OMG!! The baby carriage on the steps was taken from The Untouchables: still a heart stopping scene. Adopting!! This should be interesting! They will have to have a nanny. And a bigger hotel suite until the house is built. What a great episode! The Untouchables was a good movie and TV series: that might have offered some atmospheric models for MM. The Untouchables also had a great, serious arch-nemesis!

That would be hilarious! "Roland dear stop playing with mommy's scalpels" "Roland! The weaponized capatciter is not a toy!" "Roland, stay out of Uncle Thomas' Scotch!" Nitpick: how did the guy smuggle in distilled-water ice and keep it from melting before he did the crime? Also, wasn't the loan clerk away when William arrived at the bank? Shouldn't the robber guy be talking to him first before being left alone in the office for whatever reason? Also, there's no guarantee he would have gotten into the office at the right time - what if William had been ushered in first? This reminds me a bit of the Prohibition episode in that a lot of things had to go exactly right. I feel for Julia - introduced to the world of staying up all night to feed baby...

I wouldn't get too upset just yet. PM said there's a really sad episode to come so I suspect one way or another they don't end up with the baby. I kind of hope this is true. (Don't kill me!) That baby was way too smiley!!! The hotel suite seems way too small for the three of them. Having just watched this ep again I've realized everyone is assuming the two bank robbers are the baby's parents. What if they're not or at least what if one of them isn't? There's the possibility that a relative turns up.

I understood the loan clerk was occupied with another client (the robber) when William arrived. I think I remember seeing them in the office when W and the bank manager went downstairs. But I've only seen the ep once in the wee hours of the morning, so might remember wrong.

**Comes running in, late as usual!!**
I loved this episode! It was so much fun! It was different and interesting and I just loved everything about it. I'm not sure if we were fully explained how the robbery was carried out, though?? That's the only thing. Apart from that, I liked it.
The ending sounds like a lot of fun. Although I think now they're going to need a nanny. And maybe that brings all other sorts of plot-lines!! Ooooooh!!

This was a great episode. I liked how the robbery mystery tied in with Murdoch and Julia adopting the baby.

Can someone please explain this to me?
Braxton and Missus think up baby day. They make fake memos and send them to the bank for the baby day and the chairs. Boom.
They go in. Babies everywhere. Braxton goes downstairs. At a preset time, Missus blows the whistle and Braxton opens the vault. The alarm goes off and is drowned out by the babies. Braxton slips paper into the alarm to silence it. Regardless, triggering the alarm locks the doors.
He opens the safe, steals the plates and puts them in his briefcase. He steals the money and hides it in the vent.
He puts the iceblock into the alarm mechanism and then sneaks out, locks the vault and heads upstairs.
He has a tete-a-tete with the loan clerk. The ice melts. The alarm goes off...again...everyone goes nuts...the moment the Loan Clerk's office is empty, Braxton tips the chair over, hides the plates inside and gets out of the bank scott free. Had things gone to plan, he goes back later, his wife creates another distraction, and Braxton steals the plates and they run off.
Fine.
WHERE THE HELL DOES HE GET THE ICE??

Fine. WHERE THE HELL DOES HE GET THE ICE?? I asked the same question. It's a glitch, but not quite a plot hole because there's probably an elaborate story that would cover it (i.e. it's not impossible). I did feel the crime was so complex that it started to seem untenable - much like the prohibition episode. There seemed to be a lot of luck involved in the variables, so it started to seem like a rube goldberg machine rather than a plan.

This was a great episode. I liked how the robbery mystery tied in with Murdoch and Julia adopting the baby. I'm starting to think PM, or someone on the MM team, has an interesting strategy to deal with the pressures of fan projection. When fans project a narrative that ends with marriage, PM took the plunge to do the marriage and went on with the show. I.e., he prevented the overarching narrative of the show from having a natural ending in marriage, which would have been annoying if seasons continued to go by while William and Julia find increasingly improbably reasons to dally. Now that the marriage is out of the way, fans have started to project the baby as the end of the show. This creates a distortion in the narrative if MM continues for several seasons and William and Julia keep encountering increasingly artificial articles for proceeding toward that end. However, PM short-circuited that process by doing the baby NOW, and then getting on with the show. Perhaps the effect of resetting the MM narrative to "open ended" wasn't intentional, but this is the effect, and I think it's a brilliant thing to do. This frees the writers from fan pressures, while fans get a beloved SS of the Murdoch family with world's happiest baby.

Where does the morgue get its ice?
There was a large industry harvesting ice from Lake Simcoe (about 80 km north of Toronto) in the winter, storing it and transporting it to the City for all the ice boxes used in the summer months. Murdoch did specify that the ice would have to be distilled water, but I'm sure there would have to be suppliers of such for scientific purposes......
I loved this episode......not sure how I feel about the baby, but let's see where they take us with it.........

Finally got to watch the episode and I enjoyed it! I'm also skeptical of a child but who knows what could happen.

I'm well aware of the history of ice harvesting. I have studied 19th century ice manufacture and harvesting and ancient chilling methods. That's not what I'm asking about. My question is - how the hell did he get the ice into the bank? How did he get a piece small enough to do what he want, and not stop it melting before he put it into the alarm mechanism? What? Did it have it in a tiny little freezer in his pocket or what? That's what I don't understand.

Depending on how far he'd have to travel to the bank, he could have had it wrapped in some sort of material to insulate it, then waterproofing, like oilcloth. Plain newspaper would do the trick if it wasn't for a prolonged period. Given how everyone was dressed, the episode didn't take place in the height of summer, so ice wouldn't melt that fast. There also wasn't that long a time lapse between when he put the ice in to when the alarm sounded the second time, so he wouldn't have needed that much.
