Just a quick note to say hi to all. I've done a couple of other posts (which led to me finding season 7 for FREE on acorn.tv)! Thanks to Snacky and Lovemondays for that! Ok, I have a slightly offbeat shipper response: I want Dr. Bajjali to re-appear and challenge Julia for Murdoch's affections. Think of it-the dark and mysterious orient vs. the blonde and very "western" Julia:-) Both are women of great intellectual accomplishment, a good match for Murdoch's inventive mind. I plan to maintain this obnoxious opinion against all comers :-) Ooh, is it free-free or "trial month with credit card" free? I'm still trying to find a way to help my Mom see Season 7. Dr. Bajjali is a great suggestion for a returning character! I second that motion! I love seeing Western Protestant pretensions challenged by other religions, too. But noooooooooooooo to any threat to William: he's finally won Julia, and he's keeping her!!!! Now that Emily and George have broken up, Emily needs a date. >.>

Well, I had to supply acorn with a credit card number, but it said I could cancel. And after all, $5:00 isn't much for a whole season even if they do charge me.
Oh no! Crabtree and Emily break up? Well, maybe they will get back together. Hope so, anyway.

Lol, well I like the Crabtree / Emiliy relationship because it transgresses class boundaries in a wonderful neo-Marxist way. And Dr. Bajjali would do much the same from a post-colonialist perspective!

Lol, well I like the Crabtree / Emiliy relationship because it transgresses class boundaries in a wonderful neo-Marxist way. And Dr. Bajjali would do much the same from a post-colonialist perspective! Another thread has been discussing an episode in which a former fiance of Emily's claims he pulled her up from the "working class". This would put a whole new spin on Emily's attitude toward George. She, and perhaps her family, made sacrifices to transcend the working class: but she also doesn't believe herself to be innately "better" than the working class. I believe MM could have sold the Emily/George ship better if they had made more of Emily coming from this background. However, I don't think this necessarily would have been good for MM. The problem with this relationship already is it's basically a replay of Julia (high class)/William (self-made). Been there, done that. This relationship is a pale shadow. The far more interesting way of presenting Emily is as an independent woman (perhaps leaving the door open to her being a lesbian), and with the weird Wednesday Addams personality she was originally presented with. Giving her a "working class background" dilutes her original weird mysteriousness. I believe the writers realize this, and that's why they dithered both over providing Emily's backstory and over following through with the Emily/George ship. This writer ambivalence just left the audience confused and ambivalent. Just my two cents on what happened here.

Another excellent summary snacky. I bet you made a fortune writing essays for other people at university, lol!
The lesbian angle is very interesting. It would also make it plausible for George and Emily to regain the very amusing, creative aspect of their relationship, just without any sexual tension (not that there's been much, mostly romantic angst).
I'm rewatching Season 5 so I'm really seeing the Wednesday Addams weird, kind of macabre, persona.

I too like the lesbian idea. Hey, how about Julia exploring her sexuality a bit with a brief fling with Emily?

Well but Julia wouldn't have to leave William; she could just explore the third space. And who better than Emily? Wait, there's Minerva! Err, Charlotte. . .

LOL CosmicCalvalcade got into enough trouble with our Emily sapphism cause today as it is! It is so sad to see the bald baby avatar. If you request a subject, I'll provide you with a better one.

Wow! What a find on Acorn TV...all the episodes. I watched several Artful Detective episodes on Ovation tv on Direct TV. I couldn't understand things, because they never showed anything in order. So the Acorn TV find was fanatastic. I have all the seasons 1-7 DVD's, and can hardly wait for season 8. There is something so addictive about the series, and there are so many different story lines, that it is never boring! Yannick Bisson does a fantastic job, and I love all the repeat characters... James Pendrake, William's dad, James Gilles, etc. Come on S8 !
