William and Julia won't be separated tragically. They are the kind of TV relationship you can be sure will end the show together. The producers themselves admitted they couldn't keep using tricks to keep them apart. I have a feeling S8 could be the last anyway.

I'm not sure Helene was hiding her ring finger on purpose. She's going to have to work really hard to be hiding that hand the entire filming season. It will be almost as hard as trying to hide Brackenreid. Too true!

Marriages is Catholic Churches:
There was a big redo of canon law in 1917 called the Pio Benedictine law that tried to justify all the contradictions that existed in the law at the time. I do not know if it changed any laws pertaining to marriage, but today a non Catholic can marry a Catholic in a Catholic wedding. He/She must provide a certificate of baptism and agree to raise any children in the Catholic Church.
I hope to goodness that that bride is not Julia and that is not her wedding dress. What a disaster. Dear Lord! I like the idea someone posted about Julia wearing a gown that was more Art Nouveau in style or even on the lines of a Worth gown. Besides, nothing Julia wears is poofy.
I will happily join the Revolution if William and Julia are not married at the end of Season 8. And I have to say that I disagree that their marriage means the beginning of the end for the series. Their love affair is not the only glue holding the show together. Fans enjoy most of the characters and if the writers are smart they will enlarge the parts of the supporting cast.
I enjoyed the two part episodes "The Black Hand" and that had several arcs including the one about the baseball game and picnic. Why not show George doing whatever it is he does when he's not working. William could even draft him into helping build some contraption or other at his home. What about the Brackenreids? Their marriage could be featured in a few episodes every now and again. That would give us a chance to see Thomas and Margaret at home and maybe with the boys. one episode and we could, it is to be hoped, see Thomas more relaxed and Margaret a little more flirty. I see potential there.
William needs a serious talking to. The man is a bundle of angst. I would like Jasper to tell his big brother a few home truths, because Jasper is so much like William, but I think he just might be a little freer in is attitudes towards sex.
Do those of you in Canada know when S8 will air?
Thanks Last item first MrsB!---no word on a specific date for the new season but early October has been "put out there" as a possibility by the MM insiders. Republic of Doyle starts Oct 8 so that seems quite possible. Early Oct would be a little later than usual (usually mid to late Sept for fall season shows) but I'll take it. There may be a special sport event for CBC the end of Sept??? Re: Catholic laws (yes, thanks for your input on that) - I haven't been able to pin anything down to 1902 specifically either so I've decided the researchers on the show probably have done their homework well and what will be will be Which bride to you hope Julia isn't? There's been a few bride pics floating around in the last day or so! Are you talking about the one showing a bride sitting on the church steps? That dress was crazy poufy but it didn't look at all like Julia either. That was taken in Toronto last Friday or so and we're not sure what's going on there...possibly a dream sequence? (or nightmare depending on your POV I guess!) This show isn't about William and Julia per se so I too, think it should be fine when they get married. Heaven knows there's plenty of tension within many a new marriage!) I also hope we see more of the Brackenried's this season. If he is recovering, they can explore the affect that has on him and on their marriage. There's still lot's of areas to explore with W&J within the marriage especially with her involvement in woman's rights/voting etc. while William is likely taking on a heavier load at the station with the Inspector not 100%. All eyes will be on him if he's made acting Inspector (since he's Catholic) and it's possible Julia's protests, and woman's rights issues, etc. concern him as he tries to prove he can do the job while his wife is ruffling feathers all over town. Yes William is always full of angst about something...he's rarely relaxed. Hopefully, having a more normal home life and the promise of a family (adopted or otherwise) will smooth him out a bit. For the constables and the station, the world is changing...more cars on the roads = car accidents. Policing methods and manpower might be stretched beyond what they were accustomed to. There's all sorts of things they can explore along with all the usual investigations/mysteries!

I have a feeling S8 could be the last anyway. Could it be you have that feeling because William and Julia are getting married, so it feels like "the case is closed"? MM is extremely popular in Canada. I don't think S8 will be the last season unless bad writing and a plot going nowhere kills it. If the writers leave the impression the marital state has brought progress in the relationship to a screeching halt, and the shipper viewership gets bored en masse, then, yes, this could be the last season. I can envision CBC bigwigs shaking their heads around a conference room table and wondering what the heck happened. I think the writers can get away with in-marriage hijinks for at least one season, especially with the fertility season. After that they will need some tragic separation of William and Julia to go on. Please don't kill me guys, it's the truth.

LOL - nightmare sequence! I totally forgot to thank MsBrisby for giving me something to look up - the Worth dress! I do agree that MM has so many possibilities to explore for its weekly mystery plots: the period it covers isn't often done on TV. However, I do think it will run into a problem with the focus being overwhelmingly on the central character (MURDOCH mysteries), despite the ensemble cast. I don't think any other character will be able to draw campaign strength OTP. But I don't think the marriage will necessarily kill MM, either. I just think that now is a very tricky point for the writers: we need to appreciate that, and I hope the writers handle it well. I'd like to see MM carry on for many seasons to come!

No, I have the feeling because 8 seasons is a long time for any show. There's only so long they can come with storyline ideas each week.

