I am proud to have pleased the "Keeper of the Homburg" You inspired me to create this, but I don't know if it might be interpreted as homobphobic. (Frankly I think even my gay housemate would find metrosexual!William a turn off, lol). Ps. And I did send it. This is brilliant! Bravo! I will send it within minutes.

Thank you for taking the time to do so! And if you know how to append an image to Twitter and hashtag, pls do that as well.

My husband pointed out that the question "Who would you date?" could be construed as homophobic, and I can see his point. Maybe the picture could be changed or the question. Anyway our crusade should avoid offending anyone.
Just a thought.

Just a thought. Yes that occurred to me, too, and I brought it up in an earlier post. It's more of a question of lookism and gay stereotypes, though. My housemate is gay, and he would date choice 1 vs choice 2. But choice 2 is definitely a historical "gay stereotype". Which was exactly what Murdoch Mysteries was trying to achieve. On the other hand, lovemondays is right about what "The Artful Detective" evokes, why it's not representative of Murdoch Mysteries, and why US viewers probably wouldn't check out the program. Anyway, you're right to have the thought, and I'd like to know if it strikes anyone else as offensive. I'm kind of on the fence about it.

It is definitely an on-the-fence issue. The sentiment about how badly "The Artful Detective" represents MM I think is bang on; however, I can see how some people might be offended. Maybe if the caption were changed to something like "Who is the REAL William Murdoch?" then the focus will stay on the poor title rather than becoming a springboard for the homophobes and GLB communities.
I only used that particular image because it is EXACTLY what came to mind when I first heard that idiotic title.

Firstly, yes, my identity is known. Snaky guessed lovemondays and threw lovemondays' own investigation came to the conclusion that I am her "eeeevil child". Secondly, thank you! This picture lovemondays and I work to get from her DVD collection is of George's stock. Him being all clairvoyant and all... [br Thanks. I really get a kick out of George. I was wondering who the "Eeeevil Child "was. Guess I am behind the times.

I do, too, and will get to this when my Mom's visit is over.

They call it The Artful Detective because Ovation is an all arts channel

They call it The Artful Detective because Ovation is an all arts channel That was certainly the idea...the execs wanted it to fit the rest of their programming (which was all arts related) and which I get in a way, but in the end, I think it was a really bad idea because this is a show with a global audience and the network could have used the notoriety behind "Murdoch Mysteries" and really capitalized on it. IMO, the network missed a golden opportunity, and quite frankly, blew it.

I too understand that "Murdoch Mysteries" is a title that suits a mystery channel more than an arts channel, but I agree that they missed a magical opportunity to tap into the global audience. In fact, they managed to do the opposite by creating confusion in having 2 titles for the same show. It interests me that an arts channel is so afraid of the word "mysteries". I am not really a fan of "mysteries" but there are so many other aspects of the show that have captured my attention. "Arts" embraces such a wide variety of media, so what's with choosing to limit the scope?

The term "Arts" does embrace a variety of things, so I really don't know why the execs of Ovation thought such a thing was necessary, but they did, and I don't know why renaming it to fit the perceived arc of their network was more beneficial than cashing in on the existing buzz surrounding the global cache of the show. To further confuse matters, local channels seemed to have picked up "Murdoch Mysteries" and are airing them in an edited form as Snacky has previously stated. This in itself is a mystery.

And in an age when MTV is barely musical, Arts & Entertainment Channel is neither, History Channel has shown plenty that is, at best, pseudo-history, I would never say 'Bravo' to Bravo, and Animal Planet prides itself on its new tag of 'Surprisingly Human'... Well, why limit oneself?

Well, why limit oneself? I had this exact thought after I posted. I joke to my students that I'm so old, I remember when MTV played videos, and the History Channel's obsession with aliens is now a well documented meme. Why limit oneself indeed!

They call it The Artful Detective because Ovation is an all arts channel I have since realized that "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" is aired on Ovation with that title. Following the logic it should be titled "Miss Fischer's Artful Murder Mysteries". I'm not buying it FOR ONE SECOND. Bad decision. Period.
