Another edgy topic: euthanasia in The Death of Dr. Ogden. Still an edgy topic to this day. Also, I just wanted to say that I LOVE your new avatar! Did you make it yourself? Because this is now in my head. Totally making me nostalgic for my childhood!

That would be me! It did turn out rather well didn't it? I get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see in in the threads in this forum. Would you like me to make you one?

In Child's Play, when a witness isn't being forthcoming about paying kids for stolen horses, Murdoch mentions a recent case where the neighbors found about the horse thefts before the police could threaten them. A rather dark threat on William's part.

A rather dark threat on William's part. I believe in the same episode William makes a not-so-subtle veiled threat about the treatment in prison that could be meted out to the former valet as leverage to get him to talk...? That line always disgusts me in American TV shows, mainly because such implied threats celebrate unconstitutional elements that are allowed to flourish "unofficially" within the prison system precisely because such an environment can be used as a weapon of intimidation by law enforcement. Thank God MM only resorted to this kind of line once.

That too is edgy-Methinks William has maybe become a bit too squeaky clean in later seasons. Making a threat like that doesn't imply that you approve of a practice, but when you're dealing with an uncooperative witness who's in a sense protecting a child molester, it's a tool.

The problem with this tool, IMHO, is its availability makes its users no better than the the criminals that they are trying to capture and prosecute. As long as the tool is there, it's tempting to use it because you're willing to do anything to get such an awful person off the street. That's why I wish such tools weren't available at all. Hopefully, without the availability of the "cheap shot", the law enforcer will find other, more legit, and hopefully just effective, tools to use. Law enforcement has to evolve with human rights.

Human rights didn't exist in Victorian times so anything went. William has also resorted to entrapment in TGM.

Weird to think about how our upright hero of moral law enforcement is also behaving unethically from a modern point of view.
