Ah good someone else has seen the ring!  Yes I certainly considered he could have been in a marriage of convenience, although considering how personal his conversation with Murdoch became when he admitted his homosexuality, I would have thought it to be mentioned.  And the ring seemed to come and go as far as I've been able to tell.  But it's TV, and as Christina Jennings mentioned in one of the panels, they don't really have long planning cycles for minor characters (Sally Pendrick was the topic I think).

I had assumed that Giles had entered into a marriage of convinience to hide his homosexuality.....he may have already been married when he had the affair......that certainly wasn't unheard of.......Oscar Wilde was married with a couple of children....

"Marriage of convenience" was my first thought, too - but that would seriously complicate his going to prison, and no one was bringing that up as a consequence of Giles's situation. Perhaps she sadly died at some point. Giles is not a spring chicken.

Agreed-the wife could have been a cover for this very ambitious man.
