I think I'll be dead in 2914. Any chance I could download it while I'm in my coffin?
The word "Ragtime" got its name from the bouncy, "ragged" style of piano-playing in the late 1800s. Sadly, Ragtime was a rather short-lived musical genre. It lasted from about the 1880s until about 1910. By the time of the First World War, Jazz was slowly replacing ragtime, and the war meant that people weren't interested in happy bouncy music anymore. It didn't suit the mood of the era.
In fact, when Scott Joplin, the most famous ragtime composer of all, died in 1917, his death didn't even make the front page.

Lol first Shangas and very interesting regarding the ragtime. I'm actually happy we get a new episode soon, I need something fresh after the disappointment of the last one, only 8 more days now

Poor George. Actually, I'm fine with the Emily/Leslie thing. That way, George can go find someone else.
Murdoch looked extremely hot in his suit. Just sayin'.
Julia definitely seemed happier during this ep. Still not certain on Gillies' demise, though.

Now I want her to go off with him so that George can find someone who actually appreciates him. Like Tess! Yeah and all the sexy bare legs probably didn't help matters. I doubt they had air conditioning in that club. It was so delightful to see them happy together again! I'm afraid it's not going to last cuz Gillies is obviously coming back one more time. In the meantime, bring on the smooches! Anyway, this ep was decent, not perfection by a long shot but it was an enjoyable experience and worth a laugh or two. Dancing around a corpse? For serious?

I am wondering what the writers have up their sleeves as far as Gillies. There still is no body, therefore no certainty. Finally Julia and William get an uninterrupted kiss!! Looks like the old Brackenreid is back, with his persuasive fists. I found that a little disturbing. I felt very sad for George in the end!! He is pretty fond of Emily, but he doesn't feel worthy of her ( a class thing).

The temperance league got a mention, he got a headache from ragtime almost immediately, went overboard in the interrogation room and we never actually saw him drink anything this ep! I'm not so sure that's the reason. Emily is from the working class too, she just attracts rich individuals. I think George just generally doubts himself around women, like how Murdoch was around Julia for the longest time. And it's no wonder! Emily isn't exactly stepping up to the plate! She's already got one foot out the door and has for awhile! George should just drop her and find Tess again!

Yeah, I don't appreciate the way that Emily's treating George. I haven't really minded them all that much, not since season six, but now Emily's starting to get on my nerves. George is way too sweet to be messed around with, and if she hurts him, my old hatred is going to come back full force. Julia and Murdoch probably won't be happy with Emily, either; George is like their little bro.

The band plays the very appropriate "Maple Leaf Rag", by Scott Joplin, in the bar, when Murdoch & Brackenreid visit there and Murdoch meets Dr. Grace and Leslie Garland. Maple Leaf Rag came out in 1899, so would've been very modern, ca. 1901, when this episode is presumably set.

OMG!!!! OMG!!!! I'm usually not fond of breaks but if we are rewarded like this after each one than I'm more than happy!!!! I'm so glad we've seen William & Julia so at ease, romantic and in love in this episode, the shipper in me is entirely satisfied )) I also thought this episode was visually very well done, a lot of shots during the night mixed with the beautiful voices and upbeat music created a specific atmosphere around the investigation. It is also the first time we've seen Brackenreid "interrogate"/aka "beating up" a suspect for so long which again created a darker feeling. Indeed, we've seen bits and pieces before and know it had happened more than once but it has never been that graphic. Although I was a bit unsettled by it I have to admit it was very well done with the camera angles and the lighting, It heightened the tension and aggressivity of the scene. It was sad to see George like this he deserves to be happy, Emily is definitely not in my good grace right now (pardon the pun), not that I liked her very much before; however considering that I have little to no interest to the Emily/George's relationship maybe creating some troubles for them (which I'm sure won't last) will peak my interest, maybe I forgot to say that seeing again Miss Hamilton was unexpected but very funny. She's so unnerving that I can't help but laugh…good call to bring her back Overall I'm so happy that Murdoch Mysteries is finally back and I'm very optimistic for the second half of this season ))

I'm so glad Murdoch Mysteries is back! Last night's episode was fantastic. A perfect balance of mystery and the character's personal lives. The Jilliam fire is going strong and I can't believe they kissed 3 times! Yay! Haha. As for the developing Emily/Leslie thing, I'm not really liking that. I've always liked Emily, and I don't really want her running off with some Garland fellow...they're trouble, they are. Next thing you know, Leslie will be dead and Emily will be framed. And I feel so bad for George! My heart broke in the final scene. Anyways, great episode! Can't wait for next Monday! But in the mean time, will go edit the wiki!

I know I am! I just love Julia and William when things are going great for them. But the "glass half empty side of me" keeps thinking...Julia and William are smiling and are so happy just being in love......that can't be good.
