You really are a glutton for punishment. Even the way William tells Meyers that "we are very happy" sounded flat to me. Well I'm a fan of angst, as long as tgey don't actually kill off George. That's where we get the great acting - YB will be envious! Regarding William's tone - my hopes are revived a bit that there nay actually be trouble in paradise...? The writers could let themselves off the hook that way. See Fallenbelle's latest fic for a possible blow out version. They can't kill off George or even move him to another station. He's too integral to the chemistry that makes MM special. I really enjoyed Fallenbelle's fic but I do not see some version of that scenario being written in the same season as the wedding. Hodge's dream fic is more likely IMO. The writers have dug themselves a massive hole and it's going to take something spectacular to get themselves out of it. I really hope TPTB take some time to regroup and come up with a sensible plan BEFORE they start writing. Until this season they have managed quite nicely to balance the formula of good mystery + a few, sensible shippy bits = fantastic show.

Do I have to make a "Emillian: At Least It's Better Than Gemily" pic? Or can that go without saying? Emillian? I think I'd rather have Gemily and I don't ship them!!

Uneven, yes. Only ONE sensational plot IMO and barely any ship in the primary relationship. Do you think they were trying to keep the new viewers hooked that way, by leaving the loyal shipper fans adrift after the wedding? That was the motivation for the significant fanservice around the wedding? 'Give them enough all at once and that should hold them while we focus on murders.' That is such a weird "plan" to have don't you think? They were able to be cohesive the previous seasons (except for season 5 which is the one I like the least for plenty of reasons) so why would you change something that was working before, it is totally eluding me. When did PM become the showrunner?? None of this nonsense happened when Cal Coons had the job.

Season 5 actually (dun dun dun) But I was quite happy with how things were going in season 7 (except for 4 episodes I could have gone without the rest was quite good imo) so that's why i feel so let down by season 8. Cal Coons is awesome, still now the episodes he directs from time to time (I don't know if he writes for the show anymore) are always some of my favorites!!

I like a lot of PM's scripts but he just doesn't have it as a show runner for this show any more.

But they didn't focus on the murders. That might have made sense at least, and I think I would have been more tolerant of the lack of Jilliam if the mysteries had been delivering outstanding eps week after week. IMHO, the derailment on side plots at the expense of mysteries stinks of "succession planning". But they jumped the gun and perhaps artificially accelerated the pace. Tonight I have to wonder whether they were hoping they could manipulate the audience into liking Gemily. I really hope not. They didn't need to do any manipulating...did you see how many people had not picked up on Lemily? They were all but, but, but...George is with Emily!!! There is no Gemily. George made that call last season and it was the right one, IMHO. You have to wonder about how CBC didn't have all the titles, let alone in order, until very close to air date for the second half of this season. I think they've been scrambling since What Lies Buried. They had some murder plots but had mysteriously forgotten how to link the shipper arc. I think they did a good job with the suffragist arc as it's been going all season and the Gedna ship has been sweet but too much just doesn't add up in terms of the MM formula.

Season 7 had some great episodes, but it slipped a little on the side of Disneyfication and fanservice. As mentioned elsewhere, the Jilliam scenes caused shippers to vote these eps up in IMDB. You would think US money would need to get involved before a show started trying to court the shippers, and then trying to manipulate the shippers. But I guess Canadians can play that game, too...

Cal Coons and Paul Aitken are my absolute favourite combination. Peter has done some interesting things but I'm feeling as let down with this season as I did when Julia got on that train to Buffalo. I loved a good deal about the first 7 episodes this season but the rest have been hit or miss at best.

I've been wondering what's been going on with the last half of the season's episodes. Unfortunately once they'd finished filming they couldn't add any more shippy scenes. Perhaps they tried to manipulate the scenes they had to try and appease the shippers. Didn't work.

Yannick looks really tired again at the end of this season as he did at the end of S7. Perhaps they should start sooner and finish later and have a couple of hiatus at appropriate intervals. It would also give them time to look over what they've filmed and make changes if necessary.

His colour was terrible tonight, but he looked good the night I saw him. **goes back to oogle prized photo**
