Friday the 13th, 1901 Julia and Emily go to a bachelorette party; Murdoch and the boys get involved in a high stakes curling match. Hope no one gets hurt in the curling match! And William can think about Where It All Went Wrong while working off some steam instead of pining in his room like he did for the last proposal-fail. I wonder what the weekly mystery is...? I just got the horrible idea that William will encourage Julia to fake her own death (ala Anna Fulford) and go into hiding so she will stay safe until "Gillies is found".

Well, on the plus side, I learned what not to do if on a secluded island with an axe-murderer. I also learned some general safety rules to abide by.
1.) For god's sake, don't let your friend go swimming by herself, in the wilderness, in THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.
2.) DON'T SPLIT UP, ESPECIALLY IF THERE'S A MURDERER. SAFETY IN NUMBERS. GOOD LORD. I LEARNED THIS IN FIRST GRADE, AND THERE WEREN'T EVEN ANY MURDERERS IN THE EQUATION.
3.) SUSPECT EVERYONE AND TRUST NO ONE.
Okay, the last one's a joke. Kinda. But seriously.... why?

Can't wait to watch this. The Canadian audience looks thrilled to pieces!
Not sure if the prospect of Julia with a cigar, Julia with a shotgun, or all the guys in tam o'shanters wins...

Waw. Where is the discussion?
I really enjoyed this episode. I'm sure there will be enough celebration of Jilliam, William-angst, and the camaraderie of Station House 4. (Though I have to agree with whoever said it's time for William to get rid of the Cursed Ring).
What I wanted to say is that I also enjoyed the little continuities. I loved the allusion to Victor/Victorian and the general idea that prim Victorian women would indulge in male "privileges" on the sly. The cigars are just fun, and perhaps a bit Freudian (as Julia is soon to find out). I was also glad that Julia and Emily belong to a woman's suffrage league - that always seemed like something they should be doing, and I've been surprised that hasn't been a more overt part of the show. If I remember correctly, women in the US went on hunger strikes in jail - which would demand the involvement of doctors.
I was also thrilled that the mention of George's Freemason rank finally came up again. I've been waiting for this wrench in the "natural order of things" to come up again. It was hilarious that Brackenreid's uncouth language cost him his place as top dog yet again. It's interesting that he has mastered the politics of the police inspector job (when to curse and throw punches vs. when to suck up to the toffs), dresses sharply and enjoys the opera - yet he can't comport himself as a gentleman in casual social settings.
I thought everyone - guys and gals alike - provided some wonderful insights into their characters. We even know Henry will accept a free beer from anyone! The women stepped up with shotguns, and the men showed how a good game brings out the best in their character.
One note on Jilliam - I hope we're in on the Gillies conversation. That cannot take place off stage! It would also be a good excuse for some comfort canoodling. *hint hint*
Ps. William finally got to challenge at least one Garland for the girl!!!

Oh my goodness such a creepy and funny episode to come back to after this long wait. The curling part was really amusing and it was nice to see the team backing George up…but calling Leslie Garland a gentleman…hum I'm not so sure that he is actually. Now for Julia & Emily, sooooooo creepy I didn't think it will have such a "slasher feeling" but it was awesome..I don't think I've been this scared watching a Murdoch episode before. Nice to see the ladies handling themselves quite brilliantly and I'm glad that Julia confided in Emily, hopefully she will follow her advice and tell everything to William. That Gillies' shadow of doom has to finish for good and the sooner the better. So glad to see Murdoch back at last even if we have only 4 new episodes left.

sooooooo creepy I didn't think it will have such a "slasher feeling" but it was awesome..I don't think I've been this scared watching a Murdoch episode before. Maybe my American sensitivities have been deadened to gore-fests, but I didn't think the episode was as bloody as those who saw it first made it sound. I thought the murders were rated PG as always - almost symbolically, with an emphasis on the puzzle presented rather than an occasion for necrophiliac pornography. I like the fact that Leslie is being presented as a gentleman: as George said, that just makes things worse. The show has found a good balance between maintaining Leslie as a suspect and making the viewers question those suspicions. Has Leslie really done anything wrong yet besides flirting with Emily? I cracked up at Higgins' remark about Leslie being too pretty for a man. Really, the same could be said of William, especially when he was younger. No man has a right to those eyelashes! That remark also made me wonder how Higgins' and "the lads" really feel about William. Perhaps they are willing to overlook his less manly (by Victorian standards) aspects because his methods work and he helps them win at baseball. Or do they joke about his "tennis swing" when William is out of earshot...?

Poor Julia and William. They are heartbroken. I hope this sorts itself out quickly. And poor George, he's hurt as well. Emily didn't seem to care about breaking up with George. Julia looked terrible, but she's having loads of fun.
It was nice to have more of Higgins. And watching the guys play Curling while the girls got the action. Very suspenseful episode. I guessed the killer easily but it was still a great watch. The girls can look after themselves really well. I love that.
The Curling parts were funny. I'm happy George etc technically bettered Garland. Even if George let him have the win. Don't trust Garland, William. Great episode.

They don't normally get that violent. It was kind of like a period slasher movie lol. The head on the tray was gory.
