For those who don't know about Algonquin Park, it is the oldest provincial park in Canada, established in 1893. At roughly 3000 square miles it is larger than the whole of Prince Edward Island. It's a healthy 3 hour drive north of Toronto so I can only imagine how long the train took. The park is a favourite summer destination for camping, canoeing and hiking.

I love the nod to Anne of Green Gables. Yes, Freddie was dressed as we have seen may girls thus far, but the whole combination including an individual thinker from PEI was definitely a reference even though the first book wasn't written until 1908!

I didn't find this ep quite as engaging as the previous ones but loved Julia using her underhanded ways again. What can one say about the end? Love William when he's unsure or nervous of what Julia will think. When will he ever have time though?? Yes, lizmc, glad THAT wasn't brought up, I almost expected the room to be mentioned! One other thing, the cut of William's pants looked rather modern; the waist was somewhat low for the times don't you think? I think the pants may have been from the Gap......the back view was nice, though..... Good, that I am not the only one wondering about those pants! Need to watch again to figure out the construction. Not complaining, though :-)

Tess 2.0!!!!!!!! I really liked this episode. It didn't seem to suffer from the gaping plot holes of a lot of recent episodes, and it was pretty tightly written. I have a sneaking suspicion that Yannick just plays off of women really well, even if it's not Julia. At the same time I didn't get a hint of "cheating". William seems to have gotten more used to sharing the investigation with women since the Ruby days. They merely test his imposition of logic on the surrounding world. This episode had an abundance of fan service (in which I include our collective speculative activities) that was very subtly woven throughout the episode. Huge kudos to the MM writers for that. 1) Young William having a million things in his pockets (including things that couldn't possibly fit in his pockets) to analyze the crime scene. Nice consistency with Father Keegan. I was trying to figure out how this fit into William's timeline otherwise: would he have been at the Jesuit school already? I lol'd at Freddie's alternative reasons for doing things her way. btw, I'm surprised the inspector wasn't aware of this highly prestigious award from William's job application. Also, the fact young William was so capable of winning academic recognition makes me wonder how he never obtained a scholarship for college. Perhaps the lumbersexual mystery of the gap years is yet to come... 2) Freddie Pink with the rifle while William continues to disdain the use of fire arms - LOVE IT! I also liked Freddie's teeny lady's gun. Was that a Derringer? I'm so psyched there will be a Pink's detective agency - the lady detective is what we fans have wanted for Christmas ever since Tess!!!! If she's not a regular, I don't see how she's "too much". I would count her in as a recurring character like Paddy in Season 4. And this is an alternative place for Julia, Rebecca, or even George to work in case of trouble. 3) The nerd gear!!!! Was that a wood-paneled flashlight? William's science dork glasses. The laptop vs. the ipad. (mini chalk board - heeeeeeee!). And of course Young William's Large Pockets Tool Kit. 4) The house!!! This has to be categorized under both Jilliam and Nerd Gear. The house itself is a turn of the century work of art. Was that called the Craftsman Style in Canada? William and Julia get their shared lab (future professional crime lab potential!) and the newly invented dishwasher so the house will *require no servants*. Well, someone has been listening to our questions. One might wonder where such a bucolic house will be built in rapidly urbanizing Toronto. Is William also going to invent the ridiculously long commute? I second the sentiment that *someone* is going to get laid that night. William's trepidation about Julia's approval seemed almost too adorkable: was he worried that Julia would never let go of the conveniences of the hotel? The squeaky "Really?" at the end was overboard for me. I guess I think of William as someone with quiet, under-stated confidence in himself, so those adorkable moments play slightly out of character for me. In my head canon, the ep ends with Julia scoring a couple of those tiny wooden drawing models and William discovering them doing naughty things in their future domicile. 5) Glad William had a chance to get out of his suit! Whether his pants were too modern or not, William still looks hot in a vest! I wonder if he ever takes Julia camping (re: the Dinosaur fantasy). Did anyone else wonder if Yannick was wearing some sort of guy-girdle when he was examining Singer's body? He seemed to be a bit constrained while speaking when he was looking over the body, and then relieved to be standing up again. Perhaps the big suits can be explained by Yannick's reluctance to do the anorexic actor thing at this stage in his career. I don't think he has to worry: I interpret any increased girth as consequences of a satisfying marriage. I'm sure his sexiest part is still his tummy. (as Yannick proclaimed in an interview a couple of years ago). I'm really looking forward to all the trouble Ms. Pink is going to make!

The gold cache was the same as the body dump in Murdoch au Natural, and the cave belonged to Hardluck Thompson from the Klondike. Where is it? I thought that cave looked familiar. Was this also where William got shot in All That Glitters?

Did anyone notice that the place William and Freddie were shot at was the same place William was shot in All That Glitters?http://murdochmysteriesfans.proboards.com/post/new/1354 lol, yep just wondering about that... Omg, now we have the cave/tree stand of Eternal Return. William must invent the time warp at some point. Or perhaps he invents the whole Rocky Horror Picture Show. (Inspired by his dream of Cabaret Julia).

This s gonna be good!
Loved Julia struggling to not be jealous of a woman from William's past...Freddie was only a girl at the time but I think Julia's issue was that William had never mentioned her. I'm taking this back. After rewatching I don't think there was any jealousy, just concern. We never do see her reaction to the news that Freddie is also going to Algonquin Park. I was quite surprised that Julia didn't insist on going along. William was one of the potential targets, after all. No coroner needed? She didn't seem worried at all in William's absence, even though a murderer might be after him. Maybe she trusted Freddie to keep him safe...?

Just watched this, and I don't want to spoil it for those of you who have not yet seen it: but I love the end!! I enjoyed it, but it didn't engage me as much as others this season..........however, yes, the end was intriguing.......I thought for sure one thing would be mentioned and was so glad it wasn't..... You thought the Local Option was better than this one? IMHO, this was one of the best of the season. In general, the episodes have been better than Season 8, but they still drag a bit. This episode had a lot of feeling of the early days of MM. What wasn't mentioned?

Yes, William and Freddie stand in front of a cave after they get shot at in the woods. It might also be the cave the soldier was staying in for Murdoch Au Natural since lovemondays brought that up...

There was something lacklustre about the storyline even though I enjoyed the scenery and the Julia storyline, plus the end. I found this ep less predictable than others, which is perhaps one of the reasons I liked it more. Also, other than the device of George knowing about that particular gold robbery, I didn't feel like this ep involved much of an inexplicable deus ex machina. On the other hand, it could be explained after the fact - unlike Double Life, which seemed to be missing a crucial scene. Other eps have seemed inexplicable as well - like how the murderer moved the electroplated bodies in Barenaked Ladies. I vaguely remember there being something amiss with the plot in Marked Twain, too...? Normally I hate watching a Kids ep, but all was forgiven the minute William started pulling the investigative gear out of his Infinite Pockets. It could be you are just overly familiar with the MM plot formula at this point, so you're able to guess the murderer every time!

True, considering she didn't like him getting hit over the head with a pipe and nearly dying a few months back. I was also quite surprised William was gonna go himself...not even take George or a gun or anything. NOW who's being reckless? Which just makes him lecturing Freddie about being reckless that much more nonsensical.
