Emily is quite cold indeed as a person (for me anyway), and she said herself in season 5 that she didn't have "Bedside manners" for a doctor and probably enjoys it more that her "patients" can't speak anymore Julia can be opinionated and stubborn from time to time but you can see how much she cares not only about William, but her work, patients and people in general…I definitely can't say the same with Emily Oh, of course Julia isn't perfect either. But overall she is more outwardly caring as a character. Emily is, like you said, quite cold at times. This latest episode just illustrated that well. The women definitely have contrasting natures in some ways. Though of course Brakenreid and Higgins are insensitive and have a lack of compassion at times as well. It's not just an Emily thing. Whereas Julia and George are very caring characters. William is caring, but can also be a little emotionally aloof sometimes.

i'm glad to know that i'm not the only one to find emily sometimes "annoying" i have the feeling she was there to replace Julia in season 5 and that's why i don't really care for her. She seems a cold person but maybe i'm wrong.. Back to the episode! this was one of the best for me so far.. the moments between william and julia were so touching! We are far from the passion i would like to see but it's better that nothing. It was also interesting to see Julia in her work and to see her deal with all the difficulties! she's really a strong woman and i admire her for that. She never gives up!

As I have stated before, I quite like Emily, but i think I enjoy her because of the situations and reactions she creates in the characters around her. However i did think she was being a tad harsh on George. She was trying to prove to all the 'blokes' that she is as tough as them in my opinion. I get the feeling that Emily is trying hard to prove herself, and as many young people do, thinks that an outward show of confidence and brashness will exude that confidence. Being a women in a male dominated profession would only make this trait worse and coupled with her poor bedside manner, no wonder she comes over as annoying. I hope the writers also softened her character over time and that she is seen to learn some of those life lessons. I wonder what Julia was like as a young doctor.

I'm rather glad that Emily is harsher and cold-hearted, at least in comparison to Julia. The two characters already have too much in common, and I always like it when Emily develops her own defining characteristic. It makes her more individual, as a character, and slightly more interesting... though I can't say these personality traits of her endear her to me. Her absolute glee when dissecting and examining bodies also differs to Julia; I feel Julia was more aware that the body before her was actually once a person.
I agree with Barbarama- Emily's entrance did seen to be solely to replace Julia and provide George a love interest. I absolutely hate that when it happens, as it most times feels forced.
Did you guys notice that Emily and Murdoch seem to be getting on better? They were smiling and laughing together, at one point.
I grieved for Webster. His death was sad! Dammit, Brax! XD

At this point Emily and Murdoch should be getting on better. They all should. She's been around over two years.
And no, I can't say her cold blooded glee at cutting up bodies endears her to me. But she's not a bad person, just insensitive in some ways.

Exactly why I've always found her creepy. I mean did you see the way she was looking at that severed arm from MAN? If she went nuts, she's the type that would turn into Hannibal Lector. Correction, it didn't seem so, it WAS so. The actress who played Ruby stopped doing the show for whatever reason and so they had to find a replacement for George. Well they didn't HAVE to but they did anyway. I will never stop being annoyed about Ruby not being on the show anymore! There would have been so many good storylines with that! Ruby would have taken over for Glynn and would have always been trying to get the inside scoop from George and she'd show up unannounced at crime scenes and it would have been so funny! Instead we got creepy miss creepster. As long as she doesn't convert him to the dark side, or that his smile gets creepy like hers, I'm okay with this. Sadly, I bet the majority of people watching liked this moment because they hate spiders.

She is my hero. So William, let's get going eh!! You had better not let her get away again! Emily was pretty rough this episode, but then it seemed everyone, to some degree, was being rough on Julia. Makes me wonder what the writers are plotting next.

I liked this episode, probably in my top three so far of the season. It was a little darker, being written by Maureen (I tend to find her episodes darker) but the ending was very sweet. Am I the only one around here who actually likes Emily? I think she has her own persona and even if that makes her cold and perhaps rude at times, I still enjoy her every time she appears. Although I do admit her relationship with George is a little forced.

I do actually like Emily, I just don't like G/E and I find her a bit insensitive and callous at times. But then so is Brackenreid and Higgins, and I like them too.

Oh! Webster! His spider was named WEBster! It was a pun, of sorts, with spiders and webs.... ahahahaha!
...okay, I'm a little slow, but I got there in the end.

But his excuse is he is a science teacher who used to do dissection all the time. I got a kick out of the scene in Murdoch of the Living Dead when she was confronted by one of the brain damaged men and sternly told him to "unhand her" and then stabbed him with her hat pin. Sometimes the character can be a little rough, but I just think that is how she feels she has to be. As for George and her, well that seems to have stalled just as much as Julia and William. Kind of frustrating, but I think the writers have something up their sleeves. They had better!

Considering how long the show has been stalling W/J over the seven series, I doubt G/E will have a proper relationship anytime soon. They haven't progressed since late S5. At all.

I find that having the "Emily" on the scene has served a dual purpose. (1)Her girl-talk chats with Julia about personal matters allows us to know what is going on in Julia's mind since they are topics she wouldn't discuss with William. With Rose no longer on the scene they may have found this as another way for us to know Julia's thoughts on William, Darcy, marriage, etc. (2) Prior to Emily, I always thought of Julia as being the blunt one who said what's on her mind and made some of the others a bit uncomfortable. Then came Emily, younger and even less shackled by the mores of the day. Oddly, to me the Inspector doesn't seem to be bothered by Emily as much as he was by Julia's speaking her mind. Maybe he's just resigned to having women in the workplace now! I'm not sold on the G/E relationship but I think they said they wanted to show a budding simple, happy relationship in comparison to all the drama that had become William and Julia's so-called love life. Having a "couple B" may also pave the way for them to bring the William and Julia arc to marriage while not leaving the show without a little romantic thread woven in (but I'm not saying W & J's marriage would not be romantic!!!) But there was something about William's chat with Emily in the morgue in this episode that really got under my skin and I'm not sure why (the one where she talked about thinking she was afraid of the water). Something is changing ever so slightly about the way in which he regards her. Can't put my finger on it......

G/E aren't romantic though, they're unrealistic and cringey. That's the problem.
William probably just understands her better these days. TBH I don't think those two have a good dynamic. They should have a better one by now considering how long they've worked together. But William is very standoffish with her. He isn't so much with all the others.
