It was a very atmospheric episode. I liked that. Both creepy and interesting. Though if you hadn't watched the web series from last season we'd be lost about who Bates was. His ending serves him right. George and Emily are awful. I swear they're getting less chemistry as time goes on. They're really trying to sell them as cute and romantic but it's not working. At least for me. I find them downright cringy in their scenes. I like Gemily and Dr Grace.

Eh, I don't mind the Gemily scenes , just as long as the scene is nice and short. But there's too much teasing and not enough romance in Jilliam.
Yea, I agree...a little bit of background into who Dr.Bates is would have been better for those who didn't do the interactive webstuff. I wasn't too pleased with the ending through, I thought he would be the perfect type to become a recurring villain , when J.Gillies finally dies (hopefully from a push from Julia ---not that she's actually vicious enough to actually directly cause his death)
Can't wait for the next episode !

I like Higgin's. I wish he'd get his own storyline.
As for G/E, you are free to voice your opinions and like them. But they're aren't a popular pairing in general. I don't dislike Emily, I've grown to be fond of her. While William and Julia are my top characters, I am equally fond of the other three. And of Higgin's. It's lucky for me I enjoy watching them all. I just don't enjoy G/E scenes because they have zero chemistry and it's laid on too thickly, especially this series. The writers shouldn't need to push the audience into liking a couple, they are trying that here. It doesn't work for me or apparently a lot of other viewers. They feel like filler material.

I do agree with you Murdochic, I think the main reason is that Emily was forced upon us in season 5 as the new coroner (it was already quite a liberty for the show to have one female coroner in Julia at that period so to have another one and that young was pushing the envelope a bit too much for my taste). I'm warming up to Emily but I'm not invested in her so I don't really care if she's in a scene or not. As for the George/Emily's "relationship" in my opinion it has been pushed on us since the 1st episode of season 5 and recreating a "constable/doctor" dynamic was just a choice too obvious that I don't really buy it. I'm not saying that the writers have taken the easy road in that storyline considering that producing season 5 must have been a bit chaotic with the spectrum of being cancelled. I think Emily was introduced when the show was supposed to last only one more season for George to get his own happy ending for the finale of season 5, that is why I have no attachment to them as a couple but if people like them then good ...for me I don't care enough...However I'm a bit ticked off when they have more storyline then William & Julia in an episode....I hope it will be reversed soon.

That's what I mean by G/E being filler material. With S7 being 18 episodes the writers are stalling W/J because they don't want them to be a full-on couple yet, that will come later in the season. But in the meantime they feel they need a more active romance and that is why G/E is being thrown at our heads in most episodes. But even there the writers are stalling and skipping any romance completely some episode and then making them so sickly in others. They haven't actually moved on from what they were near the end of S5 which is a bit ridiculous. Either have them dating or drop the storyline. If we have to watch them, make it believable.
Though I don't need G/E to fill in for W/J while they're in this relationship limbo. I'd be happy enough with the odd flirting/emotional scene for them in the meantime. Plus it doesn't help that G/E just don't gel as a romance whereas you could understand why W/J did and do. George actually comes off a bit annoying around Emily in 'relationship' scenes. In this episode I was left thinking 'why are you looking at her like a mooning cow, George when you're at a murder scene?'. That was some bad acting and writing.

lol a mooning cow, not sure i've ever heard that one before! xD but yeah, totally agree with what you two are saying. i might be wrong but i think it's mostly the younger girls who don't have any issues with them.

That was my point though Murdochic. OldER people tend to have better taste and know what is and isn't believable. You'll notice that I say OldER and not old, which are vastly different things. I've learned my lesson enough times with OldER people to know not to call them old. So no, I wasn't calling you two (and myself) old!

I accept the compliment on having better taste Though I'm not sure many viewers of any age can say G/E are well written. Because in all honesty they're not. I can see why some will still find them cute, as chemistry is subjective. And some viewers don't like W/J, so we all have different tastes. It's just a matter of believability. One couple is and the other isn't. If MM want to continue G/E they need to step up their game. Less sickly scenes and give more reasons why they actually want each other. It always seems more like friendship to me than a red hot romance. A few sickly scenes doesn't build a romance.

I've been reading some comments on Facebook; these comments state that their respective owners did not enjoy this week's episode, as it was 'too goofy'. Goofy? I don't think so. If any episode of season seven thus far was 'too goofy', it was 'The Filmed Adventures of Detective William Murdoch'. That received an outpouring of love, but it is this episode that people are questioning. I.... don't get it- but whatever. Opinions are different. I didn't find this episode goofy; my faults with it were that it was a.)too predictable, and b.)there was a lack of Jilliam. It's a given that we have superior taste. ;D I liked that scene; it was cute. William needs to loosen up his tie, a lot. xD

To add to this rather amusing conversation, I have noticed that different websites tend to bolster- loosely- the same sort of opinions. As Murdochic said, the majority of us on here seem not to be gigantic fans of E/G. I try to stick with this website, and occasionally Twitter, as Facebook tends to irritate me. I often see the same questions, repeated over and over... "how can we see Murdoch Mysteries in the states", "when is the season six dvd coming out", ect. Opinions on there can be very harsh, and the frequent misspelling of Murdoch (as Murdock) gets under my skin. I won't even begin on the imdb boards. Against my better judgement, I browsed there just moments ago... I read several posts about how terribly written and executed Jilliam has been since season one... but that the writers have proved they can write great romance with George and Emily. O-O
Annyways, my post got very quickly off topic. I'm not old, and I don't much like Gemily. Yay! The 'mooning cow' bit of Murdochic's post made me laugh. Let's have no more mooning cows on this show!

Let's have no more mooning cows on this show! FB drives me a tad nuts too, for the reasons you have stated, but I like to check in to see what tid bits the MM team has posted for us fans. Plus it's always a stress relief to get on your high horse every now and then, LOL. And re G/E, I like them but am not overly invested in them. I see their interactions as just light fluff, but cute. I find Emily's enthusiasm and the way it irritates Murdoch hysterical though. I get far more irritated with bad plot/character construction and stories that have gapping holes in them and are too easily solved e.g. The Filmed Adventures. This has been a nice procrastination interlude. I should be writing school reports….UGH! Back to it.
