LOL - I vote for that being the secret! I'm fine with that. I have no problem with it personally-I'm just wondering how it will reconcile with his 7 years at a logging camp. Those two things don't really go together... I have a hard time seeing him doing 7 years at a logging camp. I know that's how the timeline works out but I'm thinking that his time as a ranch hand maybe came between the logging camp and the constabulary. However, in Glass Ceiling he said someone at the camp had done a stint as a constable and it sounded interesting so I think the writer's have really screwed things up. This is where you have to suspend disbelief.

lovemondays - this is the good part of "angst" plots. Nooooo, no scolding! William is suffering enough as it is! She's definitely going to scold him-but then once he's been told how much he's scaring her, and he's got to change, then she'll kiss it better. She might tell him to quit whining like a child while hold a very large syringe.

Those two things don't really go together... Well, we still have to figure out where all the hot logging camp lasses came from...

Here is a random thought. What if William's secret is that he has more money than Julie. Say he inherited money from a distant relative back in the old country and he has maybe even got a title like the Earl of Strathearn. Random I know. Then that would explain where the top hat and tux came from and why William can suddenly afford to take Julia to a French restaurant! Maybe he's related to the historical inventor William Murdoch!

Quite true-they can silence each other with a kiss. However, I think William throwing himself into his work as he always has is going to be a big issue between them. In rewatching Season 3 with eclair, it's really annoying how the relationship gets dropped for a few episodes at a time. But that's how I figure the wedding could be delayed. We didn't get to This One Goes to Eleven.

It's pretty hard to imagine William running around as a constable and getting all tough in keeping the peace! I wonder if the "historical" ep will show him in uniform?

We didn't but the timeline has a 7 year gap between leaving school and joining the constabulary. We know he was at a logging camp and we know he spent time as a ranch hand, we just don't know how long he did either. I believe it goes back to his days between his mother dying and going to logging camp from what Christina Jennings said.

It seems like William should have done some time in some mechanical/electrical/chemical manufacturing apprenticeship in order to buff up his technical skills. He got his powers of analysis from the Jesuits, but he got his skills with instrumentation and and gear from elsewhere.

Julia deserves a man of practiced dexterity.

Apart from me and judging by the small number of reponses to my thread "in waiting for the answer", you are the one to think that it could be the secret of William. But it doesn't mean that we are wrong. To be continued. Because you want a simple answer for a complex question! I don't necessarily want a simple answer but just an answer.

Julia can not let him put himself at risk so -yes!- she will scold him. And William will just have one way to stop Julia scolding him. The same way that she tried to use to stop him preventing her from going to a public protest before they were interrupted by Inspector SLORACH. Kissing her! Quite true-they can silence each other with a kiss. However, I think William throwing himself into his work as he always has is going to be a big issue between them. You're probably right and I also think William will use his work to avoid confrontations with Julia until he can't get round her. Maybe Inspector BRACKENREID will can give him some advices... I say "advices" and not "drinks". I don't want MURDOCH become an alcoholic.

There's a countdown to the season 8 premiere on Facebook! They asked us if we have missed CRABTREE and Dr GRACE. CRABTREE, YES! Dr GRACE, I would be a liar if I said "yes" so no comments.

It's strange since he has had so much tension in his own marriage. Maybe it comes from his appreciation of the theater and opera...? Anyway, William usually takes Brackenreid's advice.
