I also chose This One Goes to Eleven. It introduces the Pendricks, and I really enjoyed the case Murdoch had to solve.

I liked 'The Murdoch Identity". It's such an awesome episode. Cross-Atlantic policework. I think it really showed just how much technology had changed crimefighting.

Futur imperfect for me because Ruby was back and I love the interaction between the 2 sisters. Ruby tries to behave like she was the same age or older than Julia, its funny. I also like the scene at the morgue between William and Julia when they were talking about the cut arm and then they had a discussion about the Eugenic societey and about breeding the best with the best and Julia got very flirtatious with William. She is such a flirt, with William anyway! and the way he responds to her in that occasion is brilliant and very sensual. I would love to see more scenes like that when they are very comfy with each other and the seduction is at its prime. Its great to see from time to time

there was such a cool idea surrounding this ep and then there was the big reveal with Sally being the mastermind all along! And of course the ending was very poignant. At the time i first watched it, i thought it was the worst ending ever. but after my emotions weren't as high the second time and i knew what happened in later seasons, it doesn't make me want to tear out my hair anymore. xD

This season was the one where the show really came into it's own in my opinion - so many really good episodes to choose from. As much as I enjoyed Murdoch Identity, The Great Wall, the episodes with the Pendricks, I had to choose Love and Human Remains. Great story (I felt so bad for those kids) with some amazing performances.

Just re-watched all of season 3 so I thought I'd come vote! I went with the Murdoch Identity. It's got a bit of everything Still one of my faves of all time! In my view the most interesting thing about this episode is it shows what William would be like or wants to be if he could drop all the onion layers of Catholic School, Civil Servitude, and Victorian Repression that have built up over the years. I read a really good review when I first started watching MM that pointed out that William gets stuff done as a normal man. He's the opposite of American TV protagonists who are often out-sized, swaggering, over-confident, over-sexed, bullies who would probably be diagnosed as sociopaths in real life. William is simply capable, very well-read and inclined toward DIY projects. However, The Murdoch Identity shows William probably read a lot of adventure stories as a boy, and he still has heroic fantasies of himself. He tells Anna he "hopes" he isn't an accountant: he doesn't want his life to be sucked away by something so trivial. Running from the bad guys has got his adrenaline up, and then he gets the chance to save Queen Victoria herself! It must have been almost disappointing to remember the constraints of his real life. In Jilliam terms, this ep is used for the not-a-virgin argument because William seems to be remembering Julia in lingerie. This episode is also great for viewers who love angst since Julia is terrified for William's safety - and the situation is resolved by their first to-hell-with-propriety public kiss in the end.

TMI is absolutely one of my favourite eps of S3. As you say we see the William that lies underneath all those layers that he's built up and I suspect it's what Julia knows is underneath. I've always wondered what she saw in such a stuffy bloke, other than his looks and mind, unless she'd had a glimpse of who he really is. I have to admit I'm rethinking my virgin!William ideas recently because of the scenes where he remembers Julia in her underwear. As someone said, was it lea(?), when he's remembering things the scene has a red tinge (blue when he's imagining it); I've been taking notice recently and it's consistent. This means that William was there with Julia in her underwear. I can only think of one reason she'd be in her underwear outdoors with William.... I have to admit to loving The Great Wall. There is just something about this ep. I LOVE William in it, he's so vulnerable and once again his 'truth at any cost' leads him into potential trouble. We also see that he's not afraid to mix it up with the other guys when he feels affronted. Season 3 has to be one of the best seasons of the entire series.

I didn't realize until after the episode was over and didn't go back to check it out. I'm not sure if that's the case outside of season 3 either.. still watching for it though

I like the Great Wall, but it also made me worry about what Julia was getting: William seemed extremely fragile and almost boyish about needing to "fit in". Perhaps this is my American point of view: we all want to see our coworkers as surrogate family, but its not since you are hired for a job and can be fired at any time. During Victorian times, white collar work was extremely tenuous. While civil service was the first "stable" bureacratic work, William's job has been threatened on numerous occasions. He shouldn't be relying on his coworkers to rebuild his family. Anyway, The Great Wall is another ep which makes me think William is a bit in need of a Nurse Nightengale even though he pushes for the truth and risks the surrogate family he's created. As for Julia getting a crush on the "stuffy bloke", I've always thought she was equally needy. She reached her 30s pursuing her professional career. Suddenly she was a spinster and on the cusp of never being able to get married - and there was this handsome and intelligent detective in her vicinity. Her other dates were boring. Something in her obviously likes the Nurse Nightengale thing, too. We've noted a lot how she will put herself in William's world: she was husband-hunting at that point.

I'm not so sure Julia was husband hunting. I think she was fine being an independent woman of means. It just so happened that this good looking, intelligent guy happened by and she couldn't help herself. I think the only reason she married Darcy was to make herself unavailable to William, not because she needed a husband.

Found it.. It's the episode Hangman. He has a flashback to the woman who called George Huckleberry in blue. I thought that was him imagining the woman on the stand at the trial. He wouldn't have been there. He also flashes back to when they were in her room after they pull her out of the chest and she calls George Huckleberry.
