I'm not particularly bothered by the unanswered gold question in the Summer of '75, it's just something I've been left to wonder about. It didn't detract from the episode for me and IMO it was a solid story. I thought we'd had enough explanation in Barenaked Ladies that I wasn't left wondering about how the crime was committed. The only thing that episode left me questioning about was why Julia had quit the Asylum, and now I'm wondering if there was an explanation edited out of the episode. Maybe Evilpete can give us the answer to that and the gold, lol. Hopefully we'll get a full explanation on Rebecca's background. Other posters are correct that we never had Emily's background really delved into. I was always so curious about her family. The problem of important details being left out could be remedied by webisodes. Perhaps novelizations of the TV Murdoch will be coming one day as well.

Other posters are correct that we never had Emily's background really delved into. I was always so curious about her family. I have to admit that I didn't think Barenaked Ladies had a plot hole. I couldn't understand why people thought Ginny couldn't pull this off. As for not being strong enough to move the bodies I think people were underestimating what a woman can do when she puts her mind to it. For Double Life I assumed the husband had killed the PI so no plot hole for me. Sometimes you just have to use your imagination if something isn't put in front of you. I admit I didn't think of this until after the show but it was an afterthought not something that bothered me. As for Julia quitting the asylum to work in the morgue, her husband wanted her to and she likes working closely with him, she has more opportunity to do that in the morgue and she can still use her psychiatric expertise to help in the investigations. Best of both....

I probably shouldn't get involved in this 'plot hole war' going on about recent episodes...but I just wanna say that there have ALWAYS been plot holes in this show. I think we're just dissecting the episodes far more than we used to. Like, I re-watched Houdini Whodunnit (in my mind a 'perfect' ep) yesterday for like the seventh time and remembered it too had one. Mr. Simms (the bank manager) supposedly reeked of tobacco too even though he wasn't a heavy smoker. This is how they clued into nicotine as being the poison.
BUT nicotine itself doesn't possess much, if any odour...so he shouldn't have stunk to high heaven...unless he was lying about only partaking on the weekends...but there was no reason for him to do so.
Even knowing this, I'll still always enjoy this ep (minus the guest actors irritating voice)...so I suppose I'm in the camp of, yes, it annoys me when I notice something that doesn't seem to add up, but I'm not going to forsake the show for it. I'm sure compared to other shows, MM's 'sins', are few and far between.
Also, I'm amused by how quickly off topic this thread has become.

I probably shouldn't get involved in this 'plot hole war'...o I suppose I'm in the camp of, yes, it annoys me when I notice something that doesn't seem to add up, but I'm not going to forsake the show... Just to clarify, there is NO camp, as far as I'm aware, that advocates for people to stop watching MM over plot holes or any other reason. In my memory, the only threats about quitting the show that have been bandied about were over the suspicion that the writers were gearing up to kill off Julia: and I was calling for "wait and see" at the time. The dispute in this thread is merely over whether its okay for one forum member to advise another to take a hike if they aren't criticizing the same things. That's a personal dispute rather than something that relates directly to anything happening on MM. As no one seems to be telling anyone to go watch something else at the moment, I consider the dispute over. There's just some time lag involved in people discovering the thread and indulging in a little:"Fight! Fight! Fight!"

**Holds up his umbrella to shield himself against the shitstorm** Wow!! This thread is like Jerry Springer! At the risk of getting blasted I agree about the storm but see this not about concern with our beloved show but a collective reaction to recent events. Irritation and frustration with things are showing up everywhere. I am going on record here as saying I appreciate this show and even if there are aspects I don't like I will not consider telling the writers and creators what to do. That would be like going to a concert and telling the organizers to change the temperature of the room because I am uncomfortable. What!?!?!?

So I was going to put this in a separate post but I think this thread needs a smile.
Happy Thanksgiving from Oklahoma. I wanted to add a cute picture but don't know how LOL.

I totally agree with you about ordering the writers around: fans tend to kill the show when they exert pressure - it becomes boring. That said, everyone here speculates about MM. In fact, a few people came here to escape Facebook, where there is enormous peer pressure just to fawn over things.

I leave for a few days and come back to this?! Lol. In regards to the original post- I like Rebecca. I'm hoping that she was some type of spy against the government and got exiled from the US. Convenient that she over steps her bounds on an episode with Clegg & Meyers. Idk.

Been part of a special advancement programme? Been a child of staff in an affluent person's house? Been an employee of said affluent person herself? Been an illegitimate child of a wealthy family? There are a whole host of reasons she could have been singled out to be sent to a college or university.

Happy Thanksgiving to you! Us Canucks had our Turkey day long ago, but we are certainly aware of your holiday. Too bad it seems to get overshadowed by Black Friday. In any case I hope you and all the Americans on this board had a great day.

For what it's worth, I like Rebecca James: as I said somewhere else she has just the right balance of restraint and forthrightness. She is being well played by the actress and I enjoy her scenes.

I like her as well......I also like how they seem to be gradually feeding background out on her as well........there is a lot of potential in what they can explore through her character....
