Anyone else thinking this is the Murdoch "Jump The Shark" episode? Flying suits, Vernesque science labs, and a rocket launch worthy of 1965 NASA fueled by a substance that wasn't even suggested as a rocket fuel until 1938? Will the next episode show our Murdoch inventing rap music? Not me.

You make excellent points, Carco. And you're right: it really was my own personal shark, because I get picky on things like fantastical improbabilities and historical inaccuracies. I think I'll just stick around and watch some more episodes, keeping your points in mind. Thanks! For sure stick around and keep watching the show. They have many researchers and are pretty accurate in their depictions...give or take 5 yrs or so, I believe someone said once. If you ever doubt the veracity in a particular episode try watching the "Making of..." videos they put out after the episode airs. They often provide great background on why they went in a particular direction in the episode, etc. But it's strictly entertainment so enjoy the ride, they're driving the bus. (But we like to be backseat drivers). So I think the "stretching of veracity" is part of the fun of this show. Somehow they succeed in teaching us about history while only loosely following real history. I have seen it as a sort of tongue in cheek nod to everything. Because of the great (mostly) acting and the clever handling of multiple characters and plots with subplots this show is great fun. I hope they continue to stretch plausibility until when get the vote.

I agree I thought this was a delightful episode with so much to enjoy except Meyers and Clegg both gone how sad. Some of my favorite scenes involve both of them. However, much Pendrick left to explore and we never did find out what's up with the Svetlana leg thing. I really think Clegg will be back after all he ended up Ambassador even though he was run out of Canada before. He has eyes on Canada as the next colony for the US. I cannot see how Meyers could come back but I hope he does. I think Rebecca is going to be very interesting for Julia. Maybe that is why there was so much about her being tired last episode so she can get an assistant. And so on and so on and so on. I love this show. There was a question and answer with Peter Keleghan on FB and he believes Myers is A) alive; B) in Borneo; C) what happens in Borneo, stays in Borneo; and D) he'll be back......he has also volunteered for a new spin off series, The Myers Mysteries......
An observation......Sarah Mitich, Tamara Hope and Peter Keleghan figured prominently in Fan Day.....we are less than half way through and all 3 are gone.......hmmmm......be careful, Arwen Humphries......
Daiva Johnston (Eva Pearce) was also there-so I guess she's on the list now too. ?

It gives the writers something to go back to and something for the audience to wonder about. Both are interesting, complex characters with William fixations. Gillies was another such character but his level of social deviance made me uncomfortable. I'm glad he is really most sincerely dead. I'm glad Peter K believes Meyers is still alive. So do I. I wasn't a fan of Meyers' earlier story lines but he has been back often enough for Peter to tweak that Meyers style magnificently...serious business but a pseudo characature of a spy. Now I enjoy those episodes because he is in them even if the plot isn't necessarily my cup of tea.

I loved this episode! Though count me among the few who will mourn Myers - *and* Clegg. I actually enjoy these spy episodes, and these glimpses of American-Canadian relations during this time. (Now, if I could just find a book that would give me more info...)

Eva and Sally never really have to be seen again. MM had the killer Hardcourt Grimsby escape in S1 and he's never been seen again. Not even William Murdoch gets every killer. Eva and Sally could just stay on the escapee list with Hardcourt and Constance Gardiner.
Meyers also doesn't need to be seen again, he's been in numerous episodes so there isn't even anything unresolved involving him. Even Gillies only got to appear so many times before it was time to finish his character.

I agree that Harcourt and Constance don't need to be seen again; however, Sally and Eva both have a thing for William. They like to play with his brain so logically, for the writers, have a motivation to return, leaving the audience wondering will they? There is a part of me that likes the idea of Sally returning if only to give both William and his developing friendship with Pendrick some closure. My prediction re Meyers is that he will be back at some point. He's a great character with loads of potential mystery/spy plots to entertain.

Sally and Eva should join forces and cause some major issues somewhere (not Toronto cuz Sally would never return) that Murdoch has to investigate, and then needs Pendrick's help for some reason too, so they both have a last face off.

A million years later I finally got to watch the episode. I absolutely loved it! I'm not even really sure what to say at this point except season 9 is amazing! Now excuse me while I go watch this episode 100 more times!

This episode confused me a great deal the first time I saw it, so it was one of my least favorite episode. However, when I finally rewatched it, I absorbed more of the details and appreciated the mystery more. There's some great Jilliam in that episode as well!

Imagine a case where William has to choose one to trust: neither or both could be guilty. Gillies wore out his welcome because he kept escaping from jail in increasingly improbably circumstances. Murdoch in Toyland is still a favorite of mine. Meyers could be just as tiresome if his appearances are gratuitous and keep banging on the same note of the piano. However any character can be redeemed by a good story. After all, we watch the same lead character (William Murdoch) every week!
