I can't wait to see this episode and I fear it will be another one with a marginalized Julia even though it is an excellent opportunity for W/J to draw closer together. I think it's going to marginalize both William and Julia since it will be mostly flashback to William's earlier life! The question is...what occasions these flashbacks? Maybe William gets a knock on the head and gets some attention from naughty nurse Julia...

Shipwreck was originally E814 as per the clapper. This season seems to have been rearranged to the point we have no idea which ep was supposed to come next. I think the only thing we can be sure of are the two last eps but it looks like Toronto's Girl Problem is 14 and Shipwreck in now 15 that leaves Crabtreemania as 16. If nothing was changed in the editing before the episodes were re-arranged, no wonder there isn't any relationship evidence. They couldn't afford any character development if the episodes weren't going to build on one another. I wonder what happened here. This disorganization was really crappy. The sense of "building something" adds to the show. Not sure what happened with the seeming re-arrangement but it seems to have happened since Helene broke her wrist.

The House of Eternal Return has been seen as the Cutler home in "The Knockout", the Jenkins home in "Downstairs, Upstairs" and as the Garland house in "Stroll on the Wild Side P2". C'est tout!! I like you ideas for George's new book though . It's crying out for Smokebomb Webisodes, isn't it???!!! And George has invoked his interest in Martians and Venusians many times. Perhaps he could write a reality-based book about Martian canals or something. He could invent Edutainment! In the middle of writing it, he could fall asleep and have a surrealist dream/nightmare along the lines of Dark City, tee hee...

I didn't realize Maureen wrote this episode too. Even better!!! Actually I haven't enjoyed the eps that Maureen has written (with PM) as much as the others. Not sure if she collaborated with him on this one. I liked Staircase to Heaven once I figured out what the cards meant. I think they should have given us a hint of what Heaven meant to William, though. Then that episode would have made a lot more sense.

Maybe it totally went over my head ... every time I've watched it!

I have to admit to going into this ep the same way I do all the rest ... take it as I find it! I hope it's good but if it isn't then it's just one more on my not so long list of eps I don't like. Even the eps I complain about I usually find something in them that I do like. When I first viewed Keystone Constables I didn't care for it because of the vaudeville however having watched it several times I got over the vaudeville and started looking at the rest and now I really like it. Nothing will beat What Lies Buried though!! I'm surprised you can watch What Lies Buried after what happened to Hodge! This is the episode I'm going to use to reel some folks in, though - especially since Season 8 is going to air on Ovation in the US. I like Keystone Constables, but I have to fast forward through George getting stage fright - that's too sad! Also I have mixed feelings about the end. I love getting a William/Julia domestic scene and that William worked the entire episode to construct his joke. I love that William was jealous about another man making Julia laugh, and I love that he promised he will always court Julia. I'm under the impression they regularly have tea, also. Still, I'm not a fan of fart jokes (and I didn't like to find out William was), and I'm also not sure that "cracking up" William is in character. As cute as the scene was, it just doesn't sit well with the model I have of William in my head.

I go into each episode expecting to love it! Sometimes I find myself disappointed, but I agree with you that even my least favourite eps have some redeeming qualities...except Bellyspeaker. I can't get past the puppet . Bellyspeaker always seemed like a stealth episode of The X-Files to me. It's one of the reasons I think there are former TXF writers/crew somewhere in the MM mix.

But there again maybe it ties with The Great Wall or perhaps.... There are about 5 eps that are my favourite.

Maybe it totally went over my head ... every time I've watched it! The cards have nothing to do with Heaven. They are just a symbol of the fateful moment that can go either way, make a choice, live or die, go to heaven or return to earth, etc. William is holding the card while he is suspended between two worlds. The audience thinks that's his view of Heaven because that's all we saw William do, and at the end he starts writing about his Divine Vision. So obviously at some point he got a peep at his vision of Heaven. Sadly, however, the audience isn't in on it.

Didn't think the cards had anything to do with heaven, just that it appeared that William's view of heaven was just him sitting there with cards. Perhaps he did have a view of his vision of heaven that we weren't privy to. I wasn't impressed by this scene, I wasn't that impressed by the whole ep actually, one of my least favourites. Funnily enough however when I look at all the eps I like S5 has a very high number considering it the least shippy of them all.

He comes to town, they have dinner, reminisce...Julia gets curious and starts asking questions... Or at least, that's how I hope it goes, anyway. Whatever-I'm with you in that I'm taking them as they come this season.

From the CBC schedule: Murdoch revisits his past when a murder investigation at a church reunites him with the priest (Peter Outerbridge) who mentored him as a young altar boy.
