I was really taken aback that he refused Julia's invitation to see her father, it is kind of an important introduction no?!!! Poor Julia, William has no sense whatsoever of priorities.

I still think William feels extremely disempowered by all the proposal-fails in an era where it's proper form for the men to propose. When Julia pushes like that, she's taking over the process. William's trying to get back in charge of the proposal.

I don't think that money or his social class is a problem for William. Indeed, he proposed Julia twice (Ok, the first time, he just imagined how he would do his proposal but he wanted to marry her and if he didn't miss the train... aaarrrgh! And the second time, Julia couldn't accept... They are cursed!) and he even dreamed of the wedding ceremony in the sixth season and to finish -and more important-, he encouraged George to go through the class and financial gap when this later wanted to court Emily. How can he ignore his own advice? It's also true that Ruby told Julia that their father could be against their marriage but I think he couldn't prevent it even if he wanted to. Remember what William said to Julia: "Together, we are stronger than anyone". Moreover, Julia is very stubborn. A last thing: perharps Inspector BRACKENREID still has some scotch! If you count William having the ring in his hand during Buffalo Shuffle, I count three attempts! I think his advice to George was partly the argument he was using to convince himself, but he's not so sure about it: it's manly to be confident, though. I can't remember when Ruby told Julia that their father would be against her marrying William, but I do see that as a concern lurking in the background - as much because William is Catholic as because he's an upstart from the vulgar classes. In the Kissing bandit, Julia said to her sister that their father would be just relieved to see finally her married off and to whom would be a detail. And then Ruby made reference to the statut of the detective of William if Julia had chosen to marry him instead of Darcy.

Ruby has always seemed like a big supporter of William, though.

I've just watched this episode, it was interesting. Not much of a build up to the finale on Monday but I can't wait anyway Wish they would sort out Julia & William and George & Emily

1. I couldn't remember the mystery in this episode very well because I just think of Julia and all the scandalous ankle she's flashing William in his office 2. No way William was so clueless to not know Julia was practically begging for him to ask. I liked Snacky's idea that he was going to ask but the bomb put a halt to his plan. 3. Thank goodness George is no fool and left Emily on the curb. 4. I've always thought it odd that William seemed just fine after a fall from that high. 5. Before this episode I had always thought Henry had been interested in Emily just because he was trying to make George mad. He really seemed sincere about it in this episode. I wonder if we'll ever see Henry in a relationship. I don't need it but they might push that now that George had a big story with his.
