I do love all the characters in the show but Julia has been my favorite from the start (maybe also because I love Hélène Joy's acting, she is really outstanding). She speaks her mind when most people don't want to hear it and about her humor in season 1, it is kind of morbid so maybe it is also her way to dissociate from being surrounded by death all the time (I have to admit that the scene in "Body double" with the skull cracked me up). I also like the fact as someone else said one time that she puts William out of his comfort zone and it does make for interesting scenes between them I was so happy to see her back and her storyline was so interesting because she is involved in a pretty scandalous subject for the time and she won't back down (at least I think she won't, I will have to see next week). I love her for those reasons, too. And I don't think she'll back down. I was actually mad at Darcy for manipulating her feelings as her husband to give up her goals in favor of his. Very typical of men at that time but makes him much less likable for me. I think she will regret letting him silence her, letting Emily down and will resent Darcy for asking her to give up her aspirations. He made it sound like once he was in charge at the hospital they could change things from the inside. But I doubt that will actually happen. You could see how wishy-washy he already was with the hospital board. He's not going to stand up to them enough to satisfy her.

Yeah, I think that's true that Julia was trying to make William laugh and forget about the pain of Liza's death. I just found her humor kind of lame, too. I think they had to start the show that way regarding Julia's humor because during the other seasons , u could see she was a more mature lady. She was getting older like any other characters and it was continuity for her to mature that way. If u listen to her now, she is a lot more subtle in her jokes and I suppose, it comes with time. If I watch season 1 , I would consider her more as a girl, but now I consider her more like a woman, if that makes sense. She started to become a real woman after season 1. Season 2 is showing her a more mature woman already except for a few bad jokes still but she was starting to become a lady and I like that. I really like the character of Julia in the show. She adds education on so many levels. She is teaching us forensic and I like her when she also becomes William sidekick as a detective like ep 2 season 5 with the 3D photo. Very interesting scene that one.

Julia will not come first when it comes to Darcy's career at stake. He made it clear. He seems to have a subtle way to blackmail people. He did it with to William when he learnt that Julia had a romantic relationship with him and now he is doing it to Julia. Hummmm , may be he is a subtle bastard who only wants what he wants and nobody else can have what they want!!!! lol

I know he was in a difficult position but if he won't support her, she will not be happy. I'm just afraid that once he's in a leadership position in the hospital, he'll be even less likely to stand up for her beliefs. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I think so too Hannikan. And when he said lets fight together. Well I dont think he is gonna have the time anyway to do so. Julia's princilples may become second to him and I don't think she will appreciate that. But , u know, I dont think it will go as far as that. I have the feeling that the relationship between Darcy and Julia will stop before all that happens. May be!!! We will find out soon enough I expect.

While I do want J/W to end up together, I do not want it to be "forced". By that I mean that I would feel somewhat cheated if Darcy and Julia's marriage were to break apart (whichever method they use: divorce, death, annulment) this season. I would prefer it if Darcy and Julia were to slowly drift apart ;Julia busy with her social causes and Darcy busy being part of the hospital establishment.

They can't just drift apart though. As we've talked about before, divorce like we know it today didn't exist. It was only allowed under extreme circumstances (abuse, adultery, women behaving in ways that were considered unacceptable for their sex). It couldn't just be an amicable parting of ways or mutually growing apart. You could only get a divorce if you could prove your spouse of extreme wrong doing. Julia has done many things that would be construed at the time as wrongdoing because it was seen as a threat to the "natural social order" for women to be political, challenge traditional religious beliefs (men weren't supposed to either), work outside the home when they were married, and so many other things that she does or espouses to publicly. If Darcy wanted to, it wouldn't be hard to bring her to court and accuse her of unsexing herself (not actually acting as a woman because of her "unfeminine" behavior) and not providing for his needs as a wife was by law commanded to. Remember this is still when wives were expected to obey their husbands, to be submissive to their husbands as if they were children. The ball is all in his court with this. It all depends on what he is willing to accept. At this point still, Darcy embraces most of Julia's traits but there is starting to be slight tension over her teaching of contraception that could (and I expect will) really explode in the future.

Yes, and I find it diffucult to understand why Darcy married or wanted to marry her so bad as he already knew about Julia's beliefs. U would have thought he may have been threatened by her behaviour when they were working together in Buffalo in the children hospital. Already there, she was showing how strongwill she was . I would have thought Darcy would marry someone quieter then if he wanted to be or stay the man in the house( like he shows he wants to be at the moment). He knew Julia was a doctor, so she is pretty intelligent . He knew she was opiniated from the start. I hope Julia carries on with all her beliefs and one day meet the man of her life who will support her no matter what!!! Hopefully William Murdoch because I also think they r really cute together, specially the way they look at each other. The chemistry is intense.

It's annoying obviously and William being so heroic in this episode with choosing her life instead of his it makes the situation a bit harder to swallow. But I have to say that putting the blame solely on Julia is a trend that has a tendency to unnerve me. I'm not happy with the situation the writers have left us with either but as some people commented she almost got hanged (less than 1 minute and that was it) plus Darcy got killed so she must feel guilt over it even if it is neither her fault or William. Give the woman a break. I love both characters even with their flaws as they are not perfect. People describing William as perfect or almost and deserving a better partner puzzle me I have to admit; he has made his own mistakes too but most of the time Julia takes the blame for everything that went wrong in their relationship and personally I don't think it's fair.

^ I agree, Barbara. And I also agree about Darcy's reaction to Julia. They didn't know each other that long, I guess (about a year by the time they married) and perhaps he didn't see that side of her as much as we have. Esp. if they worked in different depts of the hospital. It still seemed like he should have known that about her. But also men in those days expected even the most independent and strong-minded women to become happy being submissive to them and completely domestic-focused women after they married. I think he is supposed to represent that thinking, even though he was actually fine with her continuing to work. That to me suggests that they were not planning to have children any time soon. I don't think he would have been okay with her working after having a child. I don't even know how William would feel about that. It could very likely be a future plot.
