I'm so psyched there will be a Pink's detective agency - the lady detective is what we fans have wanted for Christmas ever since Tess!!!! If she's not a regular, I don't see how she's "too much". I would count her in as a recurring character like Paddy in Season 4. The house itself is a turn of the century work of art. Was that called the Craftsman Style in Canada? William and Julia get their shared lab (future professional crime lab potential!) and the newly invented dishwasher so the house will *require no servants*. Well, someone has been listening to our questions. One might wonder where such a bucolic house will be built in rapidly urbanizing Toronto. Glad William had a chance to get out of his suit! Whether his pants were too modern or not, William still looks hot in a vest! Perhaps the big suits can be explained by Yannick's reluctance to do the anorexic actor thing at this stage in his career. I don't think he has to worry: I interpret any increased girth as consequences of a satisfying marriage. I'm sure his sexiest part is still his tummy. (as Yannick proclaimed in an interview a couple of years ago). I'm really looking forward to all the trouble Ms. Pink is going to make! Once again Snacky pretty much summed up my thoughts about the episode. Loved Freddie and like the idea of a Pink's detective agency and the havoc she is going to cause. She seemed to be a person who 'just happens' to attract trouble - so really hope she will be recurring. The house looked beautiful (had to look at still pictures to have a good look at it) but like Snacky was wondering where this modern marvel is going to be built in expanding Toronto. And there seemed to be plenty of bedrooms, even though THAT room was not mentioned... And William always looks good sans jacket. More please! It has been great this season that we've gotten more glimpses of William and Julia in their home in a more intimate setting. All in all, enjoying season 9 a lot more than the previous one.

Tess 2.0!!!!!!!! I really liked this episode. It didn't seem to suffer from the gaping plot holes of a lot of recent episodes, and it was pretty tightly written. I have a sneaking suspicion that Yannick just plays off of women really well, even if it's not Julia. At the same time I didn't get a hint of "cheating". William seems to have gotten more used to sharing the investigation with women since the Ruby days. They merely test his imposition of logic on the surrounding world. This episode had an abundance of fan service (in which I include our collective speculative activities) that was very subtly woven throughout the episode. Huge kudos to the MM writers for that. 1) Young William having a million things in his pockets (including things that couldn't possibly fit in his pockets) to analyze the crime scene. Nice consistency with Father Keegan. I was trying to figure out how this fit into William's timeline otherwise: would he have been at the Jesuit school already? I lol'd at Freddie's alternative reasons for doing things her way. btw, I'm surprised the inspector wasn't aware of this highly prestigious award from William's job application. Also, the fact young William was so capable of winning academic recognition makes me wonder how he never obtained a scholarship for college. Perhaps the lumbersexual mystery of the gap years is yet to come... 2) Freddie Pink with the rifle while William continues to disdain the use of fire arms - LOVE IT! I also liked Freddie's teeny lady's gun. Was that a Derringer? I'm so psyched there will be a Pink's detective agency - the lady detective is what we fans have wanted for Christmas ever since Tess!!!! If she's not a regular, I don't see how she's "too much". I would count her in as a recurring character like Paddy in Season 4. And this is an alternative place for Julia, Rebecca, or even George to work in case of trouble. 3) The nerd gear!!!! Was that a wood-paneled flashlight? William's science dork glasses. The laptop vs. the ipad. (mini chalk board - heeeeeeee!). And of course Young William's Large Pockets Tool Kit. 4) The house!!! This has to be categorized under both Jilliam and Nerd Gear. Is William also going to invent the ridiculously long commute? I second the sentiment that *someone* is going to get laid that night. William's trepidation about Julia's approval seemed almost too adorkable: was he worried that Julia would never let go of the conveniences of the hotel? The squeaky "Really?" at the end was overboard for me. I guess I think of William as someone with quiet, under-stated confidence in himself, so those adorkable moments play slightly out of character for me. In my head canon, the ep ends with Julia scoring a couple of those tiny wooden drawing models and William discovering them doing naughty things in their future domicile. 5) Glad William had a chance to get out of his suit! Whether his pants were too modern or not, William still looks hot in a vest! I wonder if he ever takes Julia camping (re: the Dinosaur fantasy). Did anyone else wonder if Yannick was wearing some sort of guy-girdle when he was examining Singer's body? He seemed to be a bit constrained while speaking when he was looking over the body, and then relieved to be standing up again. I agree that this was a solid episode and didn't lead me to wondering what I had missed as a couple of previous eps had-this was a solid effort. I thought that there may have been a bit of a spark between these two, but no, not at all. I wasn't clamoring for them to have been former lovers or anything like that, but I was hoping that there may have been a first kiss between the two of them...maybe future episodes will give some backstory. I still contend that William has always had a thing for strong, opinionated women, and I think Miss Pink may have been an early crush... I totally laughed at William already carrying around a murder kit (even if it was still a prototype)-particularly the ruler. My husband reminded me that what did I expect-W is a nerd. I loved the house and rather than think his reticence uncharacteristic, I thought it appropriate. He's always been a bit unsure of their class differences, and while Julia has said the money is theirs, this is still a quite traditional man who wants to provide for his wife. He wants her to have a house worthy of her, and the only way he can provide this is through building it himself. He can design it, and build it, but will she love it? I thought it was quite apropos. Of course he got laid right after that. I too am looking forward to more Miss Pink, but I just don't know that I buy her as a love interest for George. I think if MM wants to go for the "taboo", George and Rebecca would be more interesting.

