought of inviting William and put the idea in Julia's head but we didn't see that if she did. Julia also admitted to Ruby that she still loves William but has moved on so that he could meet someone who could give him children. I really doubt that in the end they'd have Ruby and William together. Maybe for a brief period since she had a crush on him before (back in S2). But I think she's moved on, too. She wants to see William with Julia.

I have got more into American TV shows so I call them seasons but I suppose we would say "the entire series" or "the programme" I'm starting to think that Ruby has a thing for George because their chemistry is really obvious and he's like a little child when she's around and it's so cute!

I really can't see Ruby with William. For him it would be second-best, and a reminder of what he'd lost, while for Ruby, she would know she was second-best, and would be unable to accept that. (To say nothing of feeling like a traitor to her sister!)
I definitely can see George with Ruby - after all, they're both writers now! I think it would take a while to develop however.
I think someone else mentioned the possibility of Murdoch getting a pardon for his letting Ava Moon go. I can see that if the first case involved Terrence Meyers, and him looking for Murdoch to solve something he can't be involved with, finding him either suspended or dismissed, and getting the Prime Minister to pardon him so Murdoch can get back on the job. It's one method that ties in to season 4, doesn't involve any dream sequences, and doesn't require mental gymnastics.
Now, if the case then involved an American spy, who turned out to be Darcy, leading to his arrest and eventual death, that might involve more stretching of the imagination (although it would nicely kill two birds with one stone!)

Yeah, I've thought he and Ruby might be starting something since Future Imperfect in S3. She told Julia there might be someone new in her future but she wasn't sure yet. This was right after their little pseudo date in the park when he shared his caramel popcorn with her and she told him she wrote under a pseudonym. With the addition of Tess this season we should see some romantic misadventures for George in S5.
