I would still prefer quality over quantity.

I would still prefer quality over quantity. Me too. I never had an issue with the amount of episodes in the past. I wouldn't be upset if S8 was less than 18.

I am sure they have already started major work on the story lines for next season. Even so if they deemed it necessary I would wait until later than September. A smart move would be playing lots of reruns in the meantime. They must know this is a pretty critical time for the show and that they have to think out the next moves very carefully. Now it's time for us fans to speculate !

I would still prefer quality over quantity. I also prefer quality over quantity. The point I was trying to make about the number of episodes is that "8 seasons" sounds like a long time for a show to run, but Murdoch Mysteries has been half as long as American seasons: I doubt anyone would say a show had "run its course" after 4 seasons in the US. However, if MM started running 2 seasons per year (one in the Spring, one in the Fall), then the seasons and overall run could be compared to American shows.

One thing I noted in last week's episode "Blast of Silence" is how badly everyone was treating Henry. George and the other constables were making fun of him to his face and behind his back and Emily treated him shabbily, at best. I don't know if that is considered "bullying" but I just hope it doesn't escalate. Even Murdoch was particularly abrupt/ rude when he told Henry to "...get away from there" when he found him in his office looking at the "debris" which Henry quickly identified as piano parts. I like Henry and hope gets a "voice" soon or at least gets a chance to prove his true worth to the others. They never took George too seriously either (remember bugalugs?) until the last year or so, but even then I don't think people were so rude and dismissive of him because they recognized his enthusiasm. Hoping Henry gets a better S8 !

Agreed! Maybe they are still mad because of the mess ups in a Midnight Train to Kingston. Or just that everyone seems to be on edge. Taking it out on Henry is not fair though. I would like to see more of this character.

I too like Henry. He WAS being picked on in last weeks episode but he also got a big nod from Murdoch for being able to identify the bomb pieces as piano parts. When he was seriously injured by the bomb in War on Terror, there was a great deal of tenderness and concern directed toward him. As a character Henry still needs to come into his own. He is great as George's sidekick but he has a lot to learn as a policeman. I thought the best part about this episode was the trailer for tonight's show!!! Can't wait.

I don't know how many times I've seen that trailer --even just today! and I only watched TV for about 30 min this afternoon! I agree that they treated Henry with great care when he was injured a while back but they seemed to be laying it on pretty heavy last week and I just hope that was not for any particular reason. George is being taken a bit more seriously now so hopefully Henry is simply being positioned as the next one to have to earn his stripes in the stationhouse. not long now....!

I regard this as a deliberate move to gain sympathy for Henry, which may portend a bigger role for him in the future. I wonder if they actually were testing out Henry/Emily chemistry? (I hope not) The best part about everyone putting down George in the early seasons was George frequently proved everyone wrong. One of my favorite George moments is in Buffalo Shuffle where George makes no bones about being better at photography than William. George may make fun of Henry, but when the time came for George to step up as an acting detective, he chose Henry as his protege. In a way I think those kind of putdowns are a way men challenge each other to do better and earn respect.

I was getting worried that they were setting us up for something awful to happen to Henry in the finale and everyone would feel bad after the fact. Have you seen the finale yet Snacky? I won't get into details if you haven't. All I'l say is--I was wrong in my thinking. Which is good for Henry, I like Henry.

In hindsight, I wonder if the writers weren't toying with a cliffhanger about Henry since they went through so much trouble to give him some attention. I'm glad they went with Brackenreid, though. I don't have all that much invested in Henry yet. I think Henry will get more of the comedy so the writers can attempt to make George more viable for a romantic storyline.

When does S8 start filming? Yannick said he's directing starting May 16 and he usually does the first one they film.
