1. I do appreciate their foreshadowing with the O'Shay's in this ep! Future planning in a show is always really nice and part of what makes MM great. 2. I had not re-watched this episode until now and I don't know why! There are a ton of gems. I hadn't noticed William bobbing to the music in the past. 3. Ohh William was definitely observing Emily & Leslie and gathering information in case he needed it for George. 4. William had such a determined look on his face when he went in for that third kiss  5. Emily has quite the cheek going and playing the piano with Leslie while George was there. I'm so glad George went and found someone else. |

This was the first episode I saw and loved it, I was hooked before it ended. Of course I've since found out it isn't the best ep but it is a good one and I still really enjoy it every time I see it. I only recently noticed William counting the beat of the music, he was really into it. This was when I started disliking Emily but I never really saw much in the relationship with George. I do see where he would have been attracted to her but I could never see what she'd see in him. I wonder if William and Julia will start indulging in more modern entertainment venues? Of course, unlike Emily, William probably feels legally obliged to stay away from the "blind pigs". |

My George moment was him holding the baby and letting her suck on his finger lol. Who knew George would be so good with babies! And I thought it very open minded of William to appreciate the frankly scandalous dancing he was watching. Julia was of course in her modern element - William, not quite so much.

My George moment was him holding the baby and letting her suck on his finger lol. Who knew George would be so good with babies! And I thought it very open minded of William to appreciate the frankly scandalous dancing he was watching. Julia was of course in her modern element - William, not quite so much. I've just rewatched this ep. The music is intoxicating! It is what I love most about it. Recently I read a post from someone who was upset with George at the end because he obviously had feelings for Emily but 'let' Leslie Garland move in on her. Honestly, I can't remember where I read that, whether here or on MMAS but I do have a response.
George is a very complex character, particularly were women are concerned. He was raised by a group of prostitutes who taught him to respect women; he thinks of himself as just an average man (a good one, but average nonetheless); and he still sees Emily as being 'above his station'. There is a lot of conflict with him. Contrast his behaviour here with Emily with his somewhat domineering behavior with Nina. I think it comes down to where George ranks himself in the social order with 'his girl'. So who is the real George? IMO, we saw the "real" George when he was with Edna. She was his social and intellectual equal from his perspective. He was protective without being overbearing, and he had a genuine sense of responsibility for Edna and Simon's well being. This is when I liked him best. With Emily he always seemed a little defensive as far as the romance...they were best together as buddies.

I have to admit that George in his sillier moments drives me nuts, just too far out for me, I liked the more mature George. |

I too agree with you LM on all counts, but I differ with Hodge in that no matter how silly he is, I think George is just being himself: imaginative, and able to think outside the box. I too agree with you LM on all counts, but I differ with Hodge in that no matter how silly he is, I think George is just being himself: imaginative, and able to think outside the box. Edna seemed to understand that, and even asked him to help her with a slogan for fresh bread, knowing he would come up with something great. But George wasn't silly with Edna, he was imaginative and I don't mind that side of him but some of the really silly stuff just turns me off. |
