Here is a random thought. What if William's secret is that he has more money than Julie. Say he inherited money from a distant relative back in the old country and he has maybe even got a title like the Earl of Strathearn. Random I know. Then that would explain where the top hat and tux came from and why William can suddenly afford to take Julia to a French restaurant! Maybe he's related to the historical inventor William Murdoch! What a genius idea! That would be wonderful! As a matter of fact it explains how he knew to mine for gold when he went to the Yukon. Brilliant

Yes it is, Snacky and it would be such a wonderful jaw-dropping moment when it was revealed. Come to think of it, I cannot remember a time when Julia's money was ever an issue with William, but I am not as familiar with the series as most of you are. It would explain a lot. They really should hire us to write an episode.

I've looked at the timeline on the MM fb page, it's wrong according to the show and as far as I'm concerned the show is canon. Yes I too thought 7 years as a lumberjack/ranch hand was a long time, though I like your reasoning on the manual labour. I was thinking it would be more like 3 years however that's how the timeline works out and it is poor backstory. This is the MM fb page, it's open: www.facebook.com/MurdochOnCBC. I don't care what they've got on the page, much of it is different from the show and as the page is run by someone probably at CBC and maybe not even a fan. I'll take what I see on the show, even when it doesn't make sense. I was scanning through Glass Ceiling last night and I came across William's interview with CC Stockton. He said he spent two winters in a logging camp. Now, where did he spend the other 5 years?? Some of them must have been as a ranch hand unless he did that in the summer and logging camp in winter. The writers have a lot of time to fill in....

Brilliant Though it's termed 'placer mining' they were actually panning for gold which isn't difficult to learn. We panned in the river behind our property when we lived in BC however we didn't do it seriously. There were actually some claims on the river further downstream though.

You can read in the caption on Facebook: Murdoch marches with the boys in blue in just 5 days! Could they marche faster?

Throwing the Virgin Theory to the wind, perhaps he was the kept man of a wealthy New Brunswick widow~

Throwing the Virgin Theory to the wind, perhaps he was the kept man of a wealthy New Brunswick widow~ Here's the summary of Shipwreck: In 1873, a storm wrecks a ship on the rocks near a tiny fishing village in Nova Scotia. The people in the village, including the parish priest and young Will Murdoch, bravely work to save the ship's crew. Found in the shipwreck is a rich young woman with a newborn baby-and a terrible secret. With the help of the priest, young Will discovers the truth. It's a short story/novella that was written as part of an adult literacy project.

I really don't think the ads refer to anything in particular, I think they're just a tease to get us going.

When I see this picture, it makes me wish there was an alternative video version with a constable flash mob dance.

When I see this picture, it makes me wish there was an alternative video version with a constable flash mob dance. I think that totally needs to be an extra either for the DVD or web special. Too bad it'll probably never happen.
