William would have been in a different riding. Margaret Haille ran in Toronto North. The hotel William and Julia were in most likely would have been in Toronto East, or possibly in Toronto Centre. As a non-Canadian I assume that means William would have been voting for different candidates entirely? If so, excellent! That's right. Every ward has a different candidate and Toronto would have had several.

I wonder if the writers realized this or if they got lucky

I wonder if the writers realized this or if they got lucky I'm sure the writers were very aware of the ridings, as we are still using the same system (although the riding boundaries have changed over the years due to a growing population and shifts in development), and presumably they vote in each of our elections. The election of MPPs from each riding (or constituency) is the whole driving force of who forms the government......

So I don't think it was mentioned who William voted for. You would think he'd be supporting Julia & the suffragettes but I got to thinking about the ballots. Since William cast his vote early do we think Margaret Haille was actually on the early ballot? You'd think she would have been forgotten on both and in that case William wouldn't have voted for her... Interesting question since William may have been a fan of Julia more than advancing women for office in general. But, IMHO, he would have voted for Margaret Haile just to make a big show for Julia how he was doing it. Perhaps the Advanced Ballots were printed correctly. (or this was another plot hole). But it's amusing to think this was something William cleverly decided to do in bed. UPDATE: Aw, later posts assert William couldn't have voted for the the ladies. So much for that smooth evening move.
