That, and William can't help himself. He likes pretty girls or even a hint of nudity is enough to distract him-he's so sexually repressed that rather than find an appropriate outlet, it oozes out everywhere else. Such as staring at his wife's ass while he was working-Julia's got to work on teaching him an appropriate outlet for his sexuality-which is uber-repressed even for a Victorian. And don't forget he actually lectures his colleagues about "porn"! I was trying to think of all the time "distracting" pictures have appeared in MM. I thought of Bathsheba, the Landscape, the postcards - what else? The only other one that comes to mind is in Ragtime. Right before Miss Hamilton shows up, two constables are looking at dirty pics and then they hastily put them away.

I'm surprised William hasn't found more opportunities to be "exposed to art", lol.

There was an episode of Miss Fisher that also dealt with art in a very similar manner.

There was an episode of Miss Fisher that also dealt with art in a very similar manner. Did Miss Fisher find something interesting to look at under a figleaf? No, Miss Fisher was an artist's model in Paris after the war, and posed for a portrait that shall we say, exposed her attributes. There's a scene where the young constable is quite agog as he stares at another nude portrait, and it's reminiscent of that one scene in MM where they're all staring the portrait. However, one of the stolen paintings is the one Phryne posed for, and Detective Robinson recovers it for her. However, once he realizes that the model is Phryne...his usual cool evaporates into thin air and gets quite nervous, leaving abruptly. **toys with the idea of writing fic where Julia poses for a painting to surprise William with**

Hhhmmmm, for me that scenario of William finding an old portrait or photo of Julia would be verrrryyyyy interesting to see played out but I guess it would stray from the whole Detective Murdoch-solves-police-mysteries "thing" they have going on. Pity. Since the wedding and the honeymoon, my imagination has had an overloaded circuit board given all the scenes we KNOW must have happened but can't be screened. Sigh. It's just so exhausting being an "the Murdochs" fan these days. I vote for a "Secret life of..." version of MM.

That would be a really good way to feed the shippers without bothering the non-shippers. Now...how to make THAT happen ?
