I made a bet about it. When I sat down, I was like, "ten bucks he's going to make a move on Murdoch." My friend's response was that I should seek professional help. People keep talking about it on tumblr and now I'm strangely okay with it. We'll have a gif set by the 'morn. But come on, surely he died? I mean, like Brax says, he's a man, not a magician. I'll be happy if the first line of the episode after the break is 'Sir, Gillies' body has been found..." though I will be a tad disappointed. I wanted to see it. He was a decent villain and decent villains don't deserve to die off screen. The word villain just got autocorrected to 'Gillian.' Coincidence? Yeah, probably.

All I can say is ugh. That pretty much sums up my entire feelings about this episode. I did laugh hysterically at the end because it's exactly what I predicted would happen. And I don't just mean him escaping again. What didn't you like about the ep, save the ending? The bumbling constables especially Slugger Dumbass really annoyed me. But it probably did for everyone. The contrived plot to have him on a train for 4 hours. If they were worried about the hangman being bribed, use a different and closer one! The fact that after everything Gillies has done, they never bothered to keep better tabs on who he is in contact with? I mean, the woman he promised a better life to, where exactly did he meet her if he was in solitary the whole time? Isn't everything logged? What did he do? Bribe all the guards to not mention any visitors? Or did he somehow use a secondary party, like his lawyer to get a hold of some desperate woman? It has to be the latter option I guess since I don't think solitary prisoners even are allowed to have visitors. Actually, I think I just explained this to myself.

Please. Even Henry was hella annoying this ep. They're all morons, is what I summed up from the episode.
Yeah, that bugged me a bit too.
Lol, I read through that paragraph with some amusement. You totally answered your own questions. I admit, I never thought about that, but you're right- I don't believe solitary prisoners are allowed to have visitors, save lawyers. His lawyer must have done absolutely everything for him, under Gillies' direction. Shouldn't Murdoch have foreseen this, though? I mean, he should have been overly cautious, considering he knew well what kind of a man Gillies is. For all their precautions, they left many a loopholes.
Henry's mistake made no sense in my mind. Henry's not dumb, as later proved. They should have given the line to Jackson.

You'd think that considering Murdoch dislocated his shoulder and was knocked out but I'm almost certain he's not dead. Like you say, they wouldn't kill him off screen.

But then I'm still right in my annoyance cuz surely Murdoch should have thought to keep tabs on the lawyer! I don't know. Maybe somehow mentioning the hanging, resulted in the water closet scene and was a way for him to get revenge on George for spending so much time with Emily?

The boys of station house four weren't the brightest crayons in the box this episode, I must say. Henry would upset and disturb everyone on the train, get himself into deep trouble, possibly risk the whole operation, just to give George the awkward task of helping James Gillies relieve himself- due to his time spent with a girl? That's completely evil. I like it. But I doubt it, because Henry's gay. His interest in Emily is just a cover.

This episode was okay. But far too predictable. The moment I saw Gillies and the whole "dastardly plan" thing, I knew that it was going to end up with Gillies escaping again. It's so obvious because it's what's happened in every other damn episode he's been in.
I bet you this won't be the last we've seen of it. As I said in an earlier post several months ago, if they do the whole "Gillies Escapes" thing again, I wouldn't be happy. And I'm not happy. I'm not happy because it's too predictable. It's too obvious.
I half-hoped that Gillies might trip on the tracks, get his handcuffs caught on a railroad-tie and get cleared off by a locomotive at high speed, but instead, he jumps off.
I bet this won't be the last we see of him.

I wasn't sure I wanted to comment after watching this episode but then again I think it is good to share what is our opinion regarding what we saw. It was definitely a very intense episode that kept me wondering and on edge not knowing from where and when the danger will come from so for that congratulations to everyone involved in it. It was obvious for me from the beginning that this woman was not to be trusted but what I didn't expect was so many former prisoners being in this train and part of Gillies' plot to escape. I did adore Julia & Gillies' confrontation it was very intense and both actors gave a wonderful performance. However I'm sorry to say that during the whole episode, the constables looked a bit ridiculous, I mean here is a dangerous psychopath that you have to pay close attention to and they leave him from time to time with only 1 person (who plays card and don't see a kid behind him); Higgins mentioning out loud that someone who's to be hanged is on the train ...all of this didn't look very serious to me. I was shocked by the William & Gillies' kiss (didn't expect it but think it was not necessary to take that road) and even more shocked when William jumped from the bridge...But then the end of the episode arrived and I feel almost the same as after "The Murdoch Trap" all that tension is being deflated and again I am left with being frustrated by the lack of closure. It is only personal but I don't understand why some stories have to be dragged that way; after a while (we are in season 7 after all), the angst starts to be overrated and we are left with lassitude and discontent...first the William & Julia's romance that finally looked like it was on the right track but now with Gillies "probably" dead you have to wonder if they will ever be truly happy or even safe and Gillies who keeps coming back over and over and over again....If there's another episode with him I won't look forward to it...that story has run its course imo.... I'm glad that we have more episodes to come though and will be curious to see how the characters will move on from that experience.

I don't think we've ever seen William or Julia hate someone as much as they do Gillies. Understandable of course. Julia is obviously traumatized by all the things he's done to her. And he's still going to do more. Poor Julia. Obviously he isn't dead. And I have no doubt she and William will continue to survive whatever is done to them. I just wish they wouldn't keep recycling that plot. Kill him off.
The Gillies kiss was a bit random lol
I love how Julia and even Emily can kick guys butts when they need to. They're no damsel's in distress most of the time. The writers using Julia as a stand-in for Emily for certain times is a good idea. It gives her more to do. I have to admit I didn't miss Emily in this episode, her absence wasn't felt.
Lol Higgins with big mouth and crafty ways. Nice for him to get more scenes. He doesn't get enough.
I knew that woman and kid were in on it. And the guys. Still a suspenseful episode though which makes up for it being a bit obvious.
