Hee! I was actually thinking in the Beyoncé sense. I suspect that Julia isn't 100% enamored of marriage, and she'd be perfectly happy just shacking up. But, she's found her boy, and he's a traditionalist, so if she wants to hit it ( and get that tie/leash off) she's going to have to put a ring on it. I don't listen to enough pop music to know the Beyonce reference, but putting a leash on one of those Prince Albert thingies could be painful. It did sound like part of the reason Julia was so desperate for William to propose in Season 3 was because of her father and the sense of encroaching Spinsterism. Now she's Been There, Done That. She's free to live as she would like, and some would even say it's in bad taste for her to remarry. So circumstances have changed for Julia. William, on the other hand, almost lost Julia because he didn't propose before. So now he's going to capture that flag before it gets away again. It's a good thing it's happening soon, because clearly she was wearing him down with all her "tenacity". Really? How can you walk this planet and not be familiar with Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)? I absolutely agree with your assessment about marriage in season 3, she felt the pressure to settle down, so to speak, but now that she's the far more socially acceptable widow, the pressures off. She tried it, and she can't say that it was a great experience. But William hasn't married, and for him, it's a big deal. And he's absolutely going to capture that flag this time-out of all his proposals, he's still to make it to the altar, and he's a little self-conscious about it I think. She's wearing him him down, because he's finding it harder to keep telling her no, I think. Dark!William wants to hunt her, and it's getting harder and harder to subordinate him to good!William.

I have some unusual medical problems hahaha. I can only listen to some types of music. *hugs CC's taste in music* I was about to say marriage wasn't as big a deal for William, but actually it is, as a social marker of the "proper middle class". William has remained the "odd man out" rather than graduating to full capacity adulthood by remaining unmarried. And the only reason he's been holding out is because he refuses to marry anyone else but Julia. Maybe that's why his proposals have been so nervous: not just because he was proposing to Julia, but because that step itself would mean so much to him and his prospects...? His Bachelor status probably held him back as much as his Catholicism all these years. Isn't it interesting he dated other women to "show Julia" when they were fighting, but stopped dating all together when Julia went to Buffalo and married another man. William just didn't care anymore after he couldn't have her. I'm very interested in Dark!William, ever since William mentioned his resistance to "dark places" in In the Altogether. The fact he considered "cheeky postcards" a "gateway drug" to "dark places" was LOL (though Julia found this unfunny). Anyway, that made me wonder what a "dark place" was for William. It can't just be nookie outside of marriage because he indulged in Green Muse. On the other hand the "inappropriate looking" is probably "dark place" territory. I'm entertaining a theory that the Good Woman (Mommy or the Wife) is what puts a stamp of approval on Divine Love, will "dark places" are anything that Mommy/Wife don't approve of.

It will make my fandom year if MM writers pick up on this and have Julia whip off the tie first thing after they are over the honeymoon suite threshold. I still suspect William's kind of afraid of what Julia will do with it, though. *snaps tie* The newlyweds walked into the royal suite at the Queens Hotel and Julia heard the door click with a suddenly chilling finality. Things would never be the same between them ever again after tonight. Thank God. As Julia heard the lock slide into place, she turned around to face her husband. William had an inscrutable look on his face, as though he were struggling with some inner conflict. His dark eyes bored into her soul, and Julia shuddered for just a moment. She'd wanted William to take her to his dark places for ages, had fantasized about what those places would be like, but now that moment was here. But was she ready? Well, there was only one way to find out. She he reached for his tie, and this time, he made no move to stop her. He just continued to stare deep into her eyes as she removed the tie tack and deftly undid the tie. She held both ends of the tie in her hands and subtly nodded to him, giving her consent for what great and dark thing was about to happen. Then, she pulled the tie from his collar, and as she was about to drop it to the floor, he pounced. Um, yeah, I believe I'll stop it there before it gets too smutty.

Perhaps William is so exhausted from worry that Julia has so much pent up sexual frustration that he won't be able to fend her off if she pounces first? William better hope she doesn't get ahold of that tie.

Hi everyone! We all know that William wants to have children and Julia is not or at least seems not opposed to the idea. But if they had one and only one child, would you prefer they have a boy OR a girl? I don't want to put a cart before the horse but I'm just curious to know your opinion. A last thing! Play the game. Do not tell "both" or twins -a boy AND a girl- because I said "one and only one child". Yeah...I'd like to apologize for hijacking your cute and cuddly thread about babies and dragging it off topic. It's unintentional, but I'm afraid I'm rather good at it.

Perhaps it's an antiquated bias, but I think women/girls just confound him as well. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't dislike them, but I suspect they make him nervous -much like the butterflies. He doesn't have heaps of experience with them, and probably had limited exposure to them growing up-save for the strait laced nun. He loves Julia, wants to be with her, but she does have to direct him. A daughter would confound him-I think he'd love her, but he'd be at a loss with her. Mother and daughter would own him in every sense. My thoughts exactly . I think he leans towards wanting a boy because he just has never even considered a girl-child. With his mother dead when he was 8 and then being shipped off to a boys school then as a lumberjack (still can't picture that!) that separated him from his sister, he has a very limited knowledge of 'girls/woman'. Hah! had to chuckle at your last comment....just picturing him leading the life of Yannick in a house with 4 women Yep poor will needs a boy. Having said all that, as much as I want them to get married, I'd rather not see a child come into the picture but I guess one begets the other. I can't believe I'm saying this, but they've survived with Mr. B having a family because we very rarely see them. Once married, I think W & J's personal life probably needs to move more into the background for most episodes, too and let the show get back to police matters. Don't get me wrong, their relationship is my favourite part of the show but the real fun has always been about getting a hint of something personal going on in the background that the other characters aren't yet totally aware of.

