Leslie Garland. Haha uh oh. I have a feeling he will be back. Maybe in the next episode too, judging by the preview. Emily was so crazily happy about the brain! Lol! She's so funny! By the way, here is a list of all the actors that have played two different roles on Murdoch Mysteries. murdochmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Recasted_Actors

**SPOILERS*** (taking no chances ) I enjoyed this episode a lot. I had a silly grin on my face when Murdoch laughed --- he laughed! ---while telling George about his special gear shift thing he developed and it was still when he chuckled smugly and kept on walking after telling Julia that Leslie was definitely too young for her.
Loved Julia in the morgue yet again, even if just visiting or mentoring. There was a vague thread of "age" or "experience" running through this episode. Chippy and his young racers. Julia mentoring Emily. Young Leslie Garland (who is up to no good, for sure) meeting William Murdoch and of course, Julia and William's chat at the end. Speaking of Leslie meeting William...that was a very looooong moment of silence when Julia didn't jump in to introduce them. And Garland's quick, curious look to Julia as she told William Leslie was going to stay at Darcy's house and water the garden...hmmm! Loved hyper-George and Kudos to Emily for finding type AB blood. William was obviously impressed and taken back by that. Loved the daggers Emily shot at George with her eyes when it was suggested she name it type D blood instead and George jumped on the bandwagon with William rather than support her decision. And for William who over-thinks everything and often needs time to respond to issues, he certainly can come up with some really smooth responses to Julia when she puts him on the spot (when she suggests that Leslie Garland is too young for her). He has learned to "manage" Julia. cool! Great episode.

Question: How did the killer know that his blood would kill? Blood typing was a very recent thing and even Emily didn't know that different types of blood sometimes don't mix.

Alrighty here are my impressions of this episode. Overall a strong one with a very good mystery to resolve and great interactions (Julia & Emily working together for example). The main problem for me is that I don't like watching or talking about cycling....I like practicing of course but being French my memories of the "Tour de France" are associated with boredom mostly considering that both my grandfathers were glued to the tv while it was on (3 weeks, every afternoon, in July) so we had to wait until it was over to do things more fun....and unfortunately this episode didn't help me to snap out of it, on the contrary every time they were talking about cycling, races etc... in my head I was like "please the next scene"....so it is a so so episode for me only due to my very specific experience. However there's a lot of things I did like. I loved seeing Julia & Emily working together to find out what caused the death...the brain thing was yucky but I'll get over it I also love when Emily said that Julia owes her lunch and that she will pick a very nice and probably pricey restaurant...loved Julia's face. The return of the creepy doctor from season 4 was great as well considering that they were doing researches on blood. The humour between Brackenreid saying he has bet on the wrong guy next to his corpse, and George experiencing second effect of what we could call "Red Bull" maybe was really funny. I know that the appearance of Leslie Garland is not good, I'm pretty sure he won't go after Julia but he's definitely a fishy character and I wonder what he will be about? I don't want to go back to angst though William & Julia have such a lovely relationship right now (as we saw in the last scene where they had a charming banter ) that I don't want anything or anyone to jeopardise that. So it was a good episode but won't be a favorite because of my antagonistic relationship with the "tour de France"

I watched this episode last night. Not bad. Although I too was a bit confused about how the killer would've known that switching blood would've resulted in death. I'm not sure if that was ever explained in the episode.
Although I haven't ridden in years, I think bicycles are cool. And William all hopped up on how excited his gearshift mechanism was, was great.
I laughed at the bit where the inspector catches George snoring at his desk.
And I do wonder where the L. Garland storyline may go.
This is the second time I've heard of Dr. Karl Landsteiner. Once here on MM, and once before, in "Dracula", with Keanu Reeves.
Given that Landsteiner's discoveries about blood-typing came out in 1900, they would've been pretty damn new when this episode is set.

yes it was amazing loved the last scene so much "William, i believe you're jealous." Julia "i am not jealous" William "he's a little bit young for me don't you think?" Julia "i don't believe that your beauty could be lost on anyone of any age. Julia..." William (gets all couply and cute)"fine answer, William" Julia "but he's definitely too young for you." walks away with a smile haha

I am loving the interaction between Julia and William this series. They are a joy to watch. I also love Julia is used more often and helps Emily at times, they have a good dynamic and I enjoy that friendship. Brackenreid and Murdoch, George and Higgins all too remain entertaining. The writers are spot-on with the interpersonal material so far.
My only complaint would be I still can't get into George/Emily. I just don't feel any chemistry between them. And their attempts at being cute or flirting fall very flat. I actually felt more spark when Higgins was trying it on with Emily in the last episode. This is one storyline I am left underwhelmed about.
As for the episode, it was interesting even if the killer was as always too easy to pick out. They do need to work on being more subtle about the killers. I continue to love the show though. I'm not sure what to make of Leslie Garland, other than I don't trust him and expect him to cause trouble for Julia.

Fun episode. I am glad we are back to a slightly more complicated mystery. Episode 1 was all about being on the ship, the ship sinking ect......
I for one think the Leslie Garland story line could be fun. Julia having to worry about a fun loving irresponsible brother in law who could end up being George's competition for Emily. I agree with Murchochic regarding George and Emily. They look more than brother and sister then potential lovers. William and Julia at the same stage of their relationship (S2 and S3) were bursting with chemistry. Those other two are not.
I do wonder though why Julia lied to William regarding the reason she was not selling the house. One would think after all they have gone through she would feel comfortable enough to tell him the truth. She did to Emily after all.
Julia in the morgue performing autopsies...wonderful. Writers why did you take her out of there? That is where she belongs. I feel the forensic story line is like those old airplanes: the plane leaves the ground for a few short seconds then drops to the ground again. The forensic psychiatrist idea never took off. It seems like a good idea, but now a 1.1 seasons later it is still not working. Write her back in the morgue. Have Emily and her have a similar relationship that William and George do. It would give us a girls/boys competition type story-line.

I tend to agree. Right now Julia doesn't seem to have a set position in the show. Dr. Grace is the pathologist, and everything that Dr. Ogden has turned her hand to doesn't seem to have amounted to anything at all. It's like she's drifting around, waiting for a wedding that might never happen. What does she do with her days??

It's like she's drifting around, waiting for a wedding that might never happen. What does she do with her days?? She is obviously still working. Her character is the one they can use to assist Emily, William or on investigations. She isn't drifting. She's helped with cases two episodes in a row. I have no problem with her being used both as a pathologist and a profiler. It means she gets to be in every case like the others.