Freddie was like a mixture of Julia and Emily. The actress was too young to be playing a woman in her early 40's, I recognised her from Shades of Grey. Though we're obviously going to see her again, and Freddie better not fall in love with William. That would be annoying.
Julia being her brilliant self again, by blackmailing that racist scumbag official. Rebecca can go far with her smarts and Julia championing her. Finally W/J will have a house! Aww at the shared workshop so they can be a geek couple at home. So cute.

I have to admit that I was a bit confused by the Singer murder until I watched it a second time. I think I was too distracted by young William carrying a ruler and magnifying glass on a camping expedition, not to mention his using the Pythagorean theorem as the right way to pitch a tent.
Loved the lap board. I got the impression that George gave it to him.

George must be thinking that William really needs a blackboard wherever he is... Didn't he also give a blackboard as a wedding gift?

What happened to the gold? If Dobson had it then why was he still a police constable with such wealth.

No, I didn't think The Local Option was better, I said others, not which ones. There was something lacklustre about the storyline even though I enjoyed the scenery and the Julia storyline, plus the end. I found this ep less predictable than others, which is perhaps one of the reasons I liked it more. Also, other than the device of George knowing about that particular gold robbery, I didn't feel like this ep involved much of an inexplicable deus ex machina. On the other hand, it could be explained after the fact - unlike Double Life, which seemed to be missing a crucial scene. Other eps have seemed inexplicable as well - like how the murderer moved the electroplated bodies in Barenaked Ladies. I vaguely remember there being something amiss with the plot in Marked Twain, too...? Normally I hate watching a Kids ep, but all was forgiven the minute William started pulling the investigative gear out of his Infinite Pockets. It could be you are just overly familiar with the MM plot formula at this point, so you're able to guess the murderer every time! It certainly wasn't a predictable ep and I didn't guess the murderer, in fact I rarely do as I just go along for the ride, unlike books where I'm constantly trying to figure out whodunit. I don't even care about the plot holes, I suspend disbelief for this show. Double Life did have a very important scene missing, it was edited out for time, big mistake! I'm not into things with kids either but you've got to admit young William is cute!

Of course he got laid right after that. Once again Fallenbelle has put my thoughts into words. The only time William is unsure of himself is with Julia. The house is important to him, and Julia has to love it. He's designed it without her input and hopes she approves. To be honest I think she'd like anything that William builds, or does, for her because she knows he does it out of love.

What happened to the gold? If Dobson had it then why was he still a police constable with such wealth. Good question. Dobson had left the cache alone all those years as evidenced by the tracking marks. He must have moved it once the blackmail notes started arriving. Maybe he was getting ready to run with it...

I wonder if yet another explanation scene was cut from an episode. The writers need to tidy up the plot holes that are popping up a little too regularly this season. Still, an enjoyable episode to watch. Though I'm missing Higgins, he's been gone for three episodes.

All in all nice episode. Sort of looking forward to seeing more of Pink in future episodes. Maybe one off's or something-like the Pendrick/Myers ones.
Thank goodness this didn't screw up my timeline at all. I was a tad nervous it would.
Can I have a spin off series entitled Ogden Investigations? I mean seriously. YOU GO JULIA!
Few questions on the house:
Where are they going to find the land for it? That's not (the horror) 30 minutes from their workplaces. And William dear, you have a tendency to literally drop everything in the pursuit of a murderer. When are you going to find the time and still do geeky things and generally be adorkable (especially with your wife) That's a fairly ambitious house for a first time home builder. Not that I have any doubts here at all, but how long do you think it might possibly take to build taking in the account of the Canadian winter?

Methinks there will have to be another compromise as in William will agree to purchase the materials while Julia will beg him to allow her to pay for some construction workers to speed the process up. Or else, this house will never be built.

They'll probably be living in it at the beginning of S10 despite the fact that William hadn't started building it before the end of S9 and there will have been one of those looong Canadian winters.
