Interesting...you are quite the eagle eye. I hadn't caught that, but maybe as a miner, he was there to escape his past. But, once he goes back to being a detective, he's got to be clearheaded. I suspect you're right but he'd also mentally returned to the old staid William. Seems clothes do maketh the man. Have we forgotten the homburg has magic powers?

I'm not sure returning to the old William could be considered magic. Though I guess it's too late for him to turn into Casanova and sweep Julia off her feet.

You never know - he's looking pretty spry in those trailers after looking totally worn down to shreds at the end of Season 7. An argument could be made that finally winning Julia rejuvenated him! I'm looking forward to seeing William in his at least in his vest - I think nerds look sexy that way. Besides William now has something to prove - that he is NOT a stick in the mud!

My prediction is knight in shining armor stuff will occur, underscored by a horse being involved. wildhorsesannie had a whole specialty MM analysis going on based on Arthurian analogy. But if MM is a good TV show, which it is, the situation will undercut the audience's stereotyped expectations in some way.

He didn't exactly turn into Casanova to win her though and she did have to tell him to ask her again. I do like the rejuvenated look in the trailer but that may have more to do with the time off between seasons than anything to do with the show. I always think Yannick looks tired by the end of the season.

I always think Yannick looks tired by the end of the season. I may be paying just a bit too much to what Yannick is saying in interviews, but, I remember something in this regard, too: I think he and his wife were doing some yoga/vegetarian/whatsit retreat. Maybe CBC and/or Shaftsbury realize after trying to squeeze in 18 eps last year that their bread is partly buttered on keeping their actors healthy: they might try starting to reinforce that a little more. Though after Yannick's comment thanking Team Orphan Black for the jacket (and looking fairly cold and wet), I'm wondering what would happen to MM filming if he did get really sick! Regarding the possibilities of in-show rejuvenation, I meant starting this season. Also, the whole cast looks younger indoors. I'm not sure why they can't do lighting/make up outdoors - that doesn't seem to be a problem with American TV. But on MM people age a decade once they go outdoors. By the way, is it my imagination or does William's office look lighter? Maybe there was a "remodel" inside as well as outside. Where will all his lab equipment go? Or maybe William gets his own separate "crime lab" room now!

He was tired last year. They've already had one hiatus week this year, I'm guessing they'll have another.

I've largely blocked the entire Sam/Pete relationship from my memory. Not because I didn't want her pining away after a man she couldn't have at that time, but because of who he was. The Sam Carter in my head would have kicked that joker's a$$ as soon as she found out he was stalking her, and then made him clean her bathroom afterwards. Meanwhile, Jack would have been standing to the side, watching the whole thing while drinking a beer and saying "atta girl". lol. Well, the bookshelf line was still great. Jack was really too old for her. In the end he was kind of too old for any of them, and I think he would have been kind of a jerk as a boyfriend. Best friend, maybe, but not boyfriend. I converted to Daniel/Vala later. Probably. I did later have a thing for Sam/Cam, but as one of my friends called it "Father Figure Kink of Angsty Hotness" or we may have had a thing for younger women/older men relationships and all the drama that came with it. Sam/Jack fit it perfectly, as did Kate/Gibbs from NCIS and Burns/McDonough from Red Cap-all fandoms that many of us were active in.

Not the same as just his undershirt hot, but perhaps even hotter in a special way. Perhaps it's because propriety has been breached.

Soooo, I was rewatching season 6, and hubby joined me (first time) while watching Murdoch in Ladies Wear.
He quickly picked up on W/J and noted that Julia took it rather well that William was having sexual dreams about Eva. I agree. Given her annoyance that William was allowing Eva to play him in the interview, and she definitely didn't like it when she was touching him, why do you think she seemed none too upset that William was fantasizing about another woman in a sexual manner.
This relates to this topic because if they haven't, because William wants to wait until they're married, why isn't she more worried/angered that William is dreaming about having sex with another woman? Is this more proof that William will play with other women, but not with Julia because she's "the one you marry". That can't please Julia too much either.
I'm really thinking that while William and Julia haven't, he has-with other women. Argh! This might be the end of my duality theory.

Jack worked for me as an older man until he started getting creaky and cranky - then I'm glad he retired!

For some reason I think the vest is even sexier than the undershirt because it's like a gesture toward being civilized and dressed up yet casual at the minute, and at the same time it's another layer of clothing to rip off. And of course, I associate with vaguely old fashioned men's clothing, just as the bodice is the historical romance costume for women. Plus the cut of vests tend to make men look good, just as lingerie makes women look good.

I'm really thinking that while William and Julia haven't, he has-with other women. Argh! This might be the end of my duality theory. It is hilarious William would let Julia psychoanalyze him on this topic. Maybe it was his only out after the interview. Asking Julia to "help" him because he couldn't resist Eva's insidious charms! One other thing to note is the dream was about Eva seducing William: undressing and kissing him. If William is "waiting for marriage", then I think Julia assumes he hasn't been sleeping with anyone. A kiss in his dream might represent his unconscious desires, but at the dream level everything is symbolic - even Eva. I don't think Julia would feel threatened by that. I think she'd be interested in interpreting William's sexual frustration and eager to make sure she becomes the object of his thoughts in that regard! I suspect William has with other women, too, and I do think it comes down to - putting it crassly - the "virgin/whore" thing. But William is living in an area where values are rapidly changing, and he's in a relationship with a woman that's more progressive than he is. I think that's why the question keeps coming up for me, and why it's not just a "shippy" question for this particular character/show. Did they/didn't they actually means something here, because "they didn't" stands for William's established world view while "they did" represents a significant character development that would have to be accounted for both in terms of his relationship with Julia and the historical context. Anyway, I think William has had to struggle with the fact that Julia is not exactly a virgin, and that's the modern way of the world he is now in. Even though this struggle isn't explicit, I think it's implied, and it's part of what makes MM and William's character so interesting.

Oh, I bet that conversation was quite heated-someone should write a fic about that. I can't write all the fics *glares at Snacky*. He probably did agree to the analysis because William is afraid of angry Julia. I just watched it again, and Julia seems a bit amused at the whole thing-maybe she was just relieved to know that William has sex dreams. But still, she took it rather well that her beau was sexually fantasizing about another woman. You're absolutely right that Julia represents the entire virgin/whore topic, and it is a central issue to the show as it bridges the transition from a more traditional world to a more modern one. Interestingly, William has accepted that even before she married, he wasn't the first, yet he still seems to want to save her for marriage. It's a very interesting paradox indeed.