No, I have the feeling because 8 seasons is a long time for any show. There's only so long they can come with storyline ideas each week. Since MM only runs at half seasons compared to American shows, it's less than 5 seasons long by American standards, and therefore should be young and thriving in terms of ideas unless the OTP loop closure kills it! Also the historical format is an automatic feeder of ideas because there are always "events" happening in history to feed and nurture the MM creative staff. MM is also set in a period of history that hasn't been "done" too much on TV, so the stories will seem a little fresher just because of that. There is the problem of the actors getting older, contracts getting more complicated, compensation going up according to experience and success of the show, etc. - these factors probably put MM in peril every year. On the other hand, since it is an older cast that may be seeking stability in their lives, perhaps that makes MM a little safer? Well, there's no way the audience can know. We can only hope all the parties involved can arrive at a fair deal. But this is the piece that would kill MM, not how "long" it has been running: MM is young in terms of episodes. It took 8 seasons to get to episode 100! Those slackers! Is that a banana in your pocket or are you just glad to see us, Yannick?

They don't run half a season anymore. The 18 episodes per season is a lot of work. If S8 is the last then it's been a very good run.

They only started the episodes in Season 7, and an American season can be up to 26 episodes. If you count all the episodes together so far it's less than 5 seasons in American terms, that would be "30 in dog years". Goooooood Puppy!

Hi carco
I am referring to the picture with the bride sitting on the stairs.
Has anyone else noticed how relaxed William is with Anna? When he was in Bristol he was actually normal and didn't seem to have any sexual hang-ups with her as I recall and in "A Walk on the Wild Side" he was very matter of fact about their relationship. The scene where they had dinner together appeared as though they were in either his rooms and they seemed so natural together. In a way they were a much better as a couple, but then we wouldn't have the "dramatic tension" to deal with.
Yes, the early twentieth century brought a lot of change in a very short period of time, and the police would have to deal with that in their personal lives as well as their professional lives.
All in all there is plenty of fodder for the series to draw from.
(I mistakenly referred to these episodes as The Black Hand in a previous post.) Why is that the case, I wonder?

I had another thought about the dress: perhaps it really is a "shotgun wedding" with William and Julia taking advantage of a minister willing to marry them - so Julia has to borrow a dress of some sort? The carriage could be borrowed from the other wedding. Regarding William's comfort with Anna vs. tension with Julia, the difference between these two looks really bothers me. William's come hither look to Anna: Credit: 22OntarioStreetWilliam's strange look at Julia after She Calls: Credit: 22OntarioSteetThe responses in the comments to this look are all over this place: "let's do this thing" (determined), "you can see how much he wants...", "contemplating murder", "wonderful!", like he's going to "make her mind once and for all" ( !!!!!) When I first saw this scene, the first word that came to my mind was "gobsmacked", and perhaps even that William was a bit worn out with it all after so many kisses that episode. Like the audience, he was long past ready for some progress in this relationship! This also kind of reminded me of the ambiguity of Julia's expression during the clay modeling scene in Loch Ness Murdoch. Upon watching the scene again (and again and again) looped in gif form, William does look a little more determined. However, one has to wonder what he is so determined about. Julia has been throwing herself at him. All he has to do to make progress is pop the question. Nothing is getting in the way of the relationship at that point but himself. This might go back to the point I was making in my other threads about William waiting for an engraved invitation. Perhaps William looks so determined because he's waiting for some cue from Julia, and despite all her open flirtation, she's not sending him the most important cue of all - the one that would open the door for him to propose...? Why else would he look like he needs to draw on all his courage to go on?

William's come hither look to Anna: Credit: 22OntarioStreetWilliam's strange look at Julia after She Calls: Credit: 22OntarioSteetThe "bride on the steps" filming in Toronto last week was hinted at being a "dream seqence" so probably not the J/W wedding (which appears to have been shot in Cambridge this week. I'm guessing that was not the real thing - or at least not the W& J real thing. By the way there's a new pic on Tumblr (try DrowningInChoc) a front view of Julia in the background...white dress, high neck, long sleeves..... IMO, the come hither look with Anna was human William responding with normal male responses. He lost his memory so he also lost all William's usual uptight inhibitions and restraint. He was just being a guy. The girl was pretty, she saved his life, she was very sweet and nice. By the same token I thought the look with Julia was in response to her response to his comment. They had been talking about the case and William comments that "a woman in love can be quite tenacious. At which point Julia turns out the lights and says "Yes they can" . She's really saying to him "Yes, I'm a woman in love and I can (be quite tenacious)." They'd already had several kisses in the episode so both are feeling a little "frisky" and William's look seems to be a kind of "Julia, you need to stop, you're killing me here." That's the way I read it...just my wishful thinking maybe but it works for me! I should add that Julia's look as he came towards her indicated she knew exactly what she was doing. She's messing with his head and enjoying every minute of it.

It's possible that all the weddings in that episode are dream sequences of some sort with various things going wrong. D: That dress still looks like Anne of Green Gables hand-me-down to me. >.< I like you're interpretation of the "tenacious scene" ("you're killing me here" - hahahaha ), but I don't understand why Julia would be such a tease to the poor guy. Why is she messing with William's head? Is this the way to get him to propose, or does she just enjoy what she's doing to him?
