They call it The Artful Detective because Ovation is an all arts channel I have since realized that "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" is aired on Ovation with that title. Following the logic it should be titled "Miss Fischer's Artful Murder Mysteries". I'm not buying it FOR ONE SECOND. Bad decision. Period. Really? Perhaps the execs realize it they screwed up, but will never admit it. :/

My opinion is that the name change was done, possibly to highlight William's "artful" inventions? My only question is, if you're going to change the title to appeal to an American audience, why not go with James Pendrick's title? THE FILMED ADVENTURES OF DETECTIVE MURDOCH has an Ovation like ring to it...

I've been thinking about this and they could still change the title and keep their Artful Detective. Just call it Murdoch Mysteries - The Artful Detective. Simple!

To find this show, I searched "Murdoch Mysteries" on my TV system, and found the show on Ovation under that name to record it, yet couldn't find it in the listings. Now I know why. Definitely the wrong name for it.

One of the things Yannick said during his talk in Brantford was that Ovation seems to agree that they made a mistake renaming the show but now they are stuck with it.

I still don't see why they are totally stuck with it. As I've said before just call it Murdoch Mysteries: The Artful Detective. This way they get the recognition of MM whilst keeping their own name for those that only know it as TAD. There again I don't really see why they feel they have to stick with TAD.

I think they could fix it if they really wanted to. The problem is that many Americans suffer from thought-stunting, bat-blind stupidity. The Ovation folks seem to have it in abundance. :-(

I'm not sure it matters and I like that it hasn't taken off in the US. They never figured out The Tragically Hip, a band that sings about Canada and Canadian issues, so why would they get into a show that is so Canadian? It's nice to have something that's good and all ours.

It's nice to have something that's good and all ours. Actually I'm quite happy that it hasn't taken off in a big way in the US and that people have to go out of their way to watch it. I've said in the past about shows that do well then a network wants to put money into it but wants changes and Canadian production companies don't seem to have the guts to tell them where to stick it. My previous favourite show was destroyed by a US network putting money in then suddenly changing their mind after the show had been changed to suit them, it killed the show. I hope it never happens to MM.

Oh My Goodness, I have been away a long time.
As far as Ovation goes, they are almost a lost cause. They have done what they can to destroy, let alone develop, interest in "The Artful Detective." I agree, they should change the name to Murdoch Mysteries. The name change is the brain-child of Ovation, and Ovation's alone. Please don't damn the rest of us yankees for that abomination.
Yes, they carry "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries," but they screwed that up, too. There was no promotion to speak of, and they didn't even get the wonderful "extras" on costumes, actors, etc., that the ABC developed. I was stunned when I discovered that the ABC even developed course work based on MFMM episodes, using the episodes as resources for schools? That is so neat. Excuse me, I diverge.
Anyway, Ovation has moved MFMM around all over the place in their schedule which doesn't help matters either.
Why don't we all email them (Ovation) and ask them to change the name back to Murdoch Mysteries?
And I still have to wait until January to see Season 11.
