Thanks for posting these links: very interesting reading. Fun fact: I used to work at the Toronto Reference Library. But it has never occurred to me to try online research there. And you live half a world away! I have so much to learn from you.

From the tweets, I think I have the Higgins theme song: Your So Vain by Carly Simon!

This ep was not my cup of tea. I didn't understand why they chose Shatner to play Twain...and I still don't understand after watching it. He kind of killed the ep for me. But I'm sure lots of people got a kick out of him coming on the show. Maybe if he had had more of a cameo appearance it would have been okay. As it was, I couldn't understand half of what he was saying...which made it kind of hard to follow.
Though there were some funny-ish bits with Margaret. I continue to understand why Brax drinks so much...
George + mustache = comedy gold. He doesn't even have to say anything.
I personally get incredibly irritated like George when Henry is being a bad friend/constable. But the continuity from S7 was kind of fun.
At least the case wasn't totally obvious from the get go...that's something they've done well for the past 2 eps imo.
And next weeks ep...well, if it's what it looks like, seriously? I was joking about that happening...

I enjoyed the episode, although it wasn't as good as the first one......Shatner did mumble a bit, but he was convincing as Twain, despite being anything but tall and lean......I loved the bit at the end when he gave George Brakenreid's pen.......

I was totally serious in that it would give Emily a reason to leave anyway, even if she wasn't the one to die. However, lizmc is right: if Lillian's death was heavily hinted at in the trailer, this could be a red herring.

Emily was certainly very upset, about more than the death too.

From the tweets, I think I have the Higgins theme song: Your So Vain by Carly Simon! f Of course I have been trying to think of something and that is perfect. At the rate Higgins is going he will be third class again soon. Wow is he annoying. However not as annoying as Lillian. The women cannot say something nice to save her life apparently. Doesn't need a man to speak for them?!?!? Well the men are going to have to be the ones to vote for her to have the vote. It won't happen by magic... I am really beginning to dislike this role and I didn't think there was anything in Murdoch I disliked.

I also completely missed that it was not Twain that was the target. I should have seen it but whoosh. Right over my head LOL

I'm curious if that will earn him the same loathing as Lillian.

I don't think so, because, not to point too fine a point on it, Higgins is dumb......William won't put up with him and George will outperform him, and he'll end up back where he started. I don't think there is any malice in Higgins......Lillian is not dumb, far from it....Lillian is embittered, argumentative and rude.......

Still feels like a double-standard for female characters to me.

Not all that thrilled with Mr Shatner, but it was a decent episode otherwise, I liked the twist with the other target. And I enjoyed the ever annoying Higgins and of course George. And Margaret! Always lovely to see Arwen. I stumbled across a posting by evilpete in the Murdoch Mysteries FB page about Mr Shatner, and it seemed fair to me. I didn't seem to find it anywhere in this board, but if I missed it I apologize for reprinting.
Peter Mitchell The whole Shatner/Holbrook/twain thing was a challenge. Mr Twain had many looks in his life, Holbrook chose one that has now become iconic and is the look was associate with Twain. As for how he sounded in real life the best we could find was an audio tape of an actor friend of his imitating his speaking voice. It was also impossible to determine the differences between the public and the private Twain. We decided the smart thing to do was not have Mr Shatner try to play Mr Holbrook and just have fun with it...