Also, in one episode the Inspector asked him if he wanted to have children and William said he hoped "to have a son one day". I don't think he'd even know what to do with a daughter! Seriously. Probably he wants a little buddy to join him in all his inventions and science projects. Oddly, he doesn't seem to have considered at all, that Julia was probably very much into science and all that as a child, too. Any child they had would likely inherit those genes as it's so strong in both of them. It seems to be another example of William's narrow mindedness on some topics. An excellent point. I automatically thought "boy" but you've got me thinking. Perhaps one of William's reasons for wanting a son is so that he can "rewrite" his own feelings about father/son relationships. Harry gave him some food for thought when he said "I never hit my boy". Parenthood makes you look at your own relationship with your parents in a new way. Funny you should mention that. I've been wondering if part of William's big hang-up in life and the reason he is so buttoned-down all the time is he is afraid he could still become the man his father was/is. He grew up thinking his father was an alcoholic, a wife-beater and a useless low-life who abandoned his children (meeting Harry a few years back didn't change a whole lot about his view of him.)

Now that I think about it, perhaps it would be good for William to have a daughter against his expectations, and then be surprised and delighted by her. Look at how happy Yannick seems to be and how he turned out as a man. That's how I want men to be: content with their families, carrying out their responsibilities yet doing their own thing and having their own purpose which gives them a soul. Respecting and encouraging the women in their lives without being "whipped" by them. I wrote a post dedicated to that in the "Yannick" thread. I was kind of hoping an American men's magazine would pick it up and in passing promote MM. Usually they either go with Bad Boys or Metrosexuals: can I haz this Man!Model instead please? I don't want to see a kid in the picture right away either: it's like a card in the deck the writers can play when they run out of places to go with the marriage. I think initially they are going to have to distract people from the fact the Battle for the Marriage is over by throwing some other big drama to worry about in there. I still like excommunication for that, but there could be other things. If the writers don't do that, honestly they are going to have put Julia on a ship that's lost at sea and leave her fate unknown for months while fans William pines and fans go crazy over the prospect that she might be declared dead and William's eye might wander. Otherwise, what do fans have to rally for? Please don't kill me, it's true.

He grew up thinking his father was an alcoholic, a wife-beater and a useless low-life who abandoned his children (meeting Harry a few years back didn't change a whole lot about his view of him.) William may have had two sides to him at the time he was in the lumber camps. (and spending long time in Confession!) He did get the Jesuit education, but perhaps when he was younger he was a bit of a swaggerer, a tough, and a handsome devil. Perhaps he even drank a bit too much. Perhaps he hurt or even killed someone while boxing(!) for money! Perhaps that first case was suspicion or even knowledge that those matches were rigged? And then he realized he was becoming his father, and when he joined the constables and moved to the big city where he was exposed to Victorian middle class culture, he became determined to turn his life around and become one of them.

What if William already had a son from his romance with Anna that would then leave them the chance to adopt a daughter son could turn up at the wedding with a carer to say Anna died and this is William murdoch Jr could put a spanner in the works on the day of the wedding

You may be disappointed because it would seem that William will wear a top hat and a -bloody hell- bow tie on his wedding day. You also seem "fascinated" by William's tie and by what it could represent, you should create a new thread about the theory of the tie in order to know what the others think about this and how Julia could get it like she gets a trophy over a long period of hunting. To finish, Snacky often reminds us that William is devoted to his hat -I have one or two ideas about this- and each time, I can't help to imagine Julia say to him this sentence: "You can leave you hat on!". LOL. (Though I've never seen the movie, just hear the song by Joe COCKER).

Don't get me wrong, their relationship is my favourite part of the show but the real fun has always been about getting a hint of something personal going on in the background that the other characters aren't yet totally aware of. William said that they will get married as soon as possible but his notion of "soon" is much longer than our notion of "soon". The writers of MURDOCH MYSTERIES are good -and even "too good" for my licking- at dragging out their relationship so they surely bring some obstacles to their wedding in order to keep the interest of an audience. Once married -if there is a wedding: www.facebook.com/MurdochOnCBC/photos/pb.278265358918600.-2207520000.1405263729./647509045327561/?type=1&theater- I think they could find some -romantic- ships about the change in their lives (to learn how to live together, to find compromises -surely they will need to-, to reconcile themselves after a conflict -I would like it, it could be so funny!) in a good measure -of course!- in the back ground without making the serie a soap opera (and contrary to what Snacky seems to think, it's definitely not what I want). But I stopped to expect this kind of ships in order to be not disappointed anymore. Like you, I don't see a child come into the picture because Julia and William are too much focused on their careers. And I would be worried when they decide to adopt because it means -in my opinion- the beginning of the end of the MURDOCH MYSTERIES.

Now that would have been the ultimate Charlie Brown football! Credit: Brian Laufman (@ blaufman) on Twitter And it makes me wonder if Bill Brioux knows something/let something slip about the "dream sequence" wedding. don't kill me, guys.Because if Anna came back into town with a child, that would not only put the kabosh on the wedding: it could possibly force William to marry *her*, and at the very least it would put Julia in a considerable psychological state of crisis about something (inadequacy? fear? nervous breakdown?) about her own infertility. If the writers didn't think of this, there's probably one knocking his/her head against the table right now and wishing they did, lol. On the other hand, they did already broach that scenario in Loch Ness Murdoch, so someone had to think of it. As a fan of MM going into 10+ seasons, I kind of wish this would have happened. (With Julia OTP winning out in the end, of course).
